  • The Halfling Defence League

    Character: Nydne
    Player: Adric Waddell

Some time ago roughly twenty three years, a young mage of the arcane brotherhood of Luskan, decided to summon a lesser demon for his own amusement. He set it upon the Sacae a tribe of nomads from the Shaar. It was a massacre so the mage banished the demon because he had found it boring, but then something went wrong and the last standing/living nomad, a pregnant woman got caught in the banishment. She was knocked unconscious and the demon vanished not really sure what had happened the mage took her back to Luskan to study her. Not long after he lost interest in her and she gave birth and fled south ending up in Port Llast she took refuge there. The mage not caring if she lived or died never came looking for her, but she lived in fear of a day that he would come to retrieve her. She was taken in by a man named Jole a town watchmen, and he cared for her and her child who she named Nydne. Nydne was blind from birth, and her eyes weren’t normal, this scared her mother So she made Nydne wear a black blind fold to mark her as blind and to hide her eyes.

Life at first was hard for Nydne but she had the fierce determination of the Sacae tribe in her blood and she would not stand down until she won or died trying. She has always been a fighter and her blindness was only an obstacle to over come. As a young girl she would regularly test her strength against the local gang of kids her age, coming home bruised and battered but happy because she could floor most of them. Eventually after knocking out the gang leader she was accepted as one of them, and they would play ‘guard’ or ‘soldiers’ together. Eventually they all joined the Port Llast guard, Although Nydne had some trouble joining because of her blindness, she eventually was able to join, with some help from her peers. A year or three later her and some of the Port Llast guards where sent to the city of Neverwinter to serve as a temporary militia, because of certain troubles that had arisen within the Neverwinter garrison. It took two months to resolve the matter and Nydne returned to Port Llast to find that her mother had taken ill. Her mother passed away peacefully three days later in her sleep and Nydne and Jole took her body to the Shaar to bury her in the soil of her home land. Jole returned to Port Llast but Nydne remained in the Shaar wanting to know more about the land of her ancestors. She learned very little but she then started to hear a voice that told her to go north, being unable to pinpoint the source of the voice she decided to follow its lead although she was the only one who could hear it. She travel far until she arrived in Narfell with very little money left, because she had to pay for the services of a guide and pay for passage on a ship to cross the Alambar sea. Once she arrived in Norwick she sort out work with the local militia, the voice had become silent it’s last and only word as she set foot in Norwick where “Freeeedooom!!!”
