Jiyyd - Reactions to current events
-
_After the proceedings of the last days, where a Helmite Knight staggered into the town having been turned into a zombie, a message said to be from the Orcs was found, the slaughter on the Orcish plains that ensued, and a fierce monster charged through the gates, it would seem that the Helmites take a solid stance.
They now seem even more resolute to look towards the town's defense. It is widely rumored that they question the capability of the Legion to protect the town themselves. Whispers at the fire say that they believe the incapability of the Legion to be the cause of much of the Orc conflicts, and that the blame of the dead Helmite is placed on them. Apparently, wide spoken statements of a legionaire concerning "good slaughter" and "wipe them all" would have helped to fuel this thought.
"We will give our blood and life to protect these gates and the people that live here. Perhaps this Legion claims to do so as well, but atleast, we are not the ones bringing the danger here to begin with. Again, last night, this has been proven, when the sacrifice of our brothers helped stop the monster that charged through these gates to lay claim to the lives of innocent citizens."
As for the open boasts of persons claiming to have stood in defiance to the dreaded Bane, several of the older commoners scurry off to their homes somewhat faster than otherwise, often accompanied with a typical sign to ward off evil, when said persons are near. Several more seek an extra prayer at the Temple for protection.
Drudo is rumored to be looking for a pie baker, especially one that is fluent in Gnomish pies of the flying kind. Outside of his inn stands a new trashcan, from the looks of it made by a barrelmaker's apprentice.
Rumor has it as well that Vroka and Finnius are pleased to have a new aid, relieving them of some of the work._

General Grag is seen personally hand delivering a letter witht the Troff seal to Lens and Sir blake. He seems to have quite the grin on his face as well…..
-
_A team consisting of 2 Legion scouts, accompanied by 2 Helmite soldiers, was seen descending into the Old Well.
They gave no claim to their business whatsoever, but they are said to have returned only several hours after._

A bloody cloaked traveller limps in in the early morning hours and mumbles something about an orc aatack on his party. His face is heavily bandaged and one arm seems to not be working correctly
- A torn and bloody missive can found laying on the ground after his passage near the fire* he shambles off into the dark and is not seen again
If anyone opens the missive, and can read it, it seems to be part of a message written in orcish. It is torn and bloody but some of the words can be made out.
"Jiyyd argues for strike
prepare defens
All goes
G"

Aelhaearn has a conversation with a Helmite knight posted upon the tower by the west gate of Jiyyd. The knight grouses about the words of "the Legion's bard" and based on them whines about the Legion members viewing themselves as "false gods" and "immortals". Aelhaearn presses for details and specifics about whom is doing so and in what manner, but the knight replies in vague and expansive terms, claiming "all of them" do.
Dalron seems to enjoy the knight's wisecracks and chuckles at them. The knight makes a point to indicate that he and Dalron are present and keeping the town safe, yet no Legionairres are currently on watch at the gate. The knight seems to think this fact speaks for itself. Aelhaearn indicates this argument is unfair, that the knight is himself not on duty every hour of the day, and that no doubt Legionairres have been watching the gate at times when the knight is safely abed ((not to mention the fact that players aren't/can't be logged in 24/7)).
This conversation is witnessed by at least half a dozen adventurers and a few other townsfolk. Aelhaearn sees the knight will not be swayed and gives up the argument. His opinion is that the knight is being a whiny bitch, but he keeps this to himself. If he speaks about it at all, he suggests the knight must just be in a bad mood, and promotes the idea of everybody working together for the common weal.

Lilly can be seen keeping a close eye on the Helmites, clearly not trusting them, though for the time being she keeps her mouth shut. Every so often she gives a nod or a pat on the back to the ones she thinks are being extra vigilant. What her exact feelings towards them are is anyone's guess.

After hearing apparently false rumors being repeated by Helmites
((Please do not assume what NPC's do or say. This goes as well for other rumors that I've seen happening before. Whether or not an NPC response is/has been given, to any extent… players cannot decide what NPC actions will be.
// Thank you for clarifying that, I had the impression that multiple Helmites were repeating this rumor about Legion being generally negligent. Of course "false rumors" is Genzir's own personal judgement, it wasn't meant to attribute any objective action to the Helmites. //

_Lilin heads to the temple and asks around to see if she can get Clara (The gaurd that was stationed outside) reassigned to the sisterhood
And invites Clara over for dinner to, of course._

