Marty's campaign.
-
Elidur clears his throat and talks with the campaigner…
"Well, Marty … village is a lot easier to put into a song than 'caravan'. I hope you don't mind."
He goes back to waving and performing little tricks to keep people entertained.
-
… Actually I never came from a villiage. I was born in a caravan. But a wonderful song non the less!
-
Elidur Ginen shows up at both rallies, piping out his usual repotoir of musical classics, he takes to juggling shouting out;
"Fairer Peltarch, greener fields - vote for Marty, so your kids have three meals!"
Later on he picks up his yarting and seems to compose a song on the spot, plucking out a delicate stream of notes;
~ She came from a village - far away - but now she's in Peltarch she's here to stay - she'll bring back your children if they should stray. Marty is brave and she did slay - the N'Jasti forces when they marched this way - just a simple gard-ner… ~
~ She tends to her flowers - she tends to her friends - her wonderful charity it never ends. Never are her pockets to deep - she'll even try when the well has run dry. Marty is good, and Marty is grand - she'll be as good on the senate as she is for the Land ~
Elidur takes a bow, although he could've gone on and on, he knows the importance of Marty's speeches - and lets her continue her work.

DOUBLE BARRELLED RALLY
// _In the days just before the election, Marty holds two rallies on two separate days, one in the Docks District and one in the in the Residential.
Each rally has its own distinct flavour. The rally in the Docks District is Held around the ruined statue, and see more charitable efforts taking place, such as the giving of a bag of coal to the head of each family that shoes up.
The rally in the residential district is held in fairgrounds and includes a mini joust and other more theatrical forms of entertainment.
Both rallies include Marty’s standard pony rides, face painting, apple bobs and other games.
The rallies are publicised as being a “double barrelled” rally seeing that they are being held so close together, and also because Marty often stands upon a barrel to make her speeches._ //
Dearest Neighbours!
Thankyou all so much for coming out!
On the eve of the election, I wanted to take this final opportunity to speak with you all about your vote. As you all know, each citizen makes two votes – and it has been said that one vote you make with your head and the other with your heart. Now I would expect that most of you will give your “head” vote to the candidate who best represents the guild you work in, or the one who you feel will hand out the most benefits. I would fully support you in this. It is your second vote, your “heart” vote that I hope you will lend to me.
Why am I worthy of your “heart” vote?
Two reasons I pray you will consider:
First, I feel that of all candidates I am the one who you can trust totally. I have no religious agenda, I am not favouring any guild over another, I have never been loyal to any political power apart from Peltarch. I have demonstrated time and again my single minded devotion toward this city and her people; on her streets, amongst her poor, amongst her merchants, on the fields of harvest, and on the field of battle. I’m not sure if my fellow candidates can make such claims. Many have recently purchased citizenship