    –-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"That was a great fair father." A young rusty brown hair child says as he and his father stroll home in the early night darkness, even through the darkness though the boys father, William could see the utter joy and happiness gleaming in the childs eyes, his child, Samuel, for he could not be a more proud father had he sired a prince. The small child meant the world to William, and indeed that was nearly the case, after the passing of his wife, the family had been required to sell their modest home near the centre of town for an even less modest shack on the outskirts.

"It's a shame it only come to town once a year isn't it Samuel." William casually replies as he smiles warmly down to his pride and joy. The sudden sound of quick footfalls ahead in the shadows stop William before his next words formed on his lips, thefts and muggings weren't common in this part of town, or the town as a whole for the most part, but they were certainly there. Not one to take chances with his son in tow, William places a fatherly hand across Samuel's chest, motioning him to a stop while scanning the darkness ahead for the source of those footfalls, unable to see anything William ushers his son to a shadow in front of one of the villa style homes that lined the streets. "Stay here for a moment son, I just need to check the street a little bit." William says reassuringly, tossling the 8 year olds hair while pursing his lips and pushing a finger to them to make sure Samuel knew to stay quiet. William moved off quietly into the darkness, content that his son was safe should anything happen, his eyes darting all around the dimly moonlit cobblestone street, the sound of scuffling feet to the left quickly draws his attention, eyes snapping over to the source of the sound, no sooner had his eyes fixed on a figure cloaked in shadow than a blow from his right staggered the well built man, instinctively he throws his elbow out hard, catching the assailant in the ribs and doubling him over. The man cloaked in shadows leaps forth from them, a glimmer coming from his right hand, a knife William figures and immediately focuses on that glimmer, drawing in his gut as the thief slashes for his stomach, not far enough though and a small cut opens up stretching from one side of his body to the other. Wincing but gritting his teeth, thoughts of his son running through his mind, William lets loose a powerful right hook, catching the thief right under the eye and sending him crashing to the ground in a heap, turning towards the first assailant William send a boot into the man's ribcage as he staggers to his hands and knees, doubling him over once more and shattering more than a few ribs. Looking quickly to the knife wielding man, William bends down and takes the knife from his hand and looks it over, thinking for a split second about slitting the man's throat, remembering his son is within sight William slides the knife inside his belt and begins to rise when a warm sensation washes over him, a forearm wrapping around his throat from behind as a third dark figure draws the knife from Williams back, only to thrust it back in over and over, rage seeming to wash over the thief as he stabs William repeatedly even after the man had slumped in his arms, obviously already dead.

In a dark corner further up the street a small child stares on as his father dies before his eyes, continues watching as that thief robs his father of every possession worth anything, continues staring as the murderer arouses his companions and the companions kicked the bloody corpse repeatedly before disappearing into the shadows, all the while tears stream down his cheeks, no anger at the thieves who took more than just his fathers possessions, just sadness.

10 years later, the memory of that fateful night still tugging at his mind, an 18 year old Samuel travels into a local tavern with a new purpose, a new awakening and a tribute to his father driving him, a wish to not forget the night his father died, but to tell the tale of his brave and fearless father to any ear that would listen, to spread the word of a hero lost to evil. Entering the bar the stunning young man nods to the tavern owner, an old friend, before pulling himself up onto the bar, a moment of nervous fluttering through him before the memory of his father seals his determination. Clearing his voice purposefully vocally before speaking in a dramatic fashion "My friends! Let me share with you the tale of a hero..."