After hearing apparently false rumors being repeated by Helmites
((Please do not assume what NPC's do or say. This goes as well for other rumors that I've seen happening before. Whether or not an NPC response is/has been given, to any extent… players cannot decide what NPC actions will be. In this case, Helmites are not repeating rumors or spreading lies. They were overheard in 1 statement that can be read at the top of this thread, after events that have as well been mentioned. I do not mind seeing rumors that "Biswan was seen chasing a rodent", but anything of more crucial importance should be left up to the DMs. For such, absence of the DM's and time should be taken into account.))
_General Grag has been seen entering the Council building. Later on, Lens is being seen heading towards the Otarch mansion with a look of concern on his face, carrying a stack of parchments. On his way there, he is stopped by Shanti, who seems overly concerned about all the rumors that several "lavender-eyed" people have been mingling about, claiming them "city politics, they's not healthy for a place like our home here".
Late at night, Dalron comments on his free time, to some friends at the inn while they share an ale, that it would seem "poor Mereppi is still trying to make more sense out of a bloody huge pile of citizen records up there", and that "she needs something else to do, poor lass".
If anyone speaks to Helmite Squires or Soldiers, they merely return a polite look, while keeping up their watch, not giving a response at all. One of the Knights listens to Lyte's latest words and questions, and tells her in response of what he thinks might be going on with the Orcs, that "It's too quiet out there. Way too quiet. Not even a single sound or drum at night, and their fires burn just minimal. Something is up, and this whole prisoner business is not matching up to it." He does not offer a single smile, remaining very stoic.
Upon the remarks of asking Norwick to help "form the militia" not a single response is given, though met with very harsh looks from Just'ene and several of the older militia. Apparently they have their own idea about it all.
Some older men gathered at the inn merely scoff about the whole proceedings, denouncing everything as "just another bunch of fools" and muttering about the "good old days". Especially with them, the lavender-eyed man's questions are not taken in welcome, an at one particular moment he needs to dodge a mug of ale, which is met with general laughter from the inn's patrons. "Ya be off ye scurry, I'll put me trust with Lens an' em all till me dyin' day. Atleast we're still 'ere ta remembe' how him and his pals up there dragged this town outta the mud, unlike ye young folk. Wha' ya said yer name was again anyways?"
Nathander is often seen immersed in writing… something. If anyone asks, he claims to finally be making his "... masterpiece, the creme de la creme of all that was and is to be!"
The Soldier that was posted outside the Sisterhood, is seen spending several days around the Temple barracks, doing all sorts of menial tasks in grudging silence. Another one has now taken her place to keep watch over the Sisterhood's entrance._

[OOC]Yes that was kind of a cheesy response on my part, but I think the point about Jiyyd being a small farming village, where residents would know each other well enough to distinguish strangers from other residents, still stands (even if the strangers don't have lavender eyes). This is not a big city where you have anonymous random people walking around. More to the point, while I enjoy your depiction of the random lavender-eyed townsfolk, I have no way of responding ICly, and would appreciate a chance, even if it's a relatively low chance, of having my character notice something suspicious. Not having that chance at all is a bit frustrating. This is not like putting up posters where you could conceivably sneak around and put them up when nobody is looking, to talk to people like this you have to be somewhat out in the open. Anyway, sorry for nitpicking and being a bother, but my PC's character concept is very much based on being perceptive and picking up nuances, so something like this is inevitably a matter of interest.[/OOC]
After hearing apparently false rumors being repeated by Helmites, who are, as far as he knows, a rather lawful and truth-oriented crowd, Genzir begins spending more time in town, keeping his eyes and ears open for whoever else might be spreading these rumors.
Rather odd, these rumors. I never heard such talk before from the farmers and townsfolk here. And what's all this talk about Dwin, anyway?
-
Somewhat dissappointed at Drudo's lack of appreciation for his craft, Fool walks back out to observe how the politics are proceeding. He watches and offers some of the legion folks some muffins and gnomish pies.
((Just so folks don't get confused, Fool wouldn't be approaching people that he knew with his rumours. The lavender-eyed malcontents are spreading rumours to NPC townsfolk. I just thought it would be better to give some info on how he was starting the rumours, than to simply say:
"Rumour spreads around town that Dwin is a good leader and the Jiyyd Council is incompetent."
Presumably y'all would hear a bastardised version as the gossip got passed down the grapevine. ))
-
Genzir does not openly express his curiosity at the sudden influx of lavender-eyed strangers that seem unusual even to him, and, he thinks, must be even more so to the residents of a small farming village like Jiyyd, where everybody at least knows of each other. Perhaps they are immigrants from Norwick? From time to time, he approaches any Helmites near the ever-popular camp-fire and asks them if they have gleaned any new information about the orcs. He asks them how their scouting patrols are going and what, if anything, they might have learned about the orcs' plans.
Just tell me if you need any help scouting them. I can make your men fully invisible, and for a good while at that, should you want to drop in and see what the orcs are up to. I even know a few divinations that might still work, even with the Weave all warped and woofed up as it is. Just tell me anytime you want my help with a patrol. Since you're helping us guard the town, it seems we ought to help each other out as much as possible to figure out what the orcs are doing. We can't let them catch us off guard, can we?
EDIT:
In response to the accusations that the Legion has not adequately defended the town, Genzir approaches Helmites, townsfolk and more itinerant types (i.e. adventurers), and asks:
What attacks are we talking about, exactly? The only time I'm aware of where the orcs made serious headway into the town, Grag and Tolin were there defending the gates, and probably other Legionnaires as well. If the orcs could get past those two … well ... I don't think having more regular guards is going to help us. What we ought to do is set up some kind of procedures for advance warning, so we can call on more defenders, and evacuate the town if things get really ugly.

