Galad Al'Alandrielle, exile of Moonsea
-
Character Name: Galad Al'Alandrielle
Narfell ID: chawkeySitting by the cooking fire in the centre of Jiyyd, Galad absently tosses small twigs on the gentle blaze, staring into the fire. "How did it come to this?" He mutters, looking around the tiny, patchwork community. He closes his eyes…
Elventree. That was his home, where he belonged. Before he was exiled in shame, that is. Elventree, just east of Hillsfar in the Moonsea region, seemed a long way from now, from here.
Galad had been born into a select group: the Shadowguard - a group of Elvish rangers trained in the arts of stealth and archery, the unofficial protectors of the wood from Elventree to Elmwood. Yes…protectors. Isn't that what he had done? Or at least tried to do?
Galad could still see his father, an elder of the group, staring emotionless as the votes were counted. He knew as their eyes locked how his father had voted. Galad chuckled in disgust, ever so slightly, recognizing for the first time where he learned his own stubbornness from. He glanced at his mother, standing quietly in the corner with her graceful bow slung over her shoulder; he knew as well in his heart that she, at least, had not condemned him. He gathered what little was his, and as the Shadowleader read the council's proclamation, Galad stated simply, "So be it."
Hefting his pack over his shoulder gracefully, he turned to look to his mother one last time. Standing proudly, almost arrogantly in the door, he announced to the hall in general, "I will redeem what I have done here...though I do not expect forgiveness." He purposefully did not look at his father as he strode out the door of the hall, out of Elventree and all that was his past.
Within the first day of leaving, Galad renounced Chauntea as his protector, embracing Shevarash - the Elven hunter god of vengeance and crusades, the Night Hunter - in a small ceremony at a forgotten shrine in the Elmwood. He walked, and kept walking, as far away from Elventree as he could walk, past Impiltur through the Rawlinswood, landing at last, spent, near destitute, utterly shamed, in the town of Jiyyd.
((Note: I am very clear about ‘what happened’ to cause Galad’s exile, and MORE than willing to share it with any (dm’s, player guides, etc) that need to know. I don’t really want to share it publicly for RP reasons, if that is ok though. Perhaps those that get very close to Galad in his stay here may hear of it. If you are a DM or player guide, feel free to highlight the text below this to make the story appear.))
Also note, this is my first character here or on any persistent world…advice, both RP and general, is more than welcome. Seems like a great place so far!~
What actually happened:
Galad, a young elf in training to be a Shadowguard, was ordered left behind when word some of Maalthiir’s elite guards were setting an ambush on the road between Hillsfar and Elventree. Galad was (is?!) not yet skilled enough to warrant participation in such a battle, and he knew it, but was none the less upset, and eager to prove his worth. He went anyway, disobeying the council’s direct order to stay, and help the other fledglings protect the young at their camp.
Galad hurried to catch up to the Shadowguard hunting party, his plan to secretly hide nearby and shoot from a distance. Things didn’t go according to plan, and it was Galad whose uncharacteristic clumsiness - combined of course with his arrogance - tipped Maalthiir’s guards off, first to himself, and then to the rest of the Shadowguard forces. Five Elven defenders fell that battle, including Galad’s uncle, his fathers younger brother.
To make matters even worse, an Orc raiding party happened upon the fledglings at camp, killing two children and kidnapping two more young elves. Had Galad stayed behind as he was ordered…
Galad’s sentence was exile from the Shadowguard, and from Elventree. Perhaps one day he may return to make peace with his father. He must first prove himself, if only TO himself. Ending up near death his first day in the swamp was, perhaps, not the best start for him (but made his ‘RP’ fall THAT much more shaming :P)
