Tavern Rumors of Peltarch

  • Lately people have begun to go missing, with no real connection between any of those who have vanished into thin air. Men, women, children, the elderly, the occasional military man, even a baker. Nobody is quite sure where they went, or where in the city they were even taken, with those as far as the farmlands reporting the occasional missing person. And weirder yet, some people speak of skin being found. Human skin.

  • Amidst other more or less wide-spread rumours, one makes mention of a peculiar device placed inexplicably at the commons by (of course) a gnome. Said device was then fiddled with by (of course) a bard, resulting in a localized implosion, sucking everyone in the vicinity in and off to parts unknown! The party, which included princess Fisher herself, returned with sluggish steps some hours later, absolutely covered in blood, soot and the remains of some strange luminescent goo.

  • Some really bored commoners discuss today about how a bird was left in the middle of the commerce district by a Cerulean, who claimed very strongly that it was not in fact used for spying. This bird used for spying existed for about a few hours, before someone literally melted it with acid. The Cerulean put a bounty on the head of whoever did it, offering 100,000,000 before City Hall had to step in and remind him that they can't pay that much. And also don't particularly care.

Rumors spread that Lady Varya has been seen out of armor for the last few days ago since the fabled trip of her and others defeating a Balor in the lost city. Those who heard specifics may have also heard that both she and Jonni had fallen that day.

When people ask her about it, she politely dismisses it as nothing and that the greater good won that day, claiming she's thankful Chauntea allowed her to return.

  • The latest rumor comes after City Hall was briefly locked down due to a fire. The official word is it was an accident, but rumor has it that in the middle of a busy day it was lit ablaze by some stranger. Many books were damaged, but most of the library was salvaged thanks to the aid of some guards, some of who were forced to go to the temple with severe burns, and adventurers.

Why would someone light up the library? A hatred of books? Or maybe to cover their tracks? Every drunk has their opinion.

  • A few strange sights befell Peltarch recently, all in short succession.

Firstly it was said that a strange and foul sound, like a metallic guitar was heard from within the Feasthall. Guards attempted to enter but the door was eventually unlocked by a one armed elf. Rumours state that sounds of battle were then heard from within. When the same adventurers left shortly after, the hall appeared to have been flooded.

Moments later, reports are heard of damage to the Peltarch theatres stage however none were seen in the ruins of the stage, chairs and benches all laid destroyed.

Then strangest of all, it is heard a portal had opened in the commons and undead poured through before the mighty hero's of Peltarch entered themselves, returning shortly after.

    A strange day!

  • Rumours speak of the return to Narfell (and indeed Toril itself) of the fabled Star Harpy, a spelljammer known to make sporadic visits to the area and at times offer employment and the chance to travel the void to the bold and daring. This time, after the traditional crash landing, the Star Harpy took off with a small number of volunteers. The ship returned many days later, the adventurer ranks now bolstered by several thin and ragged looking individuals of various races - elves, humans, dwarves and even orcs. Upon landing, some found their own way while others gladly accepted the hospitality of the Bardic College, under Master Nate Wingates guardianship.

  • *Commoners strolling near the Peltarch Commons last night were astonished to see a giant cow walk into the center of town and then calmly stroll into the Commons itself. Shortly afterwards, it suddenly turned to stone. A Cerulean who was nearby cast Detect Magic and declared that it was Flesh to Stone spell. When elven elder Raryldor cast Stone to Flesh on it, it triggered a fireball spell, which blew the cow to smithereens and scattered raw meat all around the commons. A little later, a burning badger ran into town, and then blew up in the Commons, destroying most of the benches and scattering more raw meat. "What next?" someone was head to mutter. *

There seems to be talks of Lady Varya and the Dwarf Thorin working together of late, returning with frost-covered armor from the cold caves. Under the paladina's arm, the pelt of what looks like a juvenile-young adult white dragon looks to be carried under arm.

  • Rumors of losses at the farmlands at the hands of an orcish horde are spread through out taverns. Some claim these orcs were no regular orcs, shambling around and looking rotten, even aided by mysterious hooded humans. These are just rumors, of course. The official word is it was just an orcish attack, nothing unusual. Not in these trying times.

  • Rumours circulate about the zaniness of gnomes, two in particular, who according to scattered reports built a gigantic and volatile rocket, designed to launch high up into the air to a "sky island". It is also said that a number of adventurers chose to climb onto the explosive device and were spotted clinging on for dear life as the rocket soared up through the clouds and out of view! Whatever happened next is the source of much wild speculation.

  • A loud explosion rocked the Commerce district recently, gouts of flame emerging from the small orphanage run by the half-orc Grigna. Despite the floor within being collapsed into the sewers below, Grigna and the childen were all unharmed, having been successfully evacuated from the building shortly before the event.

A group of city employees and adventurers were witnessed climbing out of the hole, all sporting many burns, bruises and cuts, though upon Reyhenna Jorino's strong shoulder rested the limp body of a powerfully built man, green scales glimpsed past a ragged Far Scout uniform.

