Lieza

  • Character name: Lieza Aylown
    Player login name: Nahvus

Lieza grew up in a village, the youngest daughter of a farmer family. As a young girl her dream was to leave the village and become a great warrior. Her older brother belonged to the village guard, and he gladly taught his younger sister how to use weapons and armour. At the age of sixteen, though, Lieza fell in love with a boy her age, named Grathar. Grathar was apprentice to the village blacksmith. They started seeing each other; and finally their relationship became serious. In the end, Lieza’s dreams about leaving the village were crushed when she found out she was pregnant. As she was a rather practical-minded girl, she soon got over her disappointment and started looking forward to their wedding, and the birth of the baby. The baby was a girl, and she was named Aezia.

As the years passed, Lieza grew used to the life of a wife and a mother. Aezia grew up fast, and turned out to be a sweet, lively girl with a beautiful singing voice. When the old blacksmith retired, Grathar became the village blacksmith, and Lieza sometimes took part in his work. Sometimes late at night, Lieza would stop and wonder how her life might have turned out, had she not stayed in the village. A strange bitterness would overwhelm her and she would think of her mother, a worn-out woman, who at her deathbed had said to Lieza: “Do what you want girl, don’t let anyone stop you or you’ll end up as me…”

Grathar had always liked a drink now and then, but about the time Aezia was ten years old, he started to drink more and more. Lieza tried to talk some sense into the man, but with little effect. Grathar would only get angry, and they would have a fight. Lieza never backed down before Aezia came to them, crying, and told them to stop yelling at each other. As a way to control her anger, Lieza started to go hunting. She had a good friend, who was an experienced fighter and taught Lieza more about weapons and fighting. Together, they would drive away some bandits, or goblins, and Lieza always enjoyed this immensely.

Aezia became a beautiful young woman, who could sing and play the flute. When she was seventeen, a group of wandering bards came into the village. When they left a week later, Aezia went with them. Although it was difficult for Lieza to let Aezia go, she remembered what she had dreamed of when she herself had been young. She wanted to give her daughter the chance she had missed. When Aezia had gone, Grathar started to drink even more than before. Often he would start in the morning, finally passing out in the afternoon. Lieza had to do practically all the work by herself. She was becoming more and more frustrated.

Finally, one evening Grathar came home from the tavern drunk as usual. When Lieza, once again told him to stop drinking and to think about others apart from himself, he suddenly seized a sword and started swinging it around, yelling: “You bitch, bitch, you ruined my life, you pushed Aezia away!” Lieza tried to grab the sword, but it slashed at her arms and face. When Grathar saw the blood, he collapsed on the floor and begged for Lieza to forgive him. Lieza took the sword. For a moment or two, she thought of hitting Grathar with the blade. Then she dropped the blade and walked out. The next day, Lieza told Grathar that he had gone too far, and that she was leaving him. Grathar tried to beg and even cried, but Lieza had made up her mind.

Lieza gathered her things, said goodbye to her friends and left the village. After wandering about for almost a year, she arrived in the town of Norwick and decided to stay there at least for a while. Now, at the age of 37, she wants to make something of herself before she gets too old. She does not want to be remembered merely as the blacksmith’s wife.
