Whispers at the Fire

Drow, beatles, bugbears, goblins, and shadow demons all assaulted the Norwick southern gate for a period of three days. The attacks only took place at night. A handful of adventurers defended the gate from these monsters without losing one of their own, even after the swarms of adult beatles and bugbear they encountered in the woods.

Even though he did all he could to help protect Norwick during the recent goblinoid attack, risking his life like everyone else, the constant taunts and insults seemed to finally get at the wizard known by some as Ezachiel, and after the attack was over, he was seen leaving Norwick northbound, in a rather foul mood.

_A horse drawn cart enters the inner gate late one evening. The next morning the cart heads north towing various boxes and chests all strapped down and covered by a weathered tarp. Several guardsmen led by Kalith and Mord follow the cart north as it makes its way to Oscura.
Lucidious and the half elf he calls Ann spend the next few days moving boxes back and fourth from the boarshead to the great hall behind the inner walls. In the meantime, it seems the new Chancellor has taken up office in one of the back rooms of the Boarshead until the new offices are arranged properly._

Dwin walks somberly behind them, then snaps his fingers at 2 of the gate guards and points at Milshot. They understand the order and follow the redhead and the chancellor as escorts to their destination.
..best make sure they get there in one piece!

Rumor spreads that a firery red head was seen busting down the Chancellor's office door, with help from some guards, then using a magical belt to hold poor Milshot in place. It would seem the red head had some experience with rope, as she quickly bound his hands and feet together, then instructed a few other guards to help her load the man up. She was seen heading north with the former Chancellor, and no one seemed the least bit inclined to stop her.

Rumors begin to spread about Norwick's first ever Rent-A-Friend Auction, hosted by the Chancellor's Office and the Ministry of Fashion. According to some, the new Chancellor Lucidious was attempting to post the winning bid on each of the female participants, often going to great monetary lengths to do so, much to the disappointment of his personal guard, who was anticipating needing to "burn the office couch" in the morning. Others describe the exorbitant sum posted for the Lady Nicahh during a bidding war between an "unidentified bidder" and the elf, Aelhaern, with the final bid nearing 5000 gold pieces, much to the astonishment of the locals. At the conclusion of the event, Penny told the crowd to stay tuned for another friend-finding opportunity in the near future.

Juster is often seen on and just south of sams hill. He is always studying the ground, often times never even taking his eyes off of it to notice passerbys. He often talks to himself, sometimes in a whisper and sometimes yelling at the top of his lungs. Anyone stopping to listen will easily be able to tell that he is looking for the tracks of some drow, and that he is really ticked off.

_Dentin headed into the Town Hall, leaving again soon after with Lucidicious in tow, into the barracks. Some time later, Dentin heads out again, leaving the gates north.
In other news, Sam's Hill was cooked by unknowns today, the defending Militia slain. Hobgoblins are expected to be the cause._

Belin is seen in the Boarshead when off duty or by the cook pot in town drinking some ale. She mentions to those passing about umberhulks and large amounts of tough goblins in the woods. She often gestures to her dented plates and mutters darkly in dwarven.

Rilia reports having felt herself leave her body after a bugbear axe wielder tried to cleave her in two at the waist. Having very nearly succeeded her survival is a miracle attributable to her prompt rescue by Ezechial and consequent healing from her sister Lilin. She makes a report to the guards of the town that first some blood red and black cats were seen and then the bugbears. The bugbears were close to town. Beyond that she remembers very little until she woke up with Lilin.

The Advisor was seen escorting Ezachiel to one of the homes in Norwick. Ezachiel appeared to be carrying a small lockbox, which he promptly offered to the man who answered the door at the home. After a quiet discussion in the doorway, the man eagerly accepted the gift and invited the two men inside. Almost an hour later the two emerged, shaking hands with the man and trading respectful bows before parting.

For days before or after the fight that happened outside Jiyyd between Aelthas and an unknown assailant, Ezachiel did not leave Norwick.
However, mere hours after the fight, he is back in his usual reading spot near the North Gate.

_….it happened just as a small patrol from the Watchful Repose left the south gate. Hordes of goblins, augmented by mages and priests, poured out of the Rawlinswood.
The goblins were dispatched, and then a second wave came, led by bugbears... and then a third, with beetles and an umber hulk...
The Reposers and a band of rangers and scouts fought each wave off, tracked the attackers to a small cave, and then slew them. They proceeded deeper into the woods.
It is unclear what transpired there, but a short time later all who left returned, looking somewhat grim and puzzled. Passerbys heard the word 'drow' mentioned in whispers as they talked and tended their wounds._

Ezachiel was seen carrying the body of a dead woman into town, some hours after he, she and Lucidious went into the Rawlins to investigate rumours of a bugbear presence close to town. If asked, he replies that he tried to save her when she attacked a bugbear, but that he was not able to take down the bugbear, and was forced to flee. He returned after having prepared new spells, slaughtered the bugbear within seconds, and brought the dead woman back to town, along with all her belongings.

Unbothered by internal problems or politics, goblins gather to the south, charging a pair of adventurers. Dying a horrible, bloody death by a man dealing death out with hands and feet and knees. Followed up by two bugbears, the adventurers quickly retreat and hide behind the two guards who dispose of the bugbears without too much trouble.

"Well if tha's the case, I guess I just 'ave ta finish off their cat an' any cousins then, eh?"
Familiar wry grin briefly flashes on his lips, but then he turns serious again and wanders off towards the Town Hall to see if there's anything he can do to help the situation.

Paci catches a glimpse of Milshot and his office before the Chancellor retreats inside, and a worried frown crosses his face. He spots Rando and Dwin talking near the Town Hall and approaches them his usual wry grin completely wiped off from his now serious face.
"Ey thar cap'n an' serge. Wha' the 'ell is goin' on with Mil… the Chancellor? He's been actin' very strangely fer sum time now, an' he dun look too good either. Gettin' real worried 'ere, I am."

_Sensing the activity around the barracks and hall amongst Rando, Dwin, Foilir and Lucid is focused on himself, Milshot retreats to his office but not in time to keep those watching from seeing inside.
Within his office, the Chancellor has errected a makeshift and haphazard barricade of small stones held together with mud and straw. It looks as though a small, round wall has been put together. Big enough for a person to sit inside and certainly not worthy of any true defence, it seems to be where the Chancellor is spending most of his time.
The office itself is in complete disaray with empty bottles scattered about as well as the smell of smoke. It looks as though a small campfire has been burning in a pot inside the office itself.
The Chancellor's appearance only serves to confirm the shambles within the office. He is pale, looks as though he has not eaten anything of substanance is many days and, generally, looks as though he is not feeling well._