papers … some of them I feel have done so simply so that they may run for a seat. There is even one candidate I know of whose home is still in the south! I am a true daughter of Peltarch, and shall be till I am buried here! Surely our conflict with N’Jast has taught us the lesson well – we don’t need those whose hearts belong to foreign powers sitting on our senate! To be on the senate one must be a citizen, but citizenship is more than just a piece of paper! I have never belonged to another realm and never shall I!
Second, I feel with all my heart that the Senate should belong to the people. I hope you will bear with me as I briefly recount some of our glorious … and not so glorious history.
One of the initial acts of our first and only king was to create the Senate and the first guild - as two totally separate entities. After the death of Tidus it wasn’t long before the second guild arose, and that the lines between the guild and the senate began to blur. It was guild influence over the senate that saw the slave trade come to Peltarch. And it wasn’t until the people rose up that the will of the populous overcame the power of profit and that the guild's hold on the Senate waned. It was the will and the deds of the people that saw slavery abolished in this city. Only when the people stood up did Peltarch begin its return to what the Fisher King intended it to be – a city free, ruled over by her people!
The guilds are the life blood of this city, but they are not the city. The activities of all must come under the rule of law – law that is set by representatives of the people. When the guilds control those representatives and begin fashioning laws to favour themselves … our history has taught us too well what happens. It is only buy the wise choices of Peltarch’s sons and daughters that history will not repeat itself. This is why I have presented myself as an independent candidate. A candidate that Peltarch’s sons and daughters can trust to vote on behalf of their welfare. A senator who will strive to ensure a decent days wage for a decent days work. A senator who will defend the cause of those who are least in Peltarch, as well as those high born, making sure that all have a voice. With all my heart I believe that the only way that Banish tyranny and civil unrest does not eventually dominate our city is by maintaining a balance in the senate.
With one hand Marty clasps on to a wooden symbol hanging round her neck. The other hand she stretches toward the sky. She closes her eyes and prays a vow.
Before all those bearing witness today, I make this vow in the name of my patron god Sheela Peryroyl, and in the name of the patron gods of Peltarch, that if I am elected to represent the people on the senate, that I shall eat no finer food and eat no more often than the poorest person living in this city, that I shall not live in a finer house than the poorest person in this city – even if it sees me sleeping in a tent. I vow that should our senate send out sons and daughters to war that I endeavour to be on the front line with them!
Marty returns her attention to the crowd
Brothers and sisters, by voting for me you are not voting for another politician. You are putting yourself on the senate.
**For greener fields and a fairer Peltarch!
My name is Marty Leaffall.
DEEDS NOT BLOOD!**

