Tavern Rumors of Peltarch

  • _Adrian turns to Mariston and breaks into fiery rhetoric, making no effort to speak quietly or discreetly in the face of those present.

"Of course I have. In fact, with the income from this trade I hope to -create- an alternative source. One that does not originate from a city where slavery, undead and dark faiths prevail. But we cannot do so with empty coffers! Or are -you- going to take a shovel and a pick, and supply the city with the stone and wood it needs?

For all your poisonous words and preaching of morality, I have not heard you make -any- suggestion, let alone one of practical arrangement, that does not involve dictating the morality of our guilds and people!

For all the experience and virtue you claim to have, haven't you quite understood yet that people should -want- to chose not to deal with Oscura? That they should willingly -choose- to sacrifice the material for the spiritual?

So why -demand- people to live up to your own, restricting morality when you do not seem to even make an effort to simply -understand- them.
These people are not paladins, and it's not our place to demand that they be. While -you- spew bile at the guilds, others have been working to prevent the city from falling into chaos, and prevent all we have accomplished since the war from falling apart! It's no surprise these people are in the streets again.. how long has this been going on?! We finally came to an accord, between guilds and Senate, and now you would sunder it again!

The guilds are the lifeblood of our city, and you make it seem as if they serve Oscura already! The bile you spew at them at every single gathering of the Senate is nothing more but thinly-veiled accusations indeed. What -exactly- do you think to gain by doing so?! If you have -any- respect for this city's people, and -any- respect for Tyr's law and order, do not undermine the work that these people do every day until you have definite evidence!"

He turns halfway to the guards and guildfolk, his following words directed at them just as much as at Mariston.

"We didn't work so hard, trough war, terror, disease and hunger to just to fall to corruption. Which true Peltarchan would allow this, from himself or any other? If there is some sort of conspiracy, the traitors -will- be found and brought to justice. -I- have this much faith."_

((ack, took me a while to write this up.. and now I didn't see the last post. Oh well))

  • As quickly as before, news from City Hall filters through the City; the Senate has voted to uphold the trade agreement with Oscura, and further to that, is now debating a proposal by Senator Snydders to block further attempts to abolish trade for the next five years. As this news reaches the docks, the disorder and disarray loses its impetus and those persisting in riotous behavior find themselves being forced to yield to the much relieved guard.

  • Eluriel meanders around town purchasing food, arrows and scrolls, mentioning at an easily-overheard volume that she's looking for a guide to Mulhorand.

  • I was going to talk about doing what is right, not that which is easy…but frankly I can not find the energy to explain it all again. Rather than rely on a fetid, foul, vile and frankly evil place for coin, hath thou –even – tried to look for alternatives?
::shakes his head and returns his attention to the trouble unfolding in the streets::

  • "And how would repeating this whole 'discussion' again accomplish anything? This is what was decided."

  • ::Mariston sends a missive to the freed slaves to contact him::

  • _The majority of the ex-slaves freed by good senator Redralen have seemed to stick together and form their own small community in the tent city area. It seems that women are taking care of the children and few of the men have joined as well.

Lately, when the rioting has started, they've rumored to be looking for house, which would have plenty of room but would be cheap or have flexible payment arrangement, that they could rent as community to not need to let the children live in middle of the riots._

  • ::Mariston arrives at the docks, look at the rioters with a calm expression then dons his helm. He then walks to rioting area and scans those that are causing the issue, he then addresses the crowd::

If thou hath issue with this matter, come bring it to me, I raised this matter for the families that were enslaved and the lies and deceptions of the town that hides in the dark. More opportunities will arise in the near future I am sure. Those found causing riotous behaviour would however not be a party to any form of trade either way!

::shoots a glance at Adrian and says more quietly::
The will of the people? thou art blind to politics it seems.

  • Perriwig capers about in the riotous Docks district, clearly mistaking the hullabaloo for some sort of civic carnival. With his usual gusto, he joins in and starts issuing these … ahem hem ... characteristic hoots and chants. Perriwig P. Doubleday ~ this gnome'll make it so!

