Checkpoints in the pass?

  • _Senator Ronan, whenever he's forced to walk the pass, no longer gives the Hoarrans that assault him lethal force. Instead, some Hoarran patrols might find one of their more ambitious young warriors held via big green hand. If he is not attacked, he simply walks by and leaves them be.

If asked for a toll of some sort, he simply pays it and is soon on his way. The larger patrols that catch him and decide to attack, he uses subdual magics, never killing them… he assuming the other Hoarrans nearby will come and take their comrades in to be tended to.

Never does he taunt them or insult them. Defending himself without a word if needed, and offering greetings to the Hoarrans that leave him be._

((Just want to clarify this in case a DM sees me in the pass fighting the spawns near the safe path. Ronan doesnt "kill" them, just subdues them if they charge him. Trying to keep the transitions a little safer too :P))

  • ::In the case that the mage actually dispells that very specfic one spell out of the dozen she carries, she conjures a huge water elemental to take her out of the water::

::Edited to reflect the events after LD's post::

  • A Hoarran mage watches her waterwalking one day.. shrugs and dispels her while over the water. He is kind enough to offer a rope to the armored priestess if she'd like help out…

  • _::The Lathanderite high priestess Rith Phoenixfeather can be seen every now and then traveling north and south taking the shortest path to her destination. While using numerous wards and blessings, she holds no weapon in her hands.

Normally the shortest path takes her through this "claimed" hoaran territory, which she travels through without hesitation, simply waterwalking across the river, near the broken bridge.

Whatever hoarans she spots, she ignores, or even greets politely if they come within a reasonable range, including the mages and scouts that her True Seeing blessings reveal easily and instantly.

However, when assaulted, she offers opportunity to halt the hostiliy. If disregarded, she acts in legit self-defense with brutal efficiency, dealing non-lethal damage whenever possible. For the unfortunate situations in which the hoarans do fall, she solemnly tends their souls to afterlife, taking none of their belongings as she continues her travels.

It's pretty clear that if the stubborn Dawnbringer isn't ceeding before Hell and Abyss in Jiyyd's conflict, she is not going to submit to a murderous band of brigands with delusions of grandeur::_

  • Vick watches as the runners scatter in different directions. In the end he follows none but heads toward Peltarch a thoughtful look on his face.

  • A well armoured and armed elf who’d been travelling north along the tree line had halted her progress in concern at some things her equally sharp eyes had picked up on and lingered to observe. From there she watched the proceedings, resuming her walk to Peltarch only after the messengers left for the south and north west.

  • A faintly amused smile at the choice of words… Always eager to hear Peltarch's opinions and decisions on its neighbors claims…

After the Senator departs, he stares at the five escorts Danielle sent to protect the Senator. Finally, he motions to a scribe who brings forward a number of scrolls from a case. Be useful, as he tosses the scrolls to them. Two of you to Norwick, swift as you can. Deliver those to their Chancellor. Two of you to Oscura, you'll have to find whatever tribune is feeling in charge this week. Deliver that for their council to discuss. As for you…. looking at the last. You can just run on back to Danielle and tell her that her time is running up, and let her know where the other four have been sent.

Waves them all off, and turns off to the scribe dealing with some other items.

  • _Adrian takes the map and packs it away carefully.
"It does indeed. Thank you for your time, Jonathan. The Senate will send you its response to your claim as soon as we decide on it. Until then, I wish you peace and fortune."

And with that, Adrian and his retinue set out back to the city, likely trying to avoid lingering too long and providing an all too tempting target for any aggressors._

  • I am guessing you want to discuss terms of surrender. Chuckles a moment before shaking his head, Just a jest. I'm assuming you are here to discuss borders of what we're claiming. I'm not a fool, and I will not be claiming more then we can hold, though I will be laying claim to some things you may want to dispute.

Gestures to the maps, which are now clearly marked in long lines.

The spider woods and gnoll woods of course we will claim, as the Cold Caves eventually. Those are outskirts. I will be moving occupying troops into the pass to guarantee safety. I am looking as far south as the hole that was once Sams Hill, and as far north as the entrance to Oscura. That is long term. The merchant passes are going well, so that may become an option we extend to all. It most certainly will, if we are allowed a peaceful return to all placed I have listed. Our response to trespassers will remain the same either way.

Rolls up the maps, holding them out to the Senator

    That answer your questions?

  • After a short file, Adrian arrives. Leaving his escort to do its thing, he moves up to the table.
"Ah, well met Jonathan. Thank you for receiving me here today, and I pray we will be able to make some headway without interruption this time. I assume you have been well informed as to the purpose of my visit?"

  • Sharp eyed men well armored and armed begin arriving at the northern checkpoint, where they set guard around a clear flat area. Those bothering with see invisibilty or true sight would see one Mage arriving with every five soldiers, obviously staying invisible. Finally a table is set up, and a man wanders north, spear being used more as a walking staff, and an almost constant small smile as if something is amusing him. He stands by the table and watches over those still checking wagons as if bored until a scribe begins unrolling maps across the table, and he turns to give full attention to the maps, beginning the long process of marking out what would appear from a distance to be either long troop movements, supply lines… or it could it possibly be borders finally?

  • *Vick wanders through, often mixed with the general hubub of activity, often as not a silent observer. His eyes constantly rove over the number and type of troops expanding in the pass.

  • As interest in the passes seems to increase from merchants, the numbers at the checkpoints seem to increase in number to handle volume. Those merchants unwilling to get a pass are being directed to take a longer trail elsewhere, those unable are worked out in trade.

  • Val chuckles and nods understandingly, then indicates that she'll return to check in a year or so, to see if they'll be able to offer such for her.

  • The group looks amongst themselves for a bit, before finally one of them steps forward…

Well… um. Begging your pardon, Miss, but we've only been told to be issuin' them out to merchant types for now. Kind of like a trial, you know? Hoping it helps ease some of the fears people been havin' thinking we're trying to be cutting trade off between Norwick an' Peltarch and all.

But we're hopin' it'll be working out real well, and well then we will be lookin' towards the trusty ones of the single types an' all...

Speakin' of single types, I got myself a cousin who's been looking for a good woman to settle him down, turns a little red and shakes his head, sorry Miss. Be forgettin' I said anythin' about that. I'm sure you could be doin' far better then 'im.

  • Upon seeing this, the singer Val Kyrie approaches the Hoarans who are offering passes, and enquires about a pass for an individual, namely, herself.
