Gypsy Only Shops - Rules of Use
-
I wanted to bring up the idea of the Romani shops that have additional items that are sold to the charaters that have taken the Oath and live in camp.
These items are for you. You are given discounts on items that are available to outsiders that live in other towns. You are EXPECTED to take advantage of this and sell these items for a PROFIT!!
If I find you all selling these lowered cost items to outsiders, I will simple have you tossed from camp, since you are taking money from your Romani hosts, which is in a way, harming them and a violation of your Oath.
And you should CERTAINLY be selling Gypsy Only sold items for a LARGE profit! Bypassing the town citizenship restriction on this by taking gold from another character and buying things for them and NOT TAKING A PROFIT AND NOT RPing THE ACT ARE UNACCEPTABLE AND WILL LEAD TO YOU BEING TOSSED FROM THE CAMP.
If this practice still does not cease after tossing a few people for doing it and I will be forced to do two things… 1) Raise the overall merchant price percentages in the camp to compensate for the loss of business the Romani merchants are feeling from this. 2) Remove all gypsy only gear from the merchants and have it only sellable by a DM possessed merchant.
Please think about the IC and IG reprecussion your actions have on the NPCs around you. I hate being a heavie... but the Camp was balanced to have lower income than some of the other towns, and exclusive and cheap gear was meant to be a balancing agent to allow the Camp PCs to make money through selling these items for profit. Please don't make me rebalnce the camp to make them more like the other towns. I certainly hope you all like the variety the camp gives. x42

I think I'll give a "Gaji" perspective on this… from an OOC and IC view.
Kerby, as much as I know you want to keep everything special to the camp, and have complete unrestricted control over everything done with "Camp Boons" that you created, I find ICly there's a bit of plot holes, and marketing holes also...
When Gaji buy the items, no one is losing profit except fellow Gali who might have sold it for extravegent prices, but if other Gali saw this, they would sell it for a lower price and undercut fellow gali, and it would continue to go lower to a point that the rate charges is barely noticible anyway.
The way I'm personally interpreting your words... Discount is not "at cost". And knowing a basic idea of Gali principle, they wouldn't sell "at cost" in the first place, unless they got back the money somehow.
Now, if there was a "community pot" (suggested above), which would give Gali a "moral incentive" (as a lot of them I know are lazy when it comes to merchanting), possibly even required to upkeep the high discounts, that covers the incentive for the merchants to give the discount in the first place, and allows you to logically demonize anyone buying the items for thier gaji friends, because then they -are- actually taking away frmo the community.
Mirkali, ICly, has never been approached by Gali with a sales offer. He went in once with a host, buying some Elvish rope for himself and one bundle for his Gali host for the hospitality. Of course, he prolly wouldn't buy it for more than 90 gold anyway, he bought it only for that price because of his... eh... "hobbies" Coughs
So, personally, I think, ya, you -could- pretend that it goes to the camp, but that would still be bogus. The camp gives so many great things, that it -should- charge a tax. It's sort of a semi-guild, afterall, and a lot of guilds ((That aren't employed by cities)) have thier members have required mandated taxes or fees from time to time.
From having such a tax, this would essentially make Gali more compelled to follow the rules you laid out, and would -make sense- for most of the things (at least for me). Apart from that, it gives a standing of what Gali are loyal in the ways of donating coin to the camp -above- thier required level. And having this requirement could lead to some very interesting quests and RP.
But again, this is from the perspective of a Gaji, a bard of all things, what do they know, afterall? heh.

and carpets… what do you think paid for all the rugs...?
-
Of course the easiest thing is to just pretend these donations have gone to gypsy camp improvements all along and let on that it is the gifts that bought all those pillows.
-
That is a dead-sexy idea, neal.
It would be interesting to have such donations go to more permanent defenses of the camp, too…maybe, after a certain amount of donation, we could set up ballistae that aim off into the giantspire ruins....

@089aaddff1=Oreth:
This profit that we're making…it should be donated to the camp at large, yes?
Communists scoffs By the same idea I am wondering where my cut of the sales made off items that are crafted with the equipment I defend are.
It would be nice to see a GC coffer that can be contributed to and used for the defense of the camp. These "gifts" that we ask for should have a place to go. We could just trash them and RP that they go to the king but I doubt that would be an adopted practice.
What would be really neat is a scripted thing where there is a guy called the quartermaster who provides free arrows, food, etc. to gypsy camp members, but have it scripted in a way where his inventory is based on gifts that are given to him. If he was given 30 gold, there are 6 foods in his inventory or 30 sets of arrows, etc. Futher scripting would allow you to only request "communal assets" a little at a time so that one person can't go in and take the whole lot.
A lot of work, but it would be a really neat start of a GC welfare system.

The Impulturians are there to trade with Romani. If they were there to trade with the general populace… they would have been placed in the Gypsy Camp. The placement was for IC reasons that you will need to find out IG through talking with those NPCs or other Romani.
In fact... outsiders should not even know they are there. If you choose to resell items that they are selling... that is fine. But make a profit on it! Remember that ALL gaji should be on a VERY short leash while guests of a gali or Romani while in the inner camp.
So wandering about and chatting with NPCs is not to be allowed... your guests are there to see YOU and perhaps help YOU out... not explore the camp.
So no... as a host in the Inner Camp to a gaji... I would not allow them to deal directly with the Impulturians.
-
A question about the inner camp items. I understand how this would apply to special things like Chann's armors, but I was wondering about the traveling merchant in camp. If we accepted the traditional gift to escort someone through camp to look around (for example they were considering becoming a Gali) would they be allowed to browse the merchant's wares on their own without an upcharge?
-
Depends. What are you offering?
-
So now you can pay fad 600 gold for other things?
-
Whoo hoo! Time to do some good old fashioned gypsy SWINDLING!
