Yarin

  • Yarin lay resting in the grass making idle conversation to Vino, the woodsman often seen near the south fire of Norwick. Yarin was about to roll out his bedroll, and find a warm place near the fire to sleep when some memories from his past jumped into his mind in those moments before sleep.

Yarin jangled his keys, as the crude iron cell door slammed shut, a hint of sadness but triumph in his eyes as he turned away from the swearing and cursing elf that threw her metal cup against the bars as he turned for the door of the wooden militia building. Yarin looked out of the doorway a moment, his head still banging from the previous evenings drink as well as the harsh words of the young girl elf now finally locked up. He could still hear her curses and threats inside which were silenced as he slammed the door shut behind him, as he walked out onto the wooden walkway, gazing out toward the afternoon scene of the docks of Lyrabar, the city on the northern coast of the sea of falling stars. Nine months she had inside… you would have thought she would have learnt her lesson... foolish girl, and now this... he said sighing, such a pretty thing too.

He looked up and saw the familiar garb of the aged and poor looking Tyr priest that had encouraged him to come in from the wilds and the outlying farmsteads to aid the forces of law in this pirate town, Yarin smiled, having spent much time speaking with the priest.. and taking most of his teachings to heart. As the priest hurried on by toward courthouse he glanced northwards to where the high trees of the grey forest could be seen shrouded in mist upon a slight rise in the western plain before the mountains.

Suddenly Yarin heard a shout from outside the militia building and a loud " Oi you! " from a guard whose voice he recognised but then heard silenced as he heard a punch connect and the falling of a suit of chainmail onto the street, rushing round, tripping over the chickens that ran through the street infront of him, he saw the lithe retreating figure of the now escaped elf disappearing over a wall. running to the wall and pulling himself up to look over.. he looked down the dim alleyway but saw nothing... not a sign.

Damn girl.. well the guards wont let her back in this town good riddance.. he muttered as he was busy trying to convince himself that he was glad she was gone.
