Erevaine The Quiet One

  • ‘I can see you there Erevaine. And if I can see you then you aren’t trying hard enough!’ the elven rogue she knew only as Silence sighed. ‘Star pupil you may be, but that doesn’t mean you can take it easy. Blessed you may be but all that means is that the goals are set higher, that you must work harder to impress us and that you must work harder to earn the powers granted by our Lord and Father.’

Erevaine grew up in the sewers and tunnels of Raven’s Bluff amongst the thieves and vagabonds that roamed there. She was abandoned as a child when her Elven parents found her…uncanny, and having had various people to see the girl child had found out that she was oddly favoured of a God they preferred to have nothing to do with, being merchants and minor nobility. Erevaine knew none of this of course but grew up a sewer rat, running with brats and pickpockets of the worst kind and yet even to them she seemed strange, oddly silent at times, and always aloof. The human children who played with her in her youth grew old before her eyes and she grew to know contempt for a race that fought so hard to live and yet knew death so swiftly. Her elven tutor, Silence, did little to endear other races to her, insisting she speak only elven unless at absolute necessities end. He taught her the ways of the warrens, of stealing and hunting from dark shadows. But more than that he taught her to reverence the darkness itself, to decry the revealing daylight and hunt only at night or in places where the shadows were thick enough to help hide her. She grew up learning the ways of the thief and of the priest and has now come of age. Leaving her tutor she has journeyed far, coming to rest for the moment in the cold north in the town of Norwick, where she has met several elves, and others, who though they may not know it owe obeisance to the Father of Shadows. And so here she stops for a while. To hunt from the shadows, to hone her skills, to protect and heal those that follow her ways and to seek for a darkened path into her own future.

Of course those that meet her know none of this. To them she is a dark haired pale skinned elf girl. Attractive, and often cheerful, though with a glint in her eye that speaks of hidden knowledge, most likely the kind of hidden knowledge all women keep from men, though who can tell. She has so far spoken only in elven, though she understands all that she hears in the common tongue, and has managed to make a few friends along the way. Some of these she would go out of her way to aid and to teach the truth of her faith, others she would go out of her way to aid, as long as it never interfered with any aim she has taken to heart at that time. Her only complaint so far about Norwick seems to be the large numbers of Hin underfoot, but since many of these follow a trade she feels in her heart to be holy she makes allowances.
