    Character: Vico Equense

Count Giancarlo Equense was a man of no small means. He and his young wife Carole lived in relative luxury at castle Equense, on a hill near the Rabb river. Joy was ever so great as Carole gave birth to a twin daughters, Aria and Belize. By the time the twins celebrated their second birthday, they already had the knack to terrorise the staff into mild submission.

It was by that time that the countessa one eve smiled to her husband and announced that she was with child again. Giancarlo couldn’t disguise his enormous joy and kissed his wife deeply. In the back of his mind, he secretly pondered a dream of having an heir to continue the Equense lineage would come to pass this time. Yet his dream kept being a dream, as eight months later, Maria was born. As he held the loud bundle of sheets next to his chest, he was enthralled by her beauty, and forgot all about his dream… for then.

It so came to pass that the couple was blessed with three additional children, as Camilla, Rosa and Sebastiana saw the first light of day in the 5 years after. With each of them, Giancarlo’s hopes went up anew, but were quickly washed away in his engulfing fatherly love for the newborn. By the time Sebastiana was born, only a memory of his secret dream remained.

As the twins Aria and Belize became of age, they entered the appropriate social circles and started to get boyfriends. The house had never been so busy. Carriages came and went up the castle at regular intervals. Sounds of laughter and the occasional banter were at the order of the day. The years were kind to the count and countess, and they seemed to be in total control of their lives, until the day that Carole started to become nauseous again in the mornings.

Larin, the summoned physician, quickly came to his conclusion, she was pregnant again! Giancarlo was surprised and overjoyed at the same time. He never expected to become a father at the age of 55. And that night, just before clearing his desk from the new farmer’s petitions, he prayed softly for it to become the heir for which he had waited so long. Suddenly, he became aware of his age.

The anticipation of the six girls combined matched the count’s, as he was pacing along the hallway just outside the master bedroom, where Larin tended to Carole whilst she was giving birth. As he heard the cries of the newborn, Giancarlo rushed inside to find Larin wrapping a pink parsel and putting it besides Carole. “It’s a boy!” she sighed. He closed his eyes and whispered a word of thanks, then kissed her on the forehead and turned to meet his long awaited heir... “We’ll call him Vico”.

_Being the last in the litter’s never easy. Especially with six sisters. The care and motherly attention was sometimes… ehrm... to overwhelming. But hey, who’m I to blame? Though having six older sisters also had it’s drawbacks. By the time they all left the house and got married, my folks were about as poor as church rats, as each of them were sent off with a considerable bridal treasure. Small wonder the castle slipped into disarray, for the gold to maintain it simply wasn’t coming in. In the end, the castle was sold to a would-be noble to pay off the debts. So when it was my time to take over, there was nothing left.

Hiring myself out as a deckmate to pay for passage was a good idea. It brought me all the way to the Ice lace lake. Though I was meant to continue and save up nicely, I was robbed blind by some men in black and gold and left for dead at the docks of Peltarch.

The angel on my shoulder saved me that day. I fled that hostile city as soon as I could. Turning South to somewhat more agreable living conditions, I ended up in this farmers community called Jiyyd._
