Activity in the woods

  • For years there has been a regular stream of elves to and from the woods south of the Long Road. Nothing noteworthy before now; elves do like their woods after all.

But now, someone leaving the crossroads for Jiyyd might on occasion hear a faint melody on the wind, or on a dark night see a soft glow from some place in the woods to the south.

Curious folk who walk through the woods in the hope of finding the source of these things will, after a decent walk, find themselves in an elven village.

Just ahead is a colourful and fragrant orchard of apples and other fruit. Past that is a central meeting place. Beds planted with herbs and flowers chosen for their uses, colour, and scent stretch towards a wall of trees. After dark a soft luminescence is emitted by some of the flowers.

Off to the right is a striking natural feature. A waterfall tumbles down a tall cliff face so sheer as to render the high alpine ledges inaccessible to any but flying creatures. The stream swirls into a pool in which a sprawling construct of natural stone and river materials spirals down under the water.

To the right of the flower beds is a path through woods which are a maze of shady paths, babbling brooks, quiet pools and leafy bowers that are perfect for romantic rendezvous.

Along the path is a small clearing in which stands a perfectly symmetrical structure hewn from white marble. Rainwater collects in a nearby basin topping a pedestal with a niche cut into it to hold a large hand mirror.

The clearing provides a view to the alpine ledge by the waterfall.

Also in the clearing stands a lavish timepiece carved from hardy stone that will be unbowed by the passage of time. A large golden sundial is inlaid on its upper surface

From there, or from the main clearing, one sees the Guardian Trees. Their branches are magically woven together to bar the passage of anyone but those who approach wishing to worship Corellon Larethian and the Seldarine.
