Urebrion Rend

Log of scribe Rheumar Thamsin, Monastery of the Yellow Rose.
_Our group of traders came back today with an elven child. He looks to be a wood elf, but he's so skinny and in such bad shape, that it is hard to tell. He carries hideous scars all over his body, that are too old for our healers to do much about. They came upon a group of Malarites savaging a small settlement, when they where taking a shortcut through a forest. Such a grizzly sight as they had never seen, by their own words. It's a strange thing really, the followers of Malar tend to let their prey run for a while before giving chase. Outright attacks on settlements in this way must mean they were quite desperate.
Still, our regular trading group consists of well seasoned men, and they managed to defeat and run off the Malarites. The Malarites left behind a skinny elven child, and our group decided to take pity on him and bring him back. He seems more an animal then an elf, to be true. Our men had to stuff him in a sack to bring him. Says he fought like a cornered wildcat._
Later entry:
We have managed to feed the child back to health, though he's still quite feral in his ways. The Abbot has decided he should be given formal training to keep him busy and teach him discipline. A tutor has also been assigned to teach him language, as he seems to lack everything save a few elven words, including what seems to be his name, Urebrion. Two years later:
The child has grown amazingly for an elf these past few years. His natural speed and agility has increased greatly through the training he has been given. Though he excells in the martial arts, his mental faculties is still quite animalistic. His tutor has given up teaching him in the traditional fashion, and decided to simplify words in a way that lets him communicate effectively, but very simplistic. He reads and writes poorly, but he can at the very least understand a roadsign. All that being said, he seems to be possessed of a strong intuition, and he can be quite perceptive at times.Four years after last entry:
Urebrion, the elven child, has yet again failed to listen. His morals still seems that of an animal, though we have managed to teach him honor and discipline. He never lies and keeps his word to a fault, but we fail to teach him the compassion and empathy that is required of any disciple of Saint Sollars. This time he was challenged by a fellow student to a sparring match, and proceeded to thrash said student so severely -raking him with his long hardened nails, and even biting him- that said student had to spend over a week recovering in bed. It is no coincidence he has aquired the nickname Rend. Upon questioning Urebrion merely stated, and i quote: "When give challenge, should be prepared. Man was weak. I give gift of pain, to teach." It would seem our good elf has misunderstood the tenements of Illmater. We carry the pain for others, we do not give it away as a "gift."Half a year later:
The Grandmaster of Flowers himself has decided that good master Rend should take a journey out into the world. He needs to see it's pain and learn the teachings of Illmater by experience, as he listens to lectures about as well as the courtyard cat. He will leave on the morrow, and seems in no way concerned about it.
