Medrin Aulen-Country Hin
-
GSID-Ranger Friend
Character-Medrin AulenThe weary hin infant, lulled into sleep on his mother's windowsill, was not prepared for what was to occur. Raiders, with torches and steel beset the hamlet. Unaware of his father's demise at the walls, the child giggled, amused by the glint of steel.
The child was retrieved quickly and surreptitiously by his uncle, the family swordsman. Cursing, his uncle discerned the movement of three vagabonds in the garden. Fending the patrol off, he sprinted into the secure fastness of Arvoreen's Shield, ensuring the future of the Aulen line. Medrin developed in the small fortress, trained and nourished by tales of his enterprising uncle, the consummate swordsman.
He, content in his security, scarcely recalled his parents nor desired their comfort. He assumed, as he developed into adolescence, that the other hins were similarly raised. Medrin was far more preoccupied with emulating his uncle in both personality and combat. His uncle battled with an unparalleled finesse amongst his community, a local legend.
The younger Aulen, sensitive to criticism from his uncle, opted to differentiate himself. Medrin preferred the short, harsh blows of a handaxe to the refined strikes of a shortsword. He also invested in his education, which irked his uncle, who considered education to be for individuals who lacked inherent ability.
Upon completing his education in lore and history, as well as developing a reputation with his axe, he departed for the land of Narfell, in which a sanctuary for the right-sized folks was rumored to exist. Throughout his journey, he was converted to the faith of Brandobaris, whose independent and adventurous doctrine appealed to the intrepid hin. Traveling to Narfell, he has discovered that he is woefully lacking in familiarity with human customs, as well as the arcane with which he has minimal experience.
Physical Description and Personality:
Medrin is a nimble, well muscled hin with an effervescent personality and the vibrant red hair to match. He has an ease of manner which others consider to be of experience or the lack thereof. He is appreciative of others, albeit blissfully unaware of law, using his moral code to guide him. He is not considered to be morally corrupt, yet is certainly not a saint, a trait inherited from his uncle.