((a copy of the speech she made in the residential district))
*Not too long after Adrian makes his speach, Marty rounds up the crowd again and takes the podium. *
CITIZENS OF THE JEWELl!
Bless you all for coming out and giving me your ear this morning!
During his last speech, my fellow candidate made mention of me. I feel honoured and flattered that he would consider me worthy enough of an opponent to publicly oppose my campaign! You may recall that he brought into question my intellectual faculties, suggesting that I lack the education or the understanding to navigate the “labyrinth” of politics.
Please allow me to retort!
I may be many things; a soldier, a gardener, an elder among the druids … but a simpleton isn’t one of them! It would be obtuse of me indeed if I sought to run for a seat on this city’s senate without spending the last three years studying our political system! I think you will find that I am not uneducated, and that I possess the wisdom needed to see social justice and prosperity reign in this city!
But if Mister Petrarch still believes that I am lacking, then perhaps he will consider joining me as my aide? Winks at him if she spots him in the crowd
“Knowledge verses good intentions”!? My dear Mister Petrarch, I believe in this city’s beautification more than most! But I have knowledge enough to know that this city’s TRUE beautification will be in its freedom! The Jewel will be made truly beautiful not with cobbled streets or statues, but with liberty for her people, justice for her workers, the strength of her walls and the satisfaction of the hungry belly! It is this knowledge that I will bring to bear on the senate! I may not be high born or raised with privilege, but I have not risen up the ranks of our lands most elite military force, or attained the position of Elder amongst druids by being naïve!
And that said I believe that “good intentions” are at the VERY HEART of what makes someone worthy of representing the people of this city on the senate! Selfish intentions, ill advised intentions, intentions that see traitors to the south prosper while our own sons and daughters go hungry … “good” intentions are EXACTLY what we need on our senate!
My name is Marty Leaffal!
Holds her hands up high, making a “V” sign with her fingers.
DEEDS not BLOOD!
-
Marty attends the Barbie of course! She spends a lot of her time speaking and listening to folks who come along, Healing the odd ailment, and praying for the fertility of barren women.
-
A small troupe of rough, burly huntsmen in bright red jackets enter the city with wagons of freshly-slain deer, wild boar, duck, and other game animals. They go to the dock quarter and set up fire pits, roasting the savory meat and seasoning it, and handing out slabs of steaming meat on a trencher of hard, crusty bread to any willing to some and eat with them.
"Leaffall helped bring us prosperity! It's because of her we've extra game to bring to you, and if you elect her you're sure to eat well. She hunts her prey… corruption, waste, tyranny, fraud... and brings it to earth. Why, even the other candidates, like that sensible Fisher fellow, have praised her. If you know who has your interests at heart, you'll vote for Leaffall."
They continue their barbeque until all the meat is gone, and then slouch their way out of the city.
-
A short speech given in the residential district just after Chadwick Whyte’s rally. She is dressed in one of her nicer green dress. Nice, but not too fancy.
CITIZENS OF THE JEWEL!
My fellow candidate has called me Naïve for my words spoken against the actions of the Harvest Union, words spoken in defence of Duncan Hertwell, a humble farmer forced off his land.
Please allow me to retort!
“Ongoing Legal proceedings”? “Leave legal affairs out of politics”? I saw no legal proceedings. All I saw was a man being forced out of his home by bullies! I saw a farmer wandering the streets of the city desperate for help! This was no LEGAL AFFAIR! Be sure of one thing – When I see a bully rise up against anyone, I will stand to meet them! Be it N’Jast, the Banites, the hired thugs … And may the gods strike me if I remain silent when I see such things! “Legal affairs out of politics”!? Maybe that’s the whole problem with the current state of politics? – Legal affairs have been left out for far too long! A senator or a guild is not above the law! Our laws exist to protect the people, but the crafty, the sly and the powerful will use them to oppress!
And as I said clearly in my last speech, but perhaps not clearly enough for some, I am not against the guilds! Surely they are the life blood of this city! But I am against bullies! I am against a Baneish oppression of the workers, the farmers, the “little people” oh whose shoulders this city is carried! May the guilds be blessed in all their works! … Provided those works are good and right of course!
And my dear Mister Whyte, I know the history of the Fisher King well, and the history of the guild he founded. I also know well the history of the slave trade in Peltarch, of how Wavebreakers and Senators who opposed the Seafarer’s trade in bodies and souls would mysteriously end up floating face down in the Icelace! .. But this is ancient history of course. The slave trade was long ago outlawed by the senate. But I know of our good Fisher King well enough to be sure that he would never stand for a lot of what goes on in this city!
Mr Whyte asked what can I, Marty leaffall, really offer the city? Let me answer Mister Whyte! With my last breath I will strive to ensure that the sons and daughters of Peltarch are fed, are safe, and are free. I will ensure that our fields are productive, I will ensure that our borders are secure, and I will ensure that all who seek to oppress and bully are beaten back! THAT is what I have to offer Mr Whyte! I cannot be bought! I will always stand against a bully! I will always fight against corruption! I’m not here to tip the senate in favour of my guild! I’m not here to use the political process to achieve my own goals! I’m here, running for a seat, to do my duty as a citizen! To serve the city and her people! To make sure the city remains a Jewel, and is not turned into a lump of coal by greed and corruption!
**My name is Marty Leaffall.
I’m on your side!**

