    Perin, born to a perfectly normal gnomish family, the third in line, behind an elder sister and his oldest brother, grew up a normal childhood. No great events happened to fill him with rage, or grief, he simply pottered about, as all gnomes should, intregued by the art of illusion.

    His Father, pleased by this, (or was it his mother under an illusion). sent him off to study under the illusionist, Malker Dotterbug, so named for his fascination in bugs outside the stage. A performing illusionist, he spent the next 5 years traveling the countryside with his master, learning all about the art of being a wizard, and of illusion.

    However, in addition to this, he felt that the flashy effects used on stage, made of simply light and colour were not enough, so also conducted his own experiments into adding substance to these, focusing his studies on evocation as well.

    Then, one day, the two were traveling to Jiyyd to give a show, when they were attacked on the road by a roaming band of Hobgoblins and Orcs. Unimpressed by the light show Malker produced to try and scare them off, they struck him down, leaving poor Perin to flee for Jiyyd, where he spent several weeks afraid to even step outside, before working up the courage to face life again, and make what he could of his new home.
