Login: WanderingAngelA child no more then 8 can be seen holding a Great Sword firmly in both hands, taking swings at an old combat dummy. A man with burley arms, and brown hair can be seen sitting on an old tree stump no more then 5 feet away, with a Great Sword strapped to his back. “Common lad! That’s no way to take down a giant!” A playful grin on his face as Vince swings and misses the dummy completely. “damnit!” Vince curses as the weight of the sword drags him to the ground. The man on the stump burst into laughter and gives Vince a warm smile “heh, well that’s not suppose to happen now is it? You kiss your mother with that mouth?” Vince picks up the blade and looks to the man disappointed and hurt. “I don’t get it Mister Joe ‘Mare… what am I doing wrong?” Frank shakes his head and flexes his arm “Yah need more muscles kid, but hell. Many of us are surprised you can lift the thing.” Kicking the dirt in front of him Vince snaps back “But I train everyday! Why am I not stronger!?” Frank hops off the stump and walks over and places his hands on the boys shoulders “It takes time lad… you can’t get stronger instantly…” Before Vince can utter another response the man grabs his nose “Neh! La go of ma ‘ose!” Frank chuckles a bit as the boy struggles trying to wiggle his way out of the man’s grip. “Listen Vince… Sometimes, you need to just have… patients. Rushing everything isn’t always the answer.” Releasing the boy’s nose he watches him rub it furiously. “Fine… but how long do I have to wait?” Frank just smiles sadly “who can say? But right now I have to go out and patrol the roads now I’ll be by later to check up on you alright?” Upon seeing the boy’s face light up he frowns and shakes his head “I read your thoughts Lad, no.. you cannot come. I trust you to protect the Village while I’m gone.” His frown fades and turns into a smirk, and then he ruffles the boy’s hair. “Wish me luck huh?” he says while unstraping the Great Sword from his back, Vince watches him as he walks down the long winding road.
He never did come back… Some said he was killed fighting a pack of orcs. Others said he was captured by a neighboring village. We never really knew… whatever it was it was, it was the first of many disappointments Vince would have to face throughout his life.
Years past and Vince is now 10 years old. His skill with the Great Sword increases, and he is already become a challenge to some of the older men in the village. Still training everyday by the old tree stump, the combat dummy no longer had a head. It was a sunny day, bright and hot. Vince’s stands back and wipes sweat off his brow and stares down the shaded road. A figure dressed in blue was coming his way, Vince strained his eyes to see who it was but her voice reached him before her sight. “Vince! Vince!” The girl was screaming his name. Instantly dropping his sword Vince scrambled down the road to her. “What?! What is it?” He asked in a fearful voice, his hands trembled as she braced him. Tears streamed down her face as she cried out “he’s dead!” The words seemed to echo in the boys head, he knew all to well who she was talking about. Their father had been ill for while, it was only a matter of time till he passed. They stood for a long time embracing each other… After a time however Vince lightly kneeled down to the girls level, “Common Molly… mom needs us…” she nods and they walk down the long winding road together.
He was never the same after that, his world had been torn when Frank vanished. Now it just seemed like it was crumbling. Two years would past and he lost his mother to the same illness as his father, and then it came to past that Molly was growing sick as well. Her skin was paler by every passing day, but her smile never tarnished. Vince began to search for a cleric to assists him. During the day he would stay and take care of Molly, and at night he would travel to a near by city while she was asleep and try to find help. Every day fear would grip the boy’s neck, squeezing tighter as it threatened to steal everything he had. He began to pray, and immerse himself in religion. Surely the gods would help him, where mortal men failed. He prayed when he awoke from his regular 2 hour sleep, and prayed before Molly went to sleep. Begging any that would heed him to allow her to awaken to see another day. The boys world collapsed completely a year later, at age 10 Molly Grossano passed from this world. And with her everything Vince once believed, his faith in the gods was shattered. Taking his sister body he walked to the old training ground and buried her next to mother and father. Never did the boy shed more tears then that day. Alone and broken, the world decided at the age of 13 to show the boy the way it truly is. Taking up the rusted and old great sword from where he left it, Vince once more wandered down the long winding road. This time never to return…For the next two years he wandered from town to town. His eyes filled with hatred, but more over grief. The precious time he could have been spending with his family, he squander on training. He had lost sight what was more important, and not a second chance to correct it. With no money, and no real will to live Vince began to take bigger risks, raiding goblin camps, hobgoblins, orcs, and many more. One day traveling along the road Vince was suddenly surround by a band of bandits, with a flash of his sword Vince made an attempt to strike down the largest one. This sort of thing happened to him all the time, and he learned that if you go for the biggest bandit the others just seem to scatter. However this one was different, As Vince’s blade drew near the mans face appeared which instilled joy into Vince’s heart “M-mister Joe’Mare?!” Frank seeming taken back by the calling of his frowned and tilted his head to the side examining Vince for a while “and you are?” Vince could understand why Frank didn’t recognize him, since though days he had been in numerous fights, old burns, and scars now covered his body. However his face seem to be just fine. “Its me, Vince! Vince Grossano!” Frank just shook his head and pointed his blade at the boy “That names dead to me, as is that wretched village… Now then, Coin or your Life. Choose!” Frank had changed much in these years, his eyes seemed to be filled with greed. “I….I have no coin…” Vince stammered out, his heart sank. “Then that sword will have to do.” An evil grin spread across the mans face. Before the boy even had a chance to speak Frank knocked him flat. When he awoke several hours later, he traveled for the next couple of days. Why Frank had left him to live he knew not... but his veiw on trust had been turned and twisted. Broken and dead inside Vince made his way to a small town call Norwick....