"Huzzah for Fishy Fish Fish Fish Fisher! The fishly friend of trade! ~ Up with generous Heffa, the guildman's ally! ~ Huzzoo for eerie Enny Snydders, the People's profane sorcerer! ~ Boo for Baron Ronron RedreLIEan, a blethering bandersnach! ~ Shame on Sir Mariston Thel, the humblecrumbsnatcher of Peltarch!"

  • _Val, ever the bard around the realm, drops by the docks and puts on an impromptu performance involving singing, various instruments, and a light show, in the hopes of giving the people with nothing better to do, SOMETHING better to do, rather than riot.

She does this every night, schedule permitting.

Afterwards, she drops by the soup kitchen and offers a hand, trying to show the people there that there are some who care for them, despite what naysayers would have them believe._

    // Taking 10 on perform, for a 57 result.

  • Perhaps to the surprise of many, Adrian arrives at the barricade even while the Senate's meeting is still underway. He does his best to keep morale up in the guard, and to calm tempers with the guildsfolk.
"The Senate voted in favor of the trade, and it will not take this away again, regardless of what a few high-headed may claim or try. The people of Peltarch have decided in favor of this growth, and their opinions and wishes -will- be respected."

  • @affee8d8fd=Caoimh:

News spreads abruptly from City Hall that the Senate is once again heatedly debating a new proposal to ban all trade with the city of Oscura. The docks immediately erupt into disorder and chaos, with the beleaguered Guard stationed there unprepared for the sudden surge of anger from the Guildspeople. Fortunately for residents of the Commerce District, Captain Velhar is quick to establish a roadblock on the main street from the docks, succeeding thus far in preventing the tide of dissent from spreading throughout the city.

Yana mutters a few choice Uthgardt obscenities directed at the Senate, while doing her best to quell the riot without killing anyone.

  • Watchtower of Old

_Atop the hill to the south of Peltarch, once stood a fine watch tower. Protecting the city from the barbarians in the pass. These days it is barely more than a ruin - broken to pieces, and so on.

    Is it?

An excitable halfling Waukeenar says she saw the tower intact just the other day. She claims to have spotted a human, a dark haired woman atop the tower, cape flowing in the wind, staring towards Peltarch, as if she was inspecting the town. She claims that it seemed odd to her that someone atop a watchtower would stare in the wrong direction - almost as if watching for some criminals to emerge from the city itself.

However, when asked about showing someone this strange sight, the Waukeenar declines even generous sums and directs them towards a certain Miss Blonde that apparently seemed involved with the whole issue. If given a few coins, she even suggests to use spells like See Invisibility, or True Seeing to find that very Miss Blonde._

"She's easily scared, she is. Really skittish. And didn't buy anything, either!"

  • The body of a young Selunite priest known to some as Bartholomew was found dead in the Bottleneck apartments. It appears as if he choked to death or suffocated somehow. His body was found by a resident and reported to the guard.

  • Rumors of late go around that Aelthas has been spending time with female hin prostitutes, he's been spotted even taking them out to dinner at the Mermaid and having a particular one over to his house some mornings, after his wife goes off to work.

  • _Senator Ronan is seen rushing to the residental district at full gallop on horseback, despite it being frowned upon that horses shouldn't be ridden in the city. The senator stops at a certain house, and rushes in.

After about half an hour, he is seen leaving the home, looking highly relieved. Whatever caused the usually calm and confident mage to have such fear in his eyes, is anyone's guess._

  • Ghostly apparitions, this time in the shape of Marcus Ash and a score of guards, appeared near the commons recently. Fighting an unseen foe and cursing N'Jast, the call came to fall back to city hall before the vision faded. The fall of the Commerce district, replayed?

  • Noticibly less pleased is the Black Sails captain, Sabre Seesaw. With a few terse orders to the crew and a hard look at the senator, she leaves in the direction of the residential district.

  • Bianca Yelitsar, Paladin of Torm, and her adventuring group "The Thornless Rose" are can be seen staying at The Dancing Mermaid. The group consists of a Priest of Torm, a quiet wizard, a swashbuckling fencer who seems to follow Lathander and a stalwart warrior of Tyr. They mostly keep to themselves, for now at least.
