Corruption at its finest

  • Roedran sat by the fire in norwick when he witnessed an odd interruption. Another man who was standing by the fire telling a tale was approached by a man in a red cloak, the obvious leader of the others in red cloaks, and was pushed while being told to leave seats for those who are injured. It was obvious to Roedran that the two had little liking for each other. The tale-spinner made a small protest and was shortly left alone to continue his tale.

Moments later he was interrupted again with a discussion about his rudeness in the previous encounter and why he failed to make room for the injured. At this Roedran spoke up pointing out that the talespinner had been standing for some time before any of the injured arrived, and was still standing when he was approached and pushed. It was at this point that the Redcloak who pushed returned to the discussion and began to query those nearby if the talespinner was bothering them, and he was doing this 'to be fair'. In the short time he had been in Norwick, Roedran had never seen this question asked of those who wished to tell a tale, or sing a song. The man charged with enforcing the law had chosen to take it to an extreme simply because he did not like the one he was using it against. Roedran pointed out that this 'fairness' and 'consideration' has only been seen offered when this man chose to tell a tale. During this the talespinner allowed his emotions get the better of him and chose to use sarcasm to protest rather than reasoning.

After ordering the talespinner to silence a few times, the Redcloak leader had the talespinner arrested, stating that failure to obey his request is all that needs doing to be arrested. Roedran stated that the Redcloak leader has been blinded to his duty by his feelings for the talespinner, and was met with 'then you are welcome to leave' . Knowing that a fight would endanger others, Roedran left. With the understanding that the law in Norwick has become corrupted he now chooses to avoid the town as he can, he keeps an eye out for opportunities to correct this.