Isolde Garibaldi makes sure to spread the word to any that will listen that two more saboteurs have been caught of late: the poisoner at the tourneyground, a woman going by the name "Miasma" and the explosives expert "Pyre". According to the bardess, there's likely still trouble remaining on the horizon.

Word has it that Maeve and Eric had approached the commons, speaking with Sargeant Autumn of the defender archers, lady Varya Tiller , and Raryldor about how the grain shipment finally made its way to High Hold. A handsome young body guard of Maeve that goes by the name of Eric, also seemed to discuss and show enthusiasm towards him joining the bard college and staying as a resident.

Though it may dismay some as heard from High Hold as well as the jewel, others might take solace that the rift between both sides looks to be closing, with old wounds healing as younger generations come together peacefully.

  • A women in black and purple armour.. Who is often seen around Peltarch covered in dung or mud, falling over or banging her head was seen returning from the giants territory with the head of a GIANT giant on her back. As she got to the campfire, she is seen removing the cooking pot and placing the giant head onto the fire, letting it burn and char. She seems oddly satisfied.. Certainly a strange and disturbing sight

  • *A strange tale was told by patrons of the Meremaid. A lawyer, none other than the one who recently got charges against a dock worker settled, was eating dinner (some said it was fish) when he began choking and fell to the floor gagging. A waitress screamed and several people, including some city officials, came running in. One Cerulean healer examined him and declared that he was a victim of mushroom poisoning. Peltarch Defender Lt. Reyhenna Jorino quickly ran to obtain an antidote after which Jonni Aelthasson performed emergency surgery to open a passage to his stomach into which the antidote, mixed with water, was poured.

The lawyer was revived and healed, for which he was very thankful. Katarina Dupre had all the other fish dishes in the tavern removed, though no others seemed to be affected. One waitress admitted to fainting and having her keys stolen. A tall woman was seen running from the front door with a set of keys shortly before the lawyer fell ill. The City officials seemed certain they knew who the culprit was, and that this was definitely an assassination attempt.*

Rumor has it that a dangerous criminal was captured by the adventurers and city employees, including the Princess, Jonni, Varya, Silver, Shesarai, Tyrus, and Ethuil. Though it hasn't made public, the group of adventurers seemed to return from an exhaustive trip, many covered in acid burns

Confused patrons of the Lucky Ferret emerge from their dank sanctuary at the sound of intense, hip thrust provoking lute music echoes from the commons. They spot two confused looking adventurers wandering north through the docks district talking about some nefarious plot brewing in the sewers.

Those too intoxicated to find their way back into the Ferret after an hour or so observe the very same adventurers talking about group cult sacrifice and omox demons as the two walk back towards the commons.

  • After being escorted into the city a few days prior by a group of adventurers, a Wavebreaker caravan laden with food that had been unloading outside the south gates is seen loading back onto wagons at the western gates owned by the Calashite traders from High Hold. As the wagons slowly make their way out to the beach and along the road to High Hold they are joined by a large company of Defenders wearing the insignia of the Loyal Fists and Archangels for the long trip up into the mountains.

  • With the latest pamphlets of the S.O.S. circulating in every district, talks take place about the absence of The Voice of the People who has gone very silent from quite some time. Rumor has it that Lady Kathea Snyders is nowhere to be seen, even more rumors circulate from drunkard to sober people about how, if alive, she must be reclusive inside her Residential District home, or that maybe she's not alive but nothing has been announced to contain the masses distress.

At any rate, people is speaking between them, incoherently like the masses sometimes do, but there seems not to be any Voice of the People to either echo nor make them coherent.

  • A recent celebratory feast at the tourney grounds turned to tragedy after several people took suddenly ill. Despite swift action by a number of high profile adventurers and city employees, deaths could not be prevented. The food, originating from the orcish Many-Arrows Keep, seems to have been the source of the problem and interrim Herald Isaac Thaddeus the target for much of the citizens ire. Despite the Herald's assertions that the food had been checked thoroughly, emotions ran high over the tragic event.

Some time later, the autonomist splinter organization known as the Sons of the Senate were seen handing out free food in the docks, alongside their distinctive badges. After all the food had been distributed, a ruckus occurred between said Sons and Crown agents, resulting in at least one person being dragged off to Gaol by the guard.

Isolde Garibaldi, well known friend of the Princess Fisher, has since been vocal and insistant in spreading word that the poisoning of the tourney ground food supply was in fact the work of select members of the Sons of the Senate, subsequently tracked down and neutralized. She adds to the organization's lists of crimes the poisoning and abduction of Autonomist leaders Berlinne Toews and Arch Weyland, the explosion at the Seafarer silo, the multiple murders at warehouse 8, along with direct attacks towards beloved king George and Princess Fisher.

"I understand well the strive for liberty; I understand that some are tired of waiting and to them this cause feels right and just. But I ask you, how do you justify abduction, murder, the willful bringing about of starvation of the very masses this group claims to fight for? Support the Autonomists, and you lend weight and might to their demands! Support the Sons of the Senate and your cause is tainted by a string of heinous crimes."
