::New rumours heard in the Mermaid::

  • Tensions in the docks seem to rise. Rumors indicate that the sails and the spiders are going at each others throats, neither showing much love for the other side. Oddly enough a shining knight is mentioned to have recently stepped in to protect a spider and escort him back to the Pissing Goat. Similarily, the name Ashald is mentioned often together with the infamous Bloodspiders.

  • _The midwinter festival harbored a smaller crowd, then other festivals before. And the cold weather apparently drove some hungry beasts like penguins and yetis to turn the festival into the scene of a battle. Two or three people almost dying, but none actually. The minor competitions included a snowmen building by pairs, a roasting of meat and staying in the icy waters.

The melee eventually was one by a blatant disregard of prior agreements, as Winter and Keira attacked a reading Seth._

  • Upon hearing such rumors, Zyph is heard to laugh heartily at the indications

"The gods are mad? They must've been asleep at the watch the other day then when we took out one of the main pirates on the Ice Lace. With that said, care to see my new boat?"

  • _With the recent increase of pirate activities in Peltarch waters, be it Damaran scum, red sails or other lowlife factions, the Peltarch Navy seems busier than ever. A group of Black Sails appeared rather amused at hearing of all the benefits of life in the city's employ when approached by a pair of Peltarch Defender sailors.

Sabre comments to her fellow Sails:_

"Recruitment might run a bit smoother if not fer that gods-awful shade o' green tha poor sods are made ta wear, eh? Tha armour might be free, but gods… they'd have ta pay me a king's ransom before I'd agree ta lookin' like a bloody pea, lemme tell ya."

  • The new magistrate can be seen heading to the Courthouse once more in an effort to try the newly arrested Bloodspiders in a timely manner his previous case was handled.

  • Nyda's usual presence and demeanour around the City is suddenly more full of smiles and a spring in her own step than before the announcement of Lord D'arneau's Tenure as Magistrate. Some might notice a wicked gleam of humour in her eyes as she smiles, as always, to one and all. She seems at the same time to have shed a great deal of her shyness.

  • Out of the blue, quite a few posters turn up in various places in the city again. The advertise a

  • Magistrate D'Arneau wanders by… simply AMAZED at the clarity and verbosity of local rumors

  • A trial - or a farce?

The facts are summed up quickly, magistrate Shannon, long established member of the Order of the divine shield, held trial over Sywyn Mozhyne, a member of the same order. Present to watch over what's truth and what's lies was Priestess Daisy of the temple of Tyr.

The result of the trial seems weird at best. Apparently the court was convinced of Sywyn's guilt, though not charging him for assault (1.09) for lack of actual prove he was the first to strike, he was merely found guilty of negligent harm (1.10) and disturbing the peace (2.18). But instead of going with the recommended sentences of actual jail time, the magistrate merely demanded a fine and that the accused do some community service.

Further the accusers where taken into custody by orders of the magistrate with various charges of assault and trespassing.

At the end of the long and winding trial, that seemed to discuss other topics more than the actual incident, in particular it seemed more of a point of the trial whether the victim of the assault had done something wrong in the past, rather than ascertaining what actually happened. In particular the defenders wished to prove that the sewer had been accessed, thus making it sound okay for the accused to assault someone.

Many seem confused by the way assault turned into negligent harm, a comment from the spectators suggested that the victim probably happened to run into the accused's fists and feet.

In the end there's many things that seem insatisfied, some people might go with the accuser's story of the Order protecting their own. Some voices even mention that the accused supposedly claimed immunity from the law for being part of the order. Others see the exaggerations done by the accusers as lies and an attempt to ruin justice.

Whichever side someone picks, though, one thing seems obvious, this was not a trial, but a farce. Merely a test of strength. Docks versus Order. It seems that for now the order triumphed.

  • Mercy, on a passing stomp through the Jewel of the Icelake overhears the caterwauling of the Town Criers, proclaiming D'Arneau's new appointment as Magistrate. With a sense of grave decorum, she observes to a passing commoner…

"Umberlee's icy teat o' thunder - we all be fecked, says I…"

  • _Several days pass after the announcement of Shannon being made Magistrate, Senator Aarron Ashald is nowhere to be seen, not making his usual stops to the commons to chat with people.

Then suddenly, one day he just walks into the commons, a big grin on his face and a new skip to his step very apparent. Something has made him quite happy by all appearances. What it is, no one can be sure, he seems quite content to just grin around the commons and not speak of it._

  • In regards to the Calendel situation, Jeremy has been heard to comment

"So, we be done sendin' 'elp to some town whose soldiers are tryin' to lure us into some other war? Right, think I done be needin' some more ale to understand this."

A very angry looking KULL could bee seen storming out of Peltarch, he headed East, he was weilding a massive looking war axe, he´s helm was on and from the visor opening his blood red enraged piercing gaze could scare the soul out of anyone one who crossed his path

The magistrate is seen to comment on the trees, stating…. "Someone make me a crossbow out of whatever those trees are made from" "Trees don't just pop into existance. Reminds me of a time underground when a demon was creating mirages for our minds, blasted thing..."

..."hmm assuming these are really here?" :he knocks on the tree with a gauntlet :

In other matters, Barrim has been seen to be awaiting a senate matter it seems, and has been seen writing in his office, and sending out runners to fetch the Realtor and refreshing his familiarity with the Trade Laws in the city.

Does the magistrate appear to be preparing for a trip? with the supplies and pack animals arriving in the market and assembly areas rumoured to be for the magistrates use, perhaps he is.

Various weather-worn individuals have been seen arriving in the city with appointments to see the magistrate, and although this is not unusual as various strange characters from the outlands and surrounding villages arrive to speak to him these ones' accents are distinctly different from the locals in these parts. To the highly knowledgable some seem to be from Iraibor, or Berdusk.

A few folk seem to be hanging around wondering if there is going to be any work, judging by the Realtors' presence. Last time the realtor was called to speak to the magistrate outside of criminal investigations, the courthouse was built within a year.

  • Notices are posted and word is put out that Genzir, the head of Spellweaver Keep, would like to find the person responsible for the trees in the commons, and exchange knowledge and/or services.

  • Rumour spreads that Mecizq has been contemplating hiring the mage responsible for the commons magic on a semi permanent basis, or at least discussing idea's for future changes to the commons.

  • The Halfling Defence League

Word on the streets is that the cerulean knight, Serenity Laer, is looking for a jeweler of exceptional skill. Her reasons for doing so are open to speculation, but those interested in applying for the job can contact her either while she's on patrol in the city, or - in the rare instances when she's away - at the sisterhood house just outside of Jiyyd.

  • A sea of men clad in blue could be seen leaving the commons with a girl who had recently been crying heading first for the jail, then to the docks with crates, then setting sail on a small cargo ship.

Hours later they returned with not one, but two ships, and a prisoner in tow.

  • _Rumors fill the commons about an unusual sight earlier in the day. The supposed Banite Ezachiel Werner was seen being escorted, bound, by Lady Elenwyd of the Divine Shield and a few members of the guard towards the temple of Tyr.

Although the purpose of this escort wasn't made clear, he was seen leaving the temple sans bonds, with the guard, Genzir and Elenwyd in tow, then promptly left the city lands._

  • Word has it that general Lavindo's very young daughter, Eli, was caught running about with a spellbook belonging to her father, which she used to play a prank on some mages picnicking just south of the Civic District. The result was a very drawn-out exchange between her and captain Seth of the Cerulean knights that ended with him taking the spellbook back to Lavindo and Eli running off, very disgruntled. Lavindo must have a lot of faith in the guard to let his daughter run about town by herself!
