Summoner Update

  • I've spoken with Summoner and he's asked me to relay to the community that he's ok. He's still in the hospital and the meds are causing him to sleep most of the time, plus his internet isn't working in the hospital so he's not able to read the forums or be IG.

I'll be happy to pass on any messages to him! 🙂

  • Through my years playing Green and Lyte I've shed many a real tear over fantasy characters and their comings and goings, and being a creative sort of person with a very active imagination, I tend to sometimes think of the people behind the characters by their creations personas and names- I just can't help it.

I interacted a lot with Summoner's two characters over the years- but seldom OC with the man behind the curtain. Even so, I got the sense that here was a very caring- a nurturing sort of human being who always took the time to think before he spoke, and who tried his best to accomodate my own characters sense of moral dignity. He was someone who would make the same effort with very young newbs as he would with old friends. You could feel his- maturity or perhaps wisdom expand in later years. Probably the knowledge of his own mortality added extra sensitivity to what are often years that are filled with a feeling of invincibilty and youth.

Both Narfell and our real world are lesser places without him, though, it would seem from the wide and heartfelt response here, that our friend will never be truly gone from this little virtual world, for he has carved out a legendary place in each of our hearts.

Summoner's magic was of the sort that is never extinguished.

  • I don't read much forums. And I have my comings and goings, so I -just- learned and read what happened.
I am here dropping my tears a few months delayed. (I don't think that matters.)

  • R.I.P Summoner X.

    He's one cool dude.

  • Goodbye my friend.

  • This is the first I've heard of Summoner's passing as I've been away.

This saddens me deeply, Summoner was a very good friend.

Please pass on condolences from me to his family.

    -Brandon

  • I was very sad to hear this awful news.

My condolences go to his family and friends.

I knew him a little, played with a few of his chars, and chatted with him on irc.

Summoner was a really nice guy and really got into the rp. He was a valuable and popular member of the community who will be sorely missed.

  • Thanks for letting us know about all this D.

    hug

  • The Memorial was well done, the ashes were present. I had the opportunity to meet and speak with his Dad, Mom and Brother. The entire family knew who I was and were very aware of the community and how much it meant to him.

They played a video of pictures of him throughout his life that was great to see. His Dad is making a different video including his time in the hospital and will be sending me the link. I'll post it here when I receive it.

Thank you all for your support of the family by signing the online guest book. Because of that, the pastor who brought the memorial message talked about how Summoner had touched people all over the world and listed some of the places he reached during his time here.

I'm not sure what else to say really, but I really miss getting Summoner's texts and phone calls and hearing him call me the Queen of Silly or Old Lady D!

Thank you again to a wonderful and supportive community, from both his family and myself.

  • @89c618b6c3=Clan:

Whoever is able to make his funeral, I hope you can extend heartfelt thoughts to his family from our community. I don't know how much they know about his "alter egos" in that mysterious land of Narfell, but they should know that there are many people, worldwide, that were positively affected by his presence on a daily basis, and that will miss him.

I've been talking with his Dad daily and he knew who I was, stating that Summoner really enjoyed our interactions, so I know the family knew, at least in part, that those here were his friends and knew and loved him.

I'll also be attending the services and following reception with my oldest daughter who never played Narfell but knew Summoner from phone conversations. We will make sure Narfell is represented as real friends of Summoner's, people who loved him and will miss him greatly. Anyone who hasn't done so yet, please, please, sign the online guest book at the above link on his memorial site. This will be a strong representation of how much he meant to us.

  • 😢 very sad news

thoughts and prayers for his family

  • Dwin and Ronan hated each other. Their mutual dislike interrupted Senatorial proceedings, insulted entire races and cities, and will be legendary.

Similar to Cao's remarks below, in the heat of arguing or axe-brandishing, i would always get a quick ":)" or otherwise friendly Tell from Summoner which always helped me to remember that we're meant to be having fun, etc.

  • Narfell DM

This is very sad news. Summoner was always an engaging, proactive player, Wolf being one of the first characters to make themselves integral in the first long plot I ever ran as a DM, and Ronan was a character with a history you would write a book about. There were a lot of times as well where Ronan managed to infuriate practically every NPC I ran till they were fit to stab him, but it never fazed the man behind the screen, and Summoner and I would chuckle about the IC animosities in tells. I'll really miss him. 😞

  • There'a a picture on the memorial site of him playing NWN 🙂 That's pretty awesome! 🙂

  • I received a text from Summoner's Dad earlier today. He sent me the link to the Memorial page for Summoner. It has the details of the service and how and where donations can be made as well as some photos. It's a beautiful web page.

  • Random decided to visit the forums and found the facebook page for the first time from the mention of it in the Ribs post and saw the information for the funeral at the top and my heart sank.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Its still a bit of a shock. The last time I was around and talking with him I had realized how much he had grown up from the kid who played Wolf years ago. He had a ton of courage and fight in him and I'm glad he had those few years of relapse. At a bit of a loss for words. Its times like this, even when you've been away for a while, that shows that online or not this is still a community. Rest in Peace Summoner.

  • A boy. A man by now. You've never seen eachother outside a digital world. But inside that digital world, you knew eachother for years. The times you shared were glorious, and the conversations you had were hilarious. Those who haven't experienced such a thing, would have trouble understanding, or even believing, that such a thing can create a connection.

I left this place behind because it was the better thing for me. It's been a while now, since Summoner and I talked. You'd think you'd forget. Many other people claim "none of it is real, after all, not even the social interaction". But Summoner was real. He was a bright, funny kid that was growing up, and beating cancer.

You don't forget. Froo told me this morning, my heart sank. I am at work now, typing this with a gut wrenching feeling. I offer my condolences to his family and friends. This includes Narfell. I will not have you seen as something seperate.

Rest well, Summoner. You will be missed.

  • Rest in peace Summoner. You'll be missed.

Oooh Summoner…

Thanks BR, words in English kept sliping my mind, but that s how I feel about it too.
