Character Name: Gerard du LorraineBorn in Zhentil Keep in the respected du Lorraine family, Gerard grew in a harsh and demanding setting, under the responsibility of carrying his family's name to the highest standards.
From very early ages, his father, Philip du Lorraine, had introduced Gerard in teachings on Bane's dogma. Philip had the fervent wish to make a noteworthy and feared priest out of his son, so that the family's legacy was secured, and an influential position of power ensured for the future of the dynasty in Zhentil Keep.
However, young Gerard had showed a manifest unwillingness to follow the path of a priest. Against his father's wishes, the boy had set diferent goals for himself. It had all begun when he was introduced to Marcus Darksteel, weapon master and Captain of the Zhent army, that Gerard had found a passion in the training and mastering of weapons and combat styles.
Even though Marcus was stern and severe, the determination, dedication and interest shown by Gerard in learning the use of every weapon variety created certain master-apprentice bond. The training sessions were harsh, often ended with Gerard broken and face against the mud in a rainy night, but everytime he rose again to continue with his one passion: mastering the art of combat with as many weapons as he could wield. He often skipped his teachings at The Black Altar to continue his training at the Battlehall. When Marcus wasn't about, he practiced by himself, straining his body to its limits.
Marcus unleashed the potential in Gerard when he noticed that he wasn't only strong and sturdy, but also deft and nimble. For a tall and strong man like Gerard, it wasn't easy at all to be that mobile and elastic. And there was something else. He was ambidexter.
Using that rare set of abilities and conditions, Marcus shaped Gerard into a Reaver, an elite shock warrior whose function in a battlefield is to ravage through the enemy lines mercilessly with brute force, but also with cunning and precission. For that, he chose to teach him to master the dual use of large weapons, putting emphasis on one-and-a-half-hand swords, or bastard swords.
By then, Gerard had completely abandoned the priestly teachings at the Black Altar to great disgust of his father, that saw his legacy ruined by the foolish whim of his son. The thought of ending his life to be done with that shame did cross his mind, but still his child, he decided to simply get him off his face to not see him again.
One morning, Gerard received news that he had to pack up to part to a new destination. No explanations were given and even though Gerard demanded an answer, he never obtained it. He never even could see his father one last time before he was shipped to Narfell, where he was to meet Bernard du Lorraine, his uncle, and pledge his services to him.
