Gavarhak Kull

  • Gavarhak's tribe trace back to a time of strife, generations ago, villages existed in harmony of the forest of Yniol, the villages were human barbarian settlements, living care free of the world outside their forest. There they led their lives in peace. This was not to last though, war came to the lands in the form of a horde of orcs that swept like a plague over the mountains and rivers and into the forests burning and pillaging all that they cam across. The villages of Yniol suffered greatly, being raided many times with hundreds of slaves taken away by the orcs. The villages although appeared routed rose up against the orc menace and in a mighty thrust drove the orcs out from Yniol; orcs fell from the forest like water off a leaf. But what they left behind would leave a scar on the land for generations to come. A settlement, left over from the camps of the orcs comprising of the slavers and their human captors spawned a new village comprising of many half orcs. Hidden away from the human tribes the half orcs of Yniol kept from their neighbours for many years silently watching from afar.

A dark day dawned on the world as the passing of a violent storm left many trees toppled creating new clearings in the forest. The half orcs of Yniol had been preparing for war and with the dawning of the day they rose from their slumber and striding over the ashes of death they marched to battle. The new clearings filled with the new menace as the sounds of their chanting echoed through the ancient woods. The villages of Yniol were ill prepared for the coming slaughter, hails of bolts came crashing down over the treetops as hundreds of the barbarians charged the suffering defenders, axes hewed the skulls of their enemies in two and spears impaled their victims to trees, the blood of many stained the soil red as the villages were crushed one by one in a tide of battle that swept the forest clean of the humans.

Generations passed and the half orcs of Yniol lived in solitude within the forest, sending out the occasional trader for those rare supplies, and this is where the half orc Gavarhak steps in. The son to the town’s smith Gavarhak spent many days of his youth learning about the various weapons and how to use them. This later developed into helping his father with the forge itself, here he developed many of the burns that have stained his fingers and will till his dieing day tarnishing his skin a dull black around his fingers. While other orcs like his brother would go hunt, Gavarhak, would not always join them, staying in the smith learning and training with the different weapons. Because of this he has fewer scars on his body then most, the only prominent markings being the tattoos of his tribe that stretch across his body.

As Gavarhak grew, as did the problems of his village, venturing outside the walls became more and more hazardous as fewer and fewer hunts made the forest full of dangers. A day came when something had to be done, the drastic action was taken that the village would disband, the forest floor thundered as hundreds of orcs marched to their own destinies, and Gavarhak left the forest with few possessions but a stout heart. The few times the traders had come back many of them had spoken of the lands of Narfell, some even left to settle there. Hearing these stories Gavarhak was intrigued, and wanted to learn more of this land.

A year of hard toil across barren wastes, though forests and over mountains, he finally reached his destination. Finding himself in the village of Norwick, Gavarhak settled into the inn for a hard earned rest. His first day in the town of Norwick was something on an eventful one, while wandering around the village he came across a fellow half orc by the name of Kull. This was a half orc who seemed very happy to meet one of his brethren, he showed Gavarhak the small sights of the town, including who to ask for a job from, although he was refused, both times it was the thought that counted.

Impressed by the fighting abilities of Gavarhak, Kull began to speak at length about the Troff Legion, he continued on until he asked if Gavarhak would join him inside the legion with promises being equipped, trained and of meeting other orcish brothers. With little else going for him Gavarhak agreed to the offer, he was shown around the headquarters by Kull’s captain and told that he would soon be contacted if he were to be accepted into the Troff Legion. And so Gavarhak waited, often sitting by the entrance to Ralisnswood with a bottle of ale from the inn nearby. It is here he met a human by the name of Deacon. At first Gavarhak was hostile, having been brought up to despise most humans as weak, self loving fools who thought to much. But after a sound beating Gavarhak knew where his place was. Seeing the usefulness of Gavarhak though deacon as well offered him a job, still waiting on the legion Gavarhak gave them up on the spot accepting the offer from Deacon, and this is where his story in Narfell takes off.
