Character name: Cherry Amalith
Account name: Acme FallsUpon Cherry entering her fifteenth summer of life, Cherry's mother, Sakura, was finally beginning to relax in her fears for her children. Cherry's older brother, Galen, was a healthy, charming young man now. Most importantly he was NORMAL. No sorcerous ablities, no extra-planar voices in his head, no inexplicable temporal hop-scotch for him. One or more which have been borne by the last two generations of Amaliths, going back to Galen's and Cherry's maternal grandmother, Cera.
Since it also been years since Sakura's last "time hiccup" (Anything from time reversing on poor Sakura and Sakura lone or jumping into fast or slow motion or just being shoved into an alternate timeline altogether.), she thought the Amalith family curse was finally broken and would nae be passed onto a third generation. The only hold over was the harmless, lilac color of Cherry's hair.
…........................................................................................................
A balmy, sunny summer day in Silverymoon with birds chirping feintly all around, and the leaves of the city's ancient trees dancing in a light breeze. Just another day really, but such a beautiful on to be outside with friend-
"Cherry!! Cherrrrry... Cherry, hun. Stop daydreaming and get those dishes done. It's the last of your chores, so you can go out and find that boy? What's his name? Raaandell?" Sakura broke into her daughter's daydreaming to point back to the soapy plate she was barely sloshing around in the water.
Cherry sighed, drawing her attention away from the window back to the fair countenance of her mother and then down t the pile of dishes from not only breakfast but also supper the night before. "Moother! He's NOT my boyfriend! And all these dishe-"
"Aww but you two are so cute together, "Sakura could help smiling at her light-hearted ribbing of her daughter. Her face turning a little serious, "Anyway though, you are the one who decided to put off last night's dishes until after breakfast this morning. So there's no one to blame but yourself for the big pile you have to now."
Poor Cherry could only look longingly back out the window one last time before turning her full attetention relunctantly to the dirty dishes at hand....
....When the last clinked down on top of the others in the cupboard, every last one of them now clean, dried and put away, Cherry gave her mother a hug and strolled out the door.
Sakura called after Cherry, "Don't stay out too long, you're brother will be home toight! We're having a special dinner!"
Cherry just waved a hand and hollered without looking back, "Okay, Ma!" Just like that she gone down the street, disappearing past the trees and other houses. Looking around, Cherry took in deep inhaltions of the smells of summer all around her, it was good as she imagined it to be when she daydreaming back over the dishes Off her mind wandered once more, adventuring through places she had only heard her mother and father tell her about or that she had read about in her learning. In her mind they all were as wonderful as this summery day in Silverymoon.
A small park near her house was Cherry's destination and the usual meeting place of all her friends...especially Randell. As wrapped up in her daydreams as she was, she knew the way to the park so well, that her feet carried her all the way there without so much as a real concious thought of the direction to go on her part.
A group of humans and one or two elves all her own age stood ahead of her, her friends. Randell stood amongst them, an older human boy of 17, almost 18, he stood tall amid the group. Talll, broad shouldered, handsomely strong and fair-haired, all Cherry could think while staring at him was 'By Sune, he's gorgeous.' A few greetings from her friends broke her from daydreaming of her future with Randell back to the present.
The young man turned and offered Cherry a bright friendly smile gretting as her other friends had, "Well, hello Cheery. You're looking beauiful this morning." The girls in the group barely stifled their giggling earning a glare each from Cherry.
Opening her mouth to greet Randel in return, a harsh whisper sound from behind her. Around she whirled t oturn a more focused glare on the trickster, but no one was behind her excpet the green grass of the park and its smaller trees.
Randell and the rest of the group looked minorly puzzled when, Silia, a girl in the group piped up, "We didn't think you were going to make it out today, Cherry."
Cherry, frowning with confusion turnsed back to her friends. Shaking her h ead, she tucked lavender locks gone astray behind her ear, "I almost didn't. I put them of-"Another harsh whisper sounded from somewhere to the side, "There it is again."
Randell gaining confusionon his face, "There's what again?"
Cherry pointed off to her left, "That noise. Don't you he-." One by one the harsh whispers began to grow around her and each of her friends was replaced by horrors even she had never imagined. Fiery monsters wreathed in flame. She could not catch up with the changes as they happened, but wherever she had not looked for even seconds looked as part of an alien landscape when she looked that way again.
Overwhelmed and terrifed, she dropped into a ball on her knees, shrieking in terror, whle the harsh whispers grew louder and closed in around her. The heat of the flaming landscape drew nearer too, reddening her olive complexion on the left side.
When she dared ot look up again, the heat, whispers and fiery alien landscape was gone. Her friends all stod around her, some with looks of concern others with distaste and confusion. She sitted up, "Wh..where was I Where did you all go?"
Silia frowning, knelt down beside Cherry, looking over her oddly insant sunburn, "You were right here all along with us. Nobody went anywhere."
Randel shook his head and snorted in derision, "I should've known. What they say about your mother and your family is true. All the girls ARE crazy." Randell's face melted into a mixture of sympathy and fear, "Well.. good luck with that." Maintaining his air of confidence, he walked away with one glance back. More than half the group left withim, suddenly 'hearing 'their parents call or recalling this one chore they 'forgot' to do.
Only Silia and a couple other girls remaiend behind to help cherry back to her feeat and back home. Cherry managed one last look, herself, back at the departing Randell as they both met a parting glance. She stumbled a little as Silia and the others urged her forward. Eyes focused on the ground in front of her, it was the longest walk home she could remember and every step she took pondering over and over, the look in Randell's face as he turned away back there...was that every hope of having normalcy in life just walking away from her?
