character name: Mogrim DarksbaneThe snow crunches as he walks up a slope, at the top he pauses and shrugs his pack into a more comfortable position. Looking around the countryside he gets a far away look on his face as he remembers what brought him to this strange new land.
Smoke fills the air and chokes him as he surveys the scene around him. Panic starts to mount as he realizes he cannot find his love Gloria or his child Sif. He has searched much of the house and had to fire it to destroy the unliving he found within. "Gloria!" "Sif!" he cries, but no answer comes. He runs towards shed at the edge of his property all but dropping his blade in fear and frustration. As he enters the shack he spots a man dressed in bones and skins standing astride his loved ones. He charges at him raising his blade to cut him down, and is brought short by a horrible sight. What moments before were his loved ones, are now awkwardly rising to their feet and shambling towards him. The man he had saw as he came in laughs coldly and says, "They were once yours, but are now mine! You destroyed what was my army, now I take from you to replace what you took from me!" His eyes light up maniacally as he says this in a low raspy voice. He points at weary the husband and father, "Now those you held dear will destroy you for my delight, know that you will never have them back!"
He snaps out of his revery to take notice that in his musings he hadn't noticed two goblins sneaking upon him. His blood boils and anger fuels his movements. In quick flowing movements he draws his blade and shield taking the battle to his now startled foes. The first goblin catches a blade where the neck meets the shoulder and falls in a shower of blood. Upon seeing this the second opens it's mouth emitting a wail of terror and tries to run away. The man rips the blade from the corpse of the first and whirling the sword in a wide arc, neatly slices one of the legs from the second goblin. As the pitiful creature falls to the ground covered in its own blood, he steps on the goblins chest and drives the point of his steel through it's heart.
His grisly work done, the man wipes his blade clean on their meager clothes. Sighing, he sheathes his sword in the same practiced ease with which he drew it. With one look to his fallen foes he turns and walks down the back side of the slope. Shaking his head to himself he quietly whispers, "Mogrim you fool, your sadness almost cost you the only thing left to you." At that moment a wind picks up and curls around him, and with an ethereal voice it seems to whipser, _"Vengence!"_and is gone. Slowly nodding his head Mogrim speaks aloud, "Aye Lord Kelemvor, that is why you sent me to this god's forsaken place. I only hope this Narfell will yield the enemies I need to give my Gloria and Sif rest!" Once spoken the words hang in the air, Mogrim continues on his way a drawn and hunted look on his face.
