Crop Circles

  • _((We have a couple converging attempts here…so everyone conducting the ritual or helping with it please post out the entire ritual until it is complete. I will then post its results ...and consequences afterward. A question or three may be answered before the ritual is complete however.))

    Edit: ((If more than three days goes by without a post by one, more or all participating, I will simply assume that PC or group of PC's acted together as outlined in Z's PM...he can either make that clear if you ask him nicely or when I post the results of the ritual))_

  • Telli nods to Jerr and Z as the ritual time draws near…"Askededs Chauntea fer a blessings too Mr Z incase more a dems insects and rodents comes... da blessings gaders all da gnats and ants and hornets inta one spot ta helps fights tings off..."

  • I would gladly help out, Z.

    Jerrick arrives before dawn the next day, and has an odd item in his hand, vaguely round and Amethyst in color.

  • @a3aaeda6b7=JerrickRafe:

    Jerrick answers with a grim smile, and points back towards the general direction of Norwick's Phoenix guild house's hill.

    Remember those trees that were people, captured by the fey and turned into those forms? We druids have a tool that may be able to stop the spread of this blight, like it has before with the taint the Rawlins suffered from, and has cured those people of their affliction. I'm going to do some research with the tool now that I've had contact with the stuff.

    He adds as an afterthought.

    And don't worry, I can cleanse myself without spreading it. While we have Oberon, I'd may as well make what use of him I can. Be wary of spiders in the woods, by the way, Z. I heard a monster one killed a Legionnaire recently, and would have gotten several more if it wasn't for his brave act.

    Nods to his old friend Ah, okay, sounds good. Let me know if'n I kin help ya in any way.

    A few of us are gonna try and perform a ritual that should get rid of the blight once and for all. If you kin make it, I'm sure we could use your help. Whispers to him when the ritual will be performed

    *First, Z sends word to Telli and Calendel that he needs their help. He then sends word to Aramuil and informs him of the ritual/asks for permission.

    Then, over the next few hours, Z is seen going to the blighted farms and talking, briefly, to the farmers and their families.

    At one point, after speaking to the farmers, he is seen praying near the first crop circle. ((Part of my PM - Detect Chaos))

    The next morning, at the crack of dawn, the ritual starts…* ((PM sent))

  • @8367555600=damiensecond:

    Calendel, having returned from his holy sabatical, reviews the damaged lands and mutters something about Chauntea always having a purpose for him…

    Z is happy to see that his old friend has returned.

    @8367555600=damiensecond:

    In a note sent to Chancellor Dwin and the other Norwick officials Calendel suggests using Earth Elementals to dig very deep and wide trenches between the infected lands and the healthy ones until further investigation can be completed and a solution to the problem found.

    If Cal brings this up while they are working in the fields, Z will tell him it's spread through the air, mostly.
    @8367555600=acmefalls:

    …It's truly negative side shows only hours after the plant reaches maturity, it wilts and dies, releasing a smoky cloud of spores that within hours have spread the blight to nearby previously uninfected crops.

    @8367555600=JerrickRafe:

    Jerrick may have been seen by some marching straight up to the blight, and placing his hand into it, then walking off after a short time, towards the Rawlins, his hand careful not to touch anything.

    Before Jerrick wanders off, Z politely asks him…

    Whatcha doin', Jerrick?

  • Jerrick may have been seen by some marching straight up to the blight, and placing his hand into it, then walking off after a short time, towards the Rawlins, his hand careful not to touch anything.

    A certain few people who have seen him in Norwick lately might remember the dramatic clearing of the trees up at the hill towards the Phoenix hall, and come to their own conclusions.

