Recruitment
-
Rain one by one takes groups of four out for field patrols and skills assessment. She briefs recruits on current battle formations, survival training, and special tactics. She watches for how well they function under pressure, judging the recruits based on their team work, communication, and ability to adapt in combat.
-
Hannibal does all he is asked to do, nothing more, nothing less. He shows up at precisely the same time as Aelthas and waits for instruction. It 'twould appear he is but an average militia member. The very meat and potatoes that makes up a force.
-
The Chancellor occasionally watches from the hill near the Great Hall. He is usually accompanied by another dwarf in a Gold Cloak.
The two watch the progress, and occasionally take notes on some of the recruits that seem to be taking to the exercises better than others.
It is said that he feels the Militia is doing just fine, despite some of the recent departures. "Trimming the fat" is an expression he's apparently used more than once recently.
-
_Saria is there almost as early as Aelthas, also taking up training patterns before everybody gets there.
Though a few grumbles can be heard, when it is seen she doesn't have any armour at all to do laps in, she silences them by filling a pack with large rocks and running with it.
She is uncomplaining during all the exercises, not eating, and taking only small sips of the water when offered.
Her biggest obstacle seems to be the padded swords. After awkwardly flailing it for a little bit; she tucks it over her shoulder and lays into her partners with fist and foot. Though she doesn't hesitate to bite, knee or elbow when chance presents itself. Likewise armourless, she displays great agility, and skill in blocking blows or stepping past them easily.
She is there early the next morning, smiling and warming up ready for the new day._
-
Every hour or so, when she has a spare moment, Albry inspects the recruits' progress throughout the day, correcting their stances and sword motions when needed. She speaks quietly with Aelthas after each round she makes before continuing with other business.
-
Toilir shows up in full gear and manages to keep up with or ahead of most of the taller folk in the exercises. When the padded swords are handed out he lets out a loud laugh but takes up the sword and joins in on the sparring.
-
_As promised, within a tenday Aelthas is on the fairgrounds, well before the sun rises. He seems to go about his own training patterns as he waits for the new recruits to show up.
As a few slowly start to come in, he seems to get to business right away. The first thing to happen is laps around the fairgrounds in full armor and weaponry, this continuing on for over an hour before he seems to give the recruits a short break and a small drink of water. In a short time though, the armor they wear is ordered to be stripped and he takes them off to the east of Norwick for an hour of swimming.
The swimming might be a temporary relief as the cold water soothes the recruits, but soon enough after it, he has them back running laps once again around the fairground in armor, before he sends them off to a few of the trees, to take turns doing chin ups on them, the whole time saying if they don't pull up all the way, he'll start lighting fires under their feet. These exercises seem to continue till at least midday, before he orders them all to relax on the grass and a meal is brought to them along with some water.
While he sits with the recruits, he takes some time out to speak with them, not touching his food as he talks._
The point of being militia is to defend your home, not any one person within it. All are equally important. You serve the Realm as a whole. Take a look around at all the people around the town when you walk the streets, get to know them, treat them decently. This isn't about personal power or wealth, you could make more gold being adventurers and likely get more powerful. You need to care, care enough to offer your services and possibly to die for the people of this town.
If this isn't for you, you should save yourself the trouble and pain you'll be feeling while training.
After some more casual talk if any comes or questions, Aelthas jumps up and heads off to a crate, tossing padded sparring swords on the ground, ordering them all to grab one and pick a partner.
Now, you won't go easy on your partner, they'll get bruises, but that's part of learning. Watch what I do and try to repeat it. We'll start simple.
_He spends a bit of time showing them a series of parrying moves, as well as attacks, then orders them to go at each other as if their lives depended on it. Unlike with the other exercises, he doesn't take part in this, he simply watches and walks up and corrects them as he sees them doing something wrong, or tending to any bad injuries they might receive.
After a few hours of sparring and nodding like he is satisfied with what has been accomplished for the day, he dismisses them all and tells them to show up the same time tomorrow to repeat it all._
//Any pc recruits can post on what they do, as can the DM's if any npc recruits show up.

Albry simply chuckles after hearing Dietrick.
Naturally, that is me. The cowardly leader that does nothing but cringe behind others in the face of danger. That's why I've been in command of this militia for years, and fought countless perils.
Shakes her head with another soft chuckle before heading after Aelthas.

When Dietrick hear of the news, he calmly expresses his own personal opinions:
"Dietrick ave' many times fight to protect Norwick in past. Was once Norwick militia and left on good will. After dracolich battle, present militia commander Albrayana with guardsman Locrian, say very nasty things to Dietrick, even things not true to discredit him. Stuff like how he was kicked out of militia which is not true. Dietrick just likes say this is the Norwick militia of now, they can turn they backs on people who once work side with and help them and the town. If people wants help norwick, can help as free man, but to help by joining the norwick militia of now, Dietrick not recommends. If any wants go under Albrayana's leadership, be prepared get barked much at, but also prepare leader will not stand at front when danger is big."

Grak waits until Aelthas has left and snickers after his recent speech
"When dis town become cesspool fer all filth und refuse frem da large-town, eh? Grak's crystal-clear memory easily recalls dat dis very same grunt got imself kickeds outs und banished frem da large-town militia force just few moons ago. Now, dem local militia easily embraces imself even knowing dat dem grunt changes dem allegiance faster dan direction of da wind. Obviously trustworthy allegiance bes nay requirements fer grunts who get taken inta this rag-tag group who bes upholding laws ere, eh?"

Rain watches at a distance, being shaded by a tree.

Belma'r says:
Gah! When did he gets ta be a guard down here? Thought he was up at da big city.

Upon witnessing Aelthas's speech, Danika can be heard to not-quite-whisper, "All it costs is a hhhand."

Cyrian stares at Daveth not really knowing what point he was trying to make. When the rant is done Cyrian just shakes his head as if trying to clear the nonsense from his memory.
We give great benefits too.

Daveth Gravesend is seen somewhere at the back leaning against a wall, seemingly just talking to himself very loudly
Seems like a big ol' conspiracy to me. Sure, people could sign up to "protect Norwick" like they were probably doing already, but then they'd be ordered around all the time!
Twisting one end of his moustache
Yes! Then whenever there was a big ol' pile of treasure they could just order you to not take any. Sounds like a scam to me! They didn't pay you before for protecting the town, don't know why they'd do it now. Bet you'll get some one off payment and that'll be it. Just trying to sink their talons into you, make it so you can be punished as a citizen -and- as Militia simultaneously!
Sounds like they're making up enemies now too. Bet they're -really- recruiting for a Norwick overthrow of the government! Yes, indeed! Fire balling their way into power. It's a classic, classic style of military coup. Oh you'll sign up alright, then they'll "personally" train you. By that I mean, get you with their -mind tentacles-, suction cups twisting your every thought! Stay free agent I say, benefit more and don't get ordered around.
And you know those cabbages they farm around here? Not really cabbages.
Daveth then laughs for a long time. It's not clear whether he's lying, joking, is right or just insane. He then heads off north.
