Fireside Chat: Baba's Visions

  • ::Baba Katya retires to her well-worn rocking chair and looks over a few of her most trusted oath takers and family members. Her tired eyes show a twinge of fear as she fades in and out of the visions that have tortured her not only when peering into the spirit realm, but also, while she sleeps.::

“Fire, claws, darkness….I see. The scent of warm blood laden breath covers my face. Gore caked on mangled claws rip at my people. An orange glow…they come! They come!"

::Her wrinkled hands shake as they slowly move towards her forehead to soothe the visions. Jeni places a cover over the magic bowl that aids Baba in her spirit trances.::

::Elera moves over to Baba patting her hand soothingly:

“Baba, have you seen anything relating to the people who have been kidnapped by the Gnolls over the land? They have to be related in some way?”

::Baba wearily shakes her head no and fades into an exhausted slumber::

::Elera casts a worried look over to those present.::

    “Has anyone heard anything?”

  • Milo, the camp chef, who just happens to be walking by, notices the distraught state of the gypsy Baba and concernedly helps Cera and the others aid her to her bed. There she can rest.
While the others talk about the visions, he prepares some herbal tea, soothing to the nerves and spirit. He offers some to both Cera and Baba Katya, respectfully.

  • ::Jenni sees Baba pass out from exhaustion. Before she falls to the ground, Cera catches her and safely brings her back to her bed in the tree house.

Baba’s repeating visions are replaced by mumbles of one word…::

    “Yeenoghu”

::Jenni cheerfully breaks into song and skips around the tree house as Baba sleeps.::

“Gnolls rip hearts from our bodies…
I hide in secret with Jonni…
    Worms fall from monster skin…
We try and try but do not win.
    La. La. La.”

  • Cera follows Katya out of her Tree. Gone for the moment is her usual everbright and lopsided smile, relaced with worry and a sadneess. She wished very much she understood more of what was producing these visions and why they haunted her mentor and mother figure for so long. For the moment Cera did the only thing she could, quietly follow Katya around the Camp, making sure nothing else happened to her in this state.

::Baba Katya sobs softly in middle of the night drenched in sweat holding her head. Little Jenni and Elera swiftly move to her side. With eyes closed, Baba rocks back and forth mumbling.::

Fire stones and dust. They burn my eyes.
Soaring fiends cover our corpses like flies.
Can’t you hear them? They come.
With every beat of that drum.
Deceivers. Tricksters. Closer with each sound.
Twins, once thought to protect, now cut us down.
Remember your days dancing in the sun.
    ::quiet laughter::
Savor the eternal rest where we will live as one.

Gems from the sky scorch the land.
Gathered feverishly for a divine plan.
In the shadows a colleague schemes.
Our death at his hands, a nightmarish dream.
Twins take our bodies to the graves.
His soul begs for redemption as he prays.
    Demons laugh as they fall.
Rising again as we watch in awe.

::Baba continues to laugh quietly then slowly passes out mumbling the same words over and over. Elera and Jeni comfort Baba Katya as best they can over the next few days hoping she escapes her nightmares that seem to have her trapped.::

::Baba walks out of her tree house around the camp crying and repeating her visions. She sits periodically rocking back and forth then continues to walk around the camp repeating her visions crying to the sky. She doesn't notice anyone who talks to her.::

  • ::Arandor ducks into Katya's tree house one morning, offering whatever help he can to Elera and Jeni as Katya rests… He inquires as to Baba Katya's condition and of any new visions she may of had::

"Gems from the sky… I wonder if it has anything to do with the gem powder the Gnolls leave behind..."

::He listens closely as Elera repeats the cryptic words, wondering as she speaks of twins, nodding along knowingly as she speaks of demons rising… He thanks Elera for her time afterwards and apologizes for disturbing them, leaving quietly he goes to seek out Tala to see if she has found out anything more.::

  • ::Elera wakes one morning to see Baba standing with glazed over, empty eyes, dark circles enhance her milky complexion. Her hands shake and she whispers another vision through parched lips. Jeni helps Baba to bed and gives her something to eat and drink while listening closely.::

::Baba mumbles her vision over and over and walks aimlessly around her tree house at all hours of the night only sleeping in the morning.::

"I have heard nothing of those who were kidnapped… I am sorry... I will do my best to look into this immediately..."

::he goes silent for a few moments before speaking again.::

"I'm not sure if the matters are related in any way… But it seems to me the Gnolls have been angered, and I 'might' know why... In the meantime, I'll do what I can to help... Please let me know if you have any need."

::He bows his head to Katya and Elera respectfully then turns to the others to see what they all have to say…::
