By the light of the fire

Every step was a struggle against a crushing weight, every blink held the floodgates closed. Every smile threatened to crack into a sob, even as he stared into the fire, its light seemed to be a simple shadow. Around him he can hear people talking and laughing, this isn't their problem, and if they knew he'd be right here still. He feels for his necklace and the weight that hangs off it, desperately wanting to look, but he knows that his strength will fail him at its sight. Still feeling lost he hears of another venture into the wilderness, and that feels right. He's already lost in the wilderness of his soul, what does it matter if he gets lost in the wilderness of the world? At least then some good will come of it…...
