2012 - Peltarch Elections

  • _As voting continues, early polling shows that Talindra and Maria are doing well, Dwin and Rary not so much so, and Moigan and Senma are polling extremely badly.

The people talk amongst themselves about who they'd like to see get on the Senate, as well as who they voted for, and who they'd dearly love to see NOT get in, or even better, be removed from office._

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The Election Campaign is hereby closed. No more speeches are permitted either for or against the Candidates.

Those citizens of the Jewel who have registered themselves to vote are to attend their nearest Guardhouse and complete a copy of this form!

Once it is completed, you place it in the ballot box, so that your vote may be counted.

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Let it hereby be known that all Senatorial Candidates have one last chance to speak before the people, on the night before Election day. A stage will be assembled before City Hall, and all Candidates may speak, but they must speak for themselves.

We ask at this time that they be respectful of the situation in Peltarch, and speak to the people of their own desires for the future, and why they should be elected, and not attack other Candidates.

    Long live the Jewel!

  • HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

The Lighthouse Temple and the Temple of the Triad wish to make it known that they do not favour any of the Candidates for the Elections, and are remaining politically neutral.

They also ask that we take a moment to pray to the goodly gods, that the people will be guided in wisdom in the days and weeks to come, and that the rain will cease before more lives are lost.

  • OOC: FINAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

If you are someone taking part in the current Election Campaigns, you have 36 hours from the time of this post to get any further actions, speeches, or events to me.

After that, I'll be cutting things off to finalise the elections. If you wish to do something off your own back (ie, post it yourself) you may, but I won't be able to give approval for anything that costs gold towards the elections, which means no more Galas, Rallies, Criers, Flyers, and so on. Your actions in the streets, on the Rant Stand, in pubs and inns, etc, may affect yours and others positions in the voting, but they're informal actions rather than formal.

If you have any questions about this, don't hesitate to contact me.

Also, please do not send me your votes until the 13th of November!

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Sir Mariston Thel has resigned from the Senate, and now stands as a Candidate for the Senate so that the people may vote on his future. Whether he is elected is up to you, the people of the Jewel.

You will hear from him shortly.

    LONG LIVE THE JEWEL!

  • IT'S NOT VOTING DAY YET!

That's the 13th of November. Sending me your votes now won't really help you if you change your mind, there's still another 4-5 days of campaigning left.

  • VOTING FAQs

Where does it say how to cast a vote as a PC?
Right here! On voting day, you send me a PM with your characters name and their four votes.

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Due to the stepping down of Richard Hardin from the Election Campaign, the Rat Master General of Peltarch has put his name forward as a Senatorial Candidate.

    Long live the Jewel!

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

General Neverith has met with the Magistrates and at this time requests that all the citizens of Peltarch bring their Citizenship papers with them to their local guard house so that we can confirm the number of peoples living in our fair city prior to the election.

This is important so that we can ensure a free and fair election. Any without Citizenship papers will be unable to vote for those who will defend the Jewel as a Senator.

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The following candidate has put his name forward for the Senate:

    Raryldor of Corellon.

All places for the current round of elections are now closed.

    Long live the Jewel!

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The following two Candidates have put their name forward for the Senate:

Chadwick Whyte of the Seafarers Guild

Richard Hardin, son of Wesley Hardin, of the Wavebreakers Guild

    One candidacy position remains open.

    Long live the Jewel!

  • HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

Due to the unexpected retirement of Senator Hardin, the Election Campaigns have been extended for another three months.

Furthermore, we will accept up to three more Candidates for the Senate, but they must apply before the end of the month.

    Long life the Jewel!

//Extending things a little because of the situation in the US, at least one Candidate is currently without power.

New Election day is Tuesday the 13th of November
Date for new Candidate cut offs is 4th of November

  • After the speeches are over, the crowd disperses, but not before some rough polling can be done.

    @5598eb683a:

IF AN ELECTION WAS HELD TODAY, YOU WOULD VOTE FOR…

    Senma: 45%
    Dwin: 28%
    Talindra: 52%
    Marak: 25%
    Maria: 30%
    Jahn: 42%
    Miranda: 45%
    Rhyla: 33%

NB: The percentages add up to 300% because there are 3 seats.

//From here on, what happens to candidates campaigns is up to them. If you are a candidate, you will need to PM me with what you wish to do, confirm cost, and once it is approved, you post it up yourself in the relevant thread, which is stickied and linked to this thread.

I will provide an update at this time next week as to how the percentages are going, based on what actions the candidates take.

  • _It is a fine day in the Jewel, asides from the crowds gathered outside the Town Hall to make a ruckus about the current debate in the Senate. Seeing the opportunity, several workers begin setting up a stage to the side, and ignore the crowd.

Eventually much of the crowd stops chanting and calling, and watch what's happening, the joy of a new sideshow distracting them from their original goal.

Perhaps an hour after they begin, the stage is assembled, and the Senatorial Candidates begin to file out, one at a time with Defender escorts_

  • Campaigning details:

((OOC: I'm using the same numbers as Cao did last election, they seemed to work well. Any questions, please PM me.))

_Those who wish to run for the Senate must normally be eloquent of speech and well respected. In addition, they must have funding to back up their idealism, as there's no such thing as a free meal.

Below are the main methods of engaging with the populace during an election campaign, their comparative effectiveness, and their cost. If you are unsure, please contact the Herald._

    @b9aae92ce7:

Speaking Engagement/Letter Writing - 200 gold per letter (addresses a particular group)
-Message conveyed to particular group, with an average of 25% of the group receiving it in some form.

Engagement (gala or party; invitation only event aimed at a specific group) is 5,000 gold
-Affects a specific group, obviously; may conversely affect competing groups. 75% of the group is like to receive the campaign message via this method.

    Written Fliers/Signs/Banners - 100 gold (per block/street canvassed)
-Effectiveness will vary depending on district and typical literacy level of residents, as well as amount spent.
(Total District Costs; 1500 for Civic, 3000 for Commerce and 5500 for Docks)

Criers and Bards - 200 gold (per crier), 400 gold (per bard)
-Criers are often used in Peltarch to relay messages to the populace, so they are used to hearing them, criers with bardic training can also be hired to give the message more flash to it (though remember certain groups may prefer criers to bards or vice-versa).
(Total district costs- 2000 for Civic, 3000 for Commerce and 4000 for docks, double these for Bardic training, but you can also feel free to mix and match and even specify which type of crier goes to what parts of the city, just PM me).

Rally (in a particular district) - 10,000 gold
-Affects on a district wide basis.

    General Speech - 500gp
-The money ensures a crowd gathers, but not that it will be a big enough affair to be talked about much across the district (like a rally is). effectiveness is therefore small enough, but at least it breaks the literacy barrier. 3-6% of a district may receive the message to varying degrees this way.

For other campaign activities candidates may PM me and I will inform them of costs. The above methods are related to getting your campaign messages HEARD, whether they are well received or not depends on what the NPCs concerned actually think of it once they've heard it.
