Diaries of Icarus Dray - Experiments

  • Questions

I will find the answers. The key to our existence. The key to invulnerability. The key to immortality.

Look at all the creatures, running around, bleeding, eating, copulating, talking of nothing, it disgusts me. Yet some of these revolting excuses for life forms seem to have power of sorts. Each in their own unique ways. I must tap this power, learn from each, take the lessons from each and take their abilities for my own. The strengths of all and the weaknesses of none.

Tentacle of Carrion Crawler - Devourers of the dead, how do they survive feeding on the flesh of others? Immunity to disease, how is this possible? They were not blinded by my lights, horrid, mindless creatures.

Paw of Cat - So silent they approach, and so strong are their claws

Scavenger Eye - Barely people, picking at the remains of other more worthy men. They fall easily to my blinding lights. Yet when catching me unawares, they have an eye for my weak spots, stabbing where it hurts most… So easy to cut out their eyes whilst they lie prone on the floor.

Throat of Goblin - Pitiful, I still hear their screams as they fall to my missiles of pain. What can be learnt from them!? Nothing!

Tail of Rat - Ever they are culled, and ever they reproduce. Everywhere they are, picking at the scraps.

Skeleton Bones - The undead, what binds these bones together? What intelligence drives them to kill? Fascinating. Immune to my lights, strong enough to wield axes. No flesh to pierce, only bones to break.

Flesh of Zombie - Walking corpses, so slow they stride, so clumsy, so futile. What are these but the by-products of inept necromancers? Surely they can do better.

For now I will gather, though it is becoming difficult…

  • The Competition & Rats

The competition I have started in Norwick is proving useful, many are the fools who have provided me with the specimens I require. Countless hours I have sliced and diced these creatures, learning of their inner workings. Days I have spent seeing how the flesh reacts to the various extremities of my magic.

My only concern at the moment are the rats and bats in the caves that I work. Most annoying and distracting. So my focus is now on creating a poison to eliminate these creatures. Once they are gone, I can continue with my ultimate purpose.

The Half Orcs of the Iron Chain Clan have been most useful in this respect and I have gathered the raw materials I need from the spiders. Though recently they have been behaving strangely around me, although I am not so surprised given their obvious brutish nature, I cannot trust them. Perhaps I should learn their language…

  • Mercenaries, Allies and Enemies

It seems my experiments are not always welcome. Fools! How can they not understand I do this for a greater understanding of life itself. What nobler cause can there be? They claim they are pursuing the noble path, talking of honour and ethics. So futile, they do not see the bigger picture. Yet these Paladins and Nature Lovers frown and interfere. Whispering lies and falsehoods in the ears of potential bodyguards. Fortunately some do not listen, the flash of coins ever the persuader of those who can think of nothing but wealth. I will use these people, these brutish half orcs, these unscrupulous mercenaries. They have their uses, for now. Let them take the pain and the wounds, a fair trade they think for a few coppers and silvers.
