_Following a commotion at the gates and Dwin, Aramuil, and Mord negotiating with a goblin herald, rumor runs rampant that Norwick has paid the bugbears the sum of 100,000 gold pieces for the return of a captive.
Apparently when they hesitated to pay, the bugbears called in the Dark Enchantress, who smote Mord and Aramuil dead on the spot.
Another rumor states that Dwin has agreed to pay the bugbears an annual tribute to leave the town in peace… although this claim seems less believed than the first two, each of which have multiple people who claim to have seen and heard the whole thing._

A most wretched looking General Lyte, of the Royal Troff Legion, who is generally almost always fastidiously neat and fetching in appearance, is seen being helped into town by Aramuil, Dietrick, Belia and others sometime after the crazy rumor spreads.
She seems disoriented and keeps bumping into things on the way to the healers, and the people with her seem anxious and worried, even more than is normally the case around this action packed little barbarian village.
More rumors spread that she has been held captive by bugbears and tortured or drugged and tortured, or magically geas-ed and tortured, or was ripped limb from limb after being tortured, and that after being tortured, she was released after having been ransomed for gems, coin or mithril, or all of the above.
Only thing that is consistant in the various tales is torture!