    //Like protecting the spread of wild fires, deep wide trenches have been used for thousands of years and are very effective at preventing disease, fire, etc from spreading through forests. The trenches would be much deeper than the deepest of roots as well so the only way for the problem to spread would be airborne or spread through the water. If by water it would considerably slow the spread though.//

  • Cyrian looks around wondering what militia the half-orc is talking about

  • ICC

    Grak is sitting near Norwick fire, watching as various group of adventurers, guards and even summoned Earth Elementals are working on the crops

    "Haaer Har Har. Dem town-folks are fools. So much sweat, coin and silly effort for what? For a mere wheat-field! Town's militia must feel like high-kings, when they be foolishly guarding dem most wicked crook of this town; dem wheat-field and it gang of gnats and vermins".

    Haar Har har har!

    Why they dont just put that maggot, whose field that be under sword and burn dem crops, eh? Grak would.

    smiles broadly
    And what would Grak do for that vermins wench…
    Goes silent and smacks lips eagerly, as apparently some thoughts begin to manifest into Graks mind

  • All such weeding efforts have the effect of turning it into a weekly cycle before the wild plants are encroaching again

  • (Small detail, my fault…though replace ashen with loamy as the soil is still enriched if cursed by the decay of previous crops))

  • @ed9a83e4dc=acmefalls:

    Whether because of all the blessing or because of the rich soil left behind by the blight's accelerated decay of plant matter, wild plants have no trouble moving in and flourishing where crops once held sway over several weeks. Maybe its the magic of the crop circle still working its mojo, but it seems a majority of the wild plants moving in are the kind that may be poisonous or known for causing contagious, itchy red rashes from the spread of its oils on contact with skin.

    *Z continues to pray ((To Chauntea)) for guidance and for the healing of the crops every day.

    As the wild plants start to encroach on the crops, Z covers exposed areas of skin and helps the farmers physically remove the plants that can be removed safely. Those that can't are removed by summoned earth elementals.

    In the evenings, after "turning" the vermin that appear every night, he heads to the Silver Valley to see if they have made any progress on solving the problem…besides just burning all the crops.*

    @ed9a83e4dc=acmefalls:

    There are a few medicinal and edible plants sneaked in among the more vigorous weeds that move into the ashen fields, among the more thorn-filled areas of the field..some thorns razor sharp.

    ((ashen fields? We didn't burn them in Norwick, only in SV - AFAIK))

  • All, the blessing, healing, restorations, dispelling, turning vermin, when cast individually have the effect of driving the blight away..for an hour from a single cleric or mage casting. two hours from a joint effort…in the end the blight still returns.

  • Telli also has been spending an aweful lot of time with Z and the others attempting to help. When turning is attempted (Also plant domain), she attempts to use some of Chauntea's stronger blessings to help the healthy progress flourish further asking for greater restoration upon the area. With Parsley's help she watches for when his blessings take hold and when they don't… during the more successful pulses of divine energy she thrusts her stumpy palms into the soil adding full healing and regeneration blessings to the area hoping to help the thriving crops and fields to fight back.

  • *Z spends a lot of time in the Norwick fields trying a variety of strategies to help his fellow farmers.

    He blesses the crops, prays, sprinkles large amounts of holy water, casts dispel magic, and kills off the vermin that infest the land ((Plant domain priests can turn/destroy vermin as undead)).*

    ((PM to CN coming))

    @ddc5c883e1=Tobias:

    Tobias has been seen asking farmers for permission to fireball their crops, just to see what happens…

    If Z is around, he advises the farmers against it. The explosion could cause the spores to spread, through the air, to other farms.

  • Aramuil sternly tells Tobias "no".

  • Mord inspects the crops and then goes hunting for the Advisor, muttering something about tree huggers and fire

  • _Blessings on said infected crops cure them for almost an hour, sometime less. The blight growing back shortly after. The crops infected enough for the blight to take a true hold, actually seem to flourish, growing to their utmost bountiful peak within days. Once said peak is reach, however, they wilt and die within only hours.

    A second crop circle several nights later appears over night. It brings the addition of flies to the creeping, crawling, slimy things that come to the affected areas every dusk until dawn. Flies that reportedly only have a love for the blood of mages. They may be found over the affected area only durng the same hours of dusk to dawn._
