The Whiterose Chronicles

  • A postman arrives in Peltarch Via horseback, he hands the guard at the gate a sealed letterletter. The seal is of a rose, made in black wax

" 'ere is for Mister Raphael 'iterose, if you please."

** later that evening, Rafe is sitting in the Common room of the Mermaid, reading the letter. He is kicked back, with an amused smirk**

    ~Written in swirly handwriting~

    To a dreadfully IRRESPONSIBLE brother,

Raphael! It has been two WHOLE months since you and Father had your argument! TWO months since you left for Peltarch, and not ONE letter for your sister? Not even a line, brother! No, not ONE syllable for your worried sister, who is slaving over father’s estate. The ONLY reason I know you got there alright, is because of the man I had watching for you.. Cyric take you brother!

Father is doing well, he took your leaving less hard than I had imagined. He hopes you are doing well for yourself. Obviously he cant write to you, what with his hand pains an all. Not that is any of your business, but the vineyards are doing well and the weather seems to be holding good for an excellent crop this season. The riders are all on alert at the moment, apparently an orc war party is moving through the area. The Council doesn’t seem too worried they will attack Nesme, but you never know with these things. Oh how I worry.

Politics around the city are usual, I suppose. Council woman Sellstone is having an affair with the smith, Charles, and it seems Charles’ wife is unaware.. I wonder if I can leverage Sellstone’s secret on her for a tax exemption this year?? She wouldn’t dare resist.

Oh, Jonathan, that Cleric of Lathander you so enjoy, well he is going off to join the crusade or some such nonsense. I think he is an idiot, throwing his life away for “The order.” I swear, I have no idea why you are so fond of him. At least my friends actually have a willful purpose in life, But, think again, you do go on with your morale code and all that. You would be much more successful, brother, if you would use what is laid before you. Like the situation with Sellstone,. You wouldn’t even have thought to use the affair and her position on the council to better the vineyards.

You have NO idea how RELIEVED I am to know you made it there in one piece. Do remember to not get yourself killed, AND to write your poor sister. Father sends his regards.

    Your Sister,

    Ceasara Elizabeth Rose

** Whiterose finishes the letter and folds it, putting it away before he lays down for the evening**

  • THe Lady Rose sits at her chamber desk, reading a letter. Her chambermaid Sarah sits on the ottoman beside the desk awaiting for her lady's response.

    ** Ceasara reads the letter**

    ~In neat cursive~

To an amusingly over worried sister,

Oh heavens E. you worry too much. I told you not to expect a letter for some time, and that ~ I ~ would write you when I could. Because you seemed SO concerned in your letter, my trip was fine. I stayed in Silvery moon a few days after leaving Nesme. I stopped at various other cities along the way as well. I met a band of Elves in the woods West of Silvery moon, they traveled with me for several days before out paths parted. Elves are such wonderful creatures E., nothing at all like you. They enjoy fun and are quite fond of nature and the finer sides of magic.

T’is good to hear that Father’s vineyards are doing well and that he is not worried. I’m sure the orcs will pass without a fuss, but do remember the escape routes from the Estate. If those orcs come within 5 miles of the Estate, you get Father and the servants out of there Elizabeth. Remember to gather the deeds and accounting books as well. AND (I might kill you if you don’t) be sure to remember mother’s amulet. I realize it is no good to you but I would quite like to insure its safety.

Peltarch is wonderful E., you wouldn’t like it too much. Or maybe you would, the political arena here seems quite active. There are gardens, and a theatre. The harbor, oh you should see it E. The walls here, they are double gated, thicker than nesme’s, and guarded by some of the finest warriors I have met. There is a “legion” based near town, it is a group of soldiers sworn to do battle on the side of Good. I met two of them, and Elvin sorceress named Re’Rith, who was chasing down some Drow. As well as a hafling named Benji. You might like the Captain of the BlackSails though; Sabre seems like a fiery woman with a “purpose.”

I am glad to hear that Jonathan is headed off on his pilgrimage, how it pained me to leave without knowing if he would get his prayer answered. Helm watch over him.

And as for morale codes and purposes, you are the one who lacks a purpose. You are self serving, taking from the weak, only to better yourself. You wouldn’t use your magic to help lost child, if his parents were rich or had some way of leveraging your political interests higher. E., life isn’t just about you, love. Take a moment, smell a flower, watch the waterfalls. Spend a day at the food bank, you can see. You are gifted, sister. You could do much good if you would only recognize your potential.

    Stay Vigilant,

    Raphael Whiterose

Ceasara angrily rises from her desk, nocking her chair over, and storms out of her room. Yelling nonesense and about stupid men. Her maid tidys up the room, scraping the white wax, from the broken seal, into the rubish basket.