*After drinking Lady Vroka's very nice tea and listening to her quiet words, Lyte stands with her head bowed at her worn guard-spot for quite some time as if in thought, or contemplation, and eventually strides over to the Helmite guards at the west gate and can be seen offering them some of the Legion's recent intelligence on growing orc strength and dispositions…discussing what the orcs might be up to at some length with various Helmite soldiers.
If any Helmites continue their rumors of Legion lax guarding or of other disciplinary incontinence in earshot of her, it doesnt register on her face; she seems all business..professional, but with a casual, pleasant bearing.
Obviously, some think, Vroka brews one hell of a tea.*
-
Ael can be seen shaking his head as everyone bickers back and forth, instead of joining in, he simply walks to the gate to keep watch with anyone who is there.

((
Please do realize that unless specifically stated otherwise, I am taking IC responses here to be stated outside in the open. Outside means within hearing range of either militia or our currently targetted Helmite NPC's, unless as well clearly stated. The manner of IC responses will be taken into account in future RP'ed situations.
Friendly warning off.
))_The Helmites seem to either not care, or take no notice of the words, continuing their own guards and patrols alongside the walls as usual. One Knight however does give Lyte a very hard glare, upon hearing the words "masked newcomers" and "spreading lies". About any other of the issues concerning politics or past they remain impassive, and rumor soon starts that they have been instructed to not incite the "upstanding citizens of Jiyyd" at any rate. Whatever the case, their presence does seem to give the regular watchmen some deserved respite. Especially Dalron is seen much more relaxed off late.
Drudo, after seeing the lavender-eyed man shortly regarding pies, quickly decides this is not who he is looking for and ushers the man back out, claiming his current cook would surely stew him someday should he hire another.
Vroka takes Lyte alongside at a quiet moment, offering a small herbal remedy to relax, since she knows "the legion must be a stressfull task", keeping a sincerely concerned smile. She friendly warns that it does no good to incite more trouble, before heading back to Finnius._

_Dentin, passing trough town and hearing the usual people discuss the usual things..
"Instead of throwing around provocations and blame for what happens, and what has happened for the better part of .. a century? … perhaps the Legion, the Helmites, and whoever else claims to be professional opponents of the orcs, should finish what they start, and wipe the Green Plague from the land once and for all.. instead of always leaving enough in Existence to invite retaliation.
But alas. Perhaps war, suffering, destruction and death are too enjoyable pastimes to end."_

Abner speaks up
The casting of rhetorical insults upon the Legion is nothing more than an obvious attempt to pass off ridiculous, incredulous logical fallacy and faulty reasoning as credible points of a moot argument.
I'll be more than happy to instruct a public class on the formation of a credible argument for the use and purpose of positive public debate.
In the meantime, I urge the masses to pay no attention to the shameful attempts of lesser men to slander a proud organization.

General Grag through his many patrols through the region gets word of all the different rumors and talks going on in town and just shakes his head with a big grin on his face and smiling and nodding to everyone except nicahh he sees her usual saddened face of late and ruffles her hair for fun. Then he sees Zyphlin in the corner speaking on his behalf " Thanks my freind but no wurds are needed, my freinds and my god know what I and the legion have tried to do here that is all tha mattas to me.Taps his shoulder (( Str check 12+8)) And slowly limps off to the halls for some much needed rest and prayer

Dwin sadly shakes his head and speaks loudly enough for his followers to hear.
…The Legion, the presumed-Helmites, even the Militia of the Southern Nars... like all "protecting" groups... should know better. THAT'S what makes em different.
If I were in the Legion, I'd be a bit upset to be compared to "random adventurers." They got defined roles and responsibilities. They got people that depend on em.
Dwin turns to the nearest commoner and mimes hitting something in a tree.
If I go knock a wasps' nest from a tree, and the wasps later come to sting my child, is it not my fault? It is of course! And in how many ways?
Shouldn't I protect my child better? And shouldn't I have left the wasps alone to begin with?
Perhaps I should have blown them all up with a powder keg to make sure none could seek revenge on my own kin?
We don't all know these answers, so we depend on professionals, like the Legion, the lads dressed like Helmites, and my own Militia of the Southern Nars to make the decisions for us.
-
::Chuckles as he hears that::
About as often as members of the sisterhood, the guardians, the union, the divine shield, banites and half a dozen organizations…not mention a handful of random adventurer's with no real organizational ties...that frequent killing them to keep thier numbers down, to seek adventure, or to go through to other lands.
But I'm sorry. I forgot there is a magical field that blocks anyone not in black and blue from entering places where enemies of Jiyyd stand. My mistake.

the purple attired vittorio sits by the fire as he does sometimes… watching and laughing to himself in his ever cynical mood..
"What she fails to notice is... how often does the legion go off to kill said orcs and instigate such danger upon the town itself with their slash and run system. Amusing story this will be, as ever."
