The other side

  • The sound of battle had been very short and Skiff rolled out of the tent rubbing his eyes asking "Daddy?"

The Orc grunted and said "Neva" then laughed, blood dripping from his weapon.

Skiff looked about and saw that the stream was stained with the blood of the victims. His father lay almost in two halves. The Orc was looking back to shadowes of others but the boy could hardly make them out through his tears. It was a huge warparty. "You killed my daddy!" He ran as swift as his legs would carry him and the laughter of the orc followed.

Having nowhere else to go he followed the murderers, unable to do anything except arm a trap or two the way his daddy had shown him. "We will be out here in the wilds to build a new life, son. Away from the evil of the red priests. But they will not let us go easily and may try to hunt us down so we need to be ready." His daddy had told him this time would come.

The orc tried to tempt him with offers of candy. One of the women said that she wanted to make sure the child was 'taken care of'. Skiff hid in the tall grasses as the evil mages sent their puppets hunting. They even chopped down his old hiding tree. Deeper into the woods the boy went until he could no longer hear the laughter of the marauders.
