Alanor Darcillian
-
Alanor was borne to an officer in the Peltarch guard and the frail, pale, black haired daughter of local merchants. Analor's father, Alagon, was a man of above-average stature and an accomplished swordsman and marksman, though his depth of character and thoughtfulness were lacking, at least by all appearances. Alagon raised Alanor, an only child, according to the strict values of the guard, and imposed upon him to study the arts of warfare, hoping the boy could overcome his average stature with skill, and follow in his footsteps.
Alanor began exhibiting a keen intellect, and an intellectual curiosity at a young age, but his father strictly forbade any type of formal education. However, Alanor always suspected that his mother, Yomella, was a practitioner of magic, although he never saw any solid evidence in this regard, excepting an unnatural light that emminated from her room some nights when Alagon was away.
Alanor continued under his father's tutilage, more working as an errand boy for the guard than anything else, until he was 16. In that year, that a caravan of gypsies camped outside Peltarch for several weeks. One morning, Alanor awoke to find his mother gone, and his father in a rage. Alagon beleived that the gypsies had kidnapped Yomella, as she had been seen near the gypsie camp shortly before her disappearance. Alagon's superior officers, as well as several priests, thought that unlikely.
Nonetheless, after five days without word of Yomella, Alagon and three of his closest friends in the guard pursued the gypsies. They never returned.
Without family or gainful occupation, Alanor took his family's few valuable belongings, and left Peltarch, making the perilous journey to Jiyyd, where he had heard people were free to pursue their intellectual pursuits free of violent interference.
Alanor at once took an interest in magic, and the languages of are the arcane arts. He found that he had much natural ability in both. He made his living tagging along with Legion patrolls to scavange orc loot, hunting, and sleeping in the public square or a campsite, often appearing as a beggar because he spent all his spare coin on acquiring arcane texts and parchments.