Well-inked posters go up in the noble and wealthy areas of the residential district.
//Picture of a horde of angry, badly clothed rioters, such as were seen during and after the war, advancing on a terrified well-to-do couple and their stately home//
Only TWO Things Will Keep The Savage Mobbe At Bay:

VOTE FOR MARTY(This informative handbill paid for by Ecological Voters Interest League for DRUIDS.)

_A number of very well-inked posters go up in those areas of the city that were hit the worst by the food shortages around the war and in the disruption afterwards due to the loss of Jiyyd's trade.
They show, alternately, a smiling farmer under a sunny sky delivering wagons of food through the Market Gate to eager citizens, or a saddened farmer delivering a meager, barren wagon to starving, disappointed mobs.
Both posters read:
**WHY RISK A BAD HARVEST EVER AGAIN?
Marty for Senate
Ensure Your Children Do Not Starve**(Paid For By Ecological Voters Interest League for DRUIDS.)_
-
A number of flyers are put about the place, accompanied by bell ringers announcing that the candidate Martoushca Leaffall will be making a speech in the market area the next day..
The next day:
“CITIZENS OF THE JEWEL!
There are MANY reasons why I love this city. The walls are high, the markets are fair, the folks are tall … But the main thing that I love about Peltarch is what it is built on! Our cities founder, the great Fisher King, built this city on an idea – FREEDOM! Rather than set up a royal dynasty or rule as a tyrant, he gave his crown to the people, so that they would rule themselves through their representatives on the senate. FREEDOM is what made this city GREAT!
And this city is great still, but the freedom that it is built upon is in short supply these days. A man should be free to have his hard work rewarded yes? Then why did I see the good farmer Duncan Hertwell being FORCED from his HOMESTEAD by the hired thugs of the HARVEST UNION!? The Harvest Union – the puppet of the SEAFARERS GUILD, oppressing our farmers and robbing them of their FREEDOM!
People of Peltarch, it may be true that the guilds offer much to this city, but they rob us of much too. The Seafarers Guild have offered to build homes for the homeless, yet we still see people living in tents. Their deeds betray their motive. They care not for your welfare, or your security. They want your blood, sweat and tears in order to build their mountain of gold! DON’T LET THEM STEAL YOUR FREEDOM! Who will end up like poor farmer Duncan next? I urge all of you – I am keen for your vote, but whoever you vote for, don’t give the guilds even more power to oppress by voting them into the senate! Let them do their gob as merchants and business men. Don’t let them become your tyrant masters!
There are candidates that have yet to come under the thumb of the guilds, and if you feel that somehow I am not worthy of your vote, then I beg that you vote for one of them. I AM NOT AGAINST THE GUILDS, but I AM against them becoming tyrants over us!
Good people, vote with your head and your hearts!
Up until this point I have not spoken agaisnt any other candidate, but some things must be told. Should you elect me as your representative on the senate, I will stand against the OPPRESSIVE deeds of any group or individual that attempts to rob the people of this city of their FREEDOM!
DEEDS NOT BLOOD!”

A strangely familiar halfer in crimson garb is seen to be wandering the streets of Peltarch with a little "Marty for yoo!" flag waving from his shoulder plate. He is also seen asking about Grak and his complaints about who Marty chooses for friends. It would appear he is quite irate about the comments made.
-
speaks up
You know… he's right on one point (and one point only I might add - the rest of what he said was total garbage) - it is odd for us to claim "bosshod" by mere words. Actions will always speak louder than words - and I anyone who knows of my actions will know two very important things about me. First, that this city and the people in her are more precious to me than my own life. And second that I rarely back down from a fight!
So vote for me, and I pledge that together we will get things done!
-
@72ea61667a=Oddba11:
Araganor stands next to Grak, watching the rally with a leer.
"Agreed."looks the happening, sneers and replies
"Dem huuumies way of claiming bosshood mocks all possible ancient ways we knows. Females, shortys und even weaklings claiming bosshood bys mere talking". snorts
"Comes, we goes before we gets affected bys them foolish ways or their scent"

_Calen hands Grak an Ale and some food pats him on the back and smileBIG
Now now, you have seen no such thing for yourself, so you do not know for certain. I suggest then against slandering a well respected person and enjoy the food and enjoy the drink_

glares, but makes no comment

grak is loitering around, keeping his hand on his gold pouch. His other hand rest on his belt, next to his club
"aye, female talks much, too much fer mere female. Grak heard em shortys parents were but poachers carving em livehood on orcish sacret land. Grak also heard dem friends female claims to gots bes but simple brigants living on nearby lands, doing same thing whut shortys parents were caught ats.
Now female would brings dem thieves und poaches to enjoy town coin, bys giving coin frem so called good harvest"

Perriwig P. Doubleday peruses the food stalls, helping himself to generous portions of the grub available. Sauntering by the candidate, he winks at Marty, congratulating her for her "generosity" ahem winkwink
-
Calen is seen walking around and helping pass out fliers for Marty as well as helping with healing here and there of small ailments. He is seen nodding and applauding for her as well as starting a chant of "Marty! Marty!" after she is finished. Those that ask him of his campaign he is polite in his answers though is firm in telling all that he supports Marty's candidacy and hopes to be able to call her a fellow Senator when the election is through
