Telli arrives in Oscura for an extended stay.
-
"Its yer city Miste-…Justicar...If yuh tinks da citizens will be more welcomes ta light after success dens… mebbe we shoulds keep below ta mushrooms, lettuce and fungi dats nots needededs much lights ta survives. And wull work on fresher betters fruits and vegetables topsidededs.
Maythor was talkings wids me da oder days too... he saids he woulds be willings ta helpedededs wids a fish farm a sorts toos if yuh tinks da city could prospers froms its...
Chauntea usually looks over da veggies and da fruits...buh... she likedededs animals toos... so a fish farm mights be good toos...
He said a few good charges... and smarts dwarves on dem could blast a small water source inta da area we currently workings ats... could fill pools a water and make some fish farms fer food fer da city too...
Whatcha tink a dat?"
-
Justicar arrives and reviews how things are proceeding.
Very interesting Lady Telli. Perhaps an interim method would work? We have a way station being built on the surface as we speak. If you wish, we could clear a few acres around said way station for you to plant crops. Once the children of Oscura have access to fresh food from these farms, they may be more willing to accept constructing some sun rooms off of the main caverns to do as you wish?
Your thoughts?
-
Z takes Telli aside and has a quiet conversation with her.
((PM on the way))
-
*Z drops by to see how Telli's cave crops are coming along.
He takes out a quill pen, some parchment, and begins to jots some notes as he looks over the fields.*
Hmmm…
-
Marie looks around, and shrugs
Undead down here are supposed to be under the control of whoever created them. If one of them destroys the crops, their owner has to pay for the damage.
It's no different to having grain that a cow would want to eat.
-
Telli nods mulling over what was said before responding…
"Dey draw undeaders ta em... we gonna...."
Looks around the farming area lowering her voice
"...have prollems wid undeaders if we keep dese'uns arounds?"

@c24337e0c9=Tigrelily:
As she sighs further reports trickle in of the recently planted vegetables progress. Telli seeks out Scuttle to learn more of these plants she brought and whether they'll help for long term growing or if their more work on the farmers then their output.
Still working in the fields with the other farmers, Scuttle puts down her tools and comes over to Telli.
They're pretty hardy plants, actually. The reason why they're so hard to find is that undead don't like them, so down near Norwick the skeletons and zombies get drawn to them, to try and kill them.
As long as you keep the undead away, they're about as easy to look after as lettuce. Keep them wet, a little bit of light, and they'll be fine. No pruning needed, although you can prune them when they get bigger to use the shoots and make more plants, or sell the shoots to alchemists and potion makers.
These ones were actually growing at the foot of a copse of trees, out of the sun. So I think they'll do just fine down here.
If you think they're looking a little down, just get someone to use a curing blessing on them, they'll perk right back up. Even a minor one would do the job, or the energy that gets used to repulse undead will work for a heap of them at once.
I'm sure that if you ask around, you'll be able to find a priest who's happy to help, in exchange for the occassional shoot from them.

Telli watches Mercy peg along with a flat unappreciative expression until she's well out of sight.
"Telli wants ta hear if dat jerks in dis area or around Chautnea's altar if Telli ain't arounds… yuh hear?"
Telli turns to some of the farmers with a stern look before going back to inspecting some of the more fruitful crop growth.
-
Being the charitable and well-meaning soul she is, Mercy pegs by when Telli is slaving to stave off the swarmy flyblowing to cackle and gloat, leerily offering the send her own turds to Chauntea's dwarven finest - gratis - to assist with her underground and undergrowing campaign towards fruitful foliage. Either that or - quoth Umberlee's handmaiden - Mercy could squat down directly over the affected little seedlings, loosening her slack bowel without a middleman…
-
After news of the flies annoyance increasing Telli stands in the middle of the farming area contemplating kicking the bucket near her foot as far as she can. Instead she balls her fists and stands there gritting her teeth for a solid thirty seconds until she exhales audibly turning to the workers.
"Ooooookeee….first tings firsts... lets make sure we gits dems jars emtpied and exchanged as quick as we kin okee. Lets keep up on ems till dems flies is gone. I wants a report on dems frogs and snakes toos... if der poisonous wull gets ems outta dis mushroom patch. Last ting we need is somes farmers poisonededs. If der not poisonous....along wid da beetles... dey'll helps da flies prollem."
As she sighs further reports trickle in of the recently planted vegetables progress. Telli seeks out Scuttle to learn more of these plants she brought and whether they'll help for long term growing or if their more work on the farmers then their output.

_A rather short hin dressed in a grasstained robe walks slowly to the garden and looks it over with his skilled eyes. He looks at each plant, nodding slowly before he walks to the next. Occasionally he'll pick a weed or straighten a stem.
Then, as soon as he's done, he walks off slowly, his hood over his head._
-
_The halfling's plants are sturdy and resilient to the beetles and flies. The veggie patch looks better than it has in tendays.
The mushrooms are not so lucky. The bottles intended to catch the swarms of manure flies quickly become choked with the bodies of trapped flies. More quickly fill their place. As the flies continue to breed, the gardeners notice the subtle appearance of the occasional toad and snake in the garden. They seem to be feeding on the flies._
-
A young halfling, dressed in black with a red cloak comes to Oscura, a wary look about her. She makes her way quickly to the new farming land, and asks if she can be any help.
Miss Telli said she could do with a hand, so I'm here. I helped my folks back home to grow crops in the shadow of the Dragonspine mountains, so maybe I can be of some use?
Once she's pointed in the right direction, she pulls out some plants from her bag, cloth around their bases.
These are special, a friend helped me find them. They can channel positive energy, so they should help the plants grow underground a bit easier. All you need to do is to help them grow, and they'll enrich the soil around them when you use positive energy on them, like from a curing blessing.
My friend? Well, she's a cleric of Ilmater, and devoted to healing that which is wounded. She wants to help, in her own way. And I think these plants might do it. We found them out near the lake south of Norwick. She normally uses them to make healing balms, but she said these could be better used here, to heal the land.
-
grins… "Wull da closests ting yuh kin muster ta warm... he'll be's a good asset downs heres... he's a foller a Chauntea and a well known farmer topsides... so... yuh..."
Telli waddles off for some breakfast a heavy sigh of burden upon her.
-
Coin smiles
I'll try, though Oscura is not known for being… Warm winks but I know what you mean.
-
Telli travels along with "Coin" one day, they both observe the crop fields… it appears Telli's running through a checklist of what seedlings are dying outright...what ones are fighting strong...and ones thriving in the low light cropping area. Before long she turns to "Coin"...
"I'ms expectings a friend a mines down here soons... his names Mr Z....will yuh see ta it he gets awarm welcomes..."
-
The purple haired woman, who most are getting to know as Coin. Labours along side the other farmers, like she too is one of them. Though now she wears the cloak of a Peacekeeper.
-
Early one morning Telli's seen praying at the altar in the middle of the farming area. After an hour or so she brushes off her knees inspecting the rows of crops with some of the other farmers. If some of them become too worried over the dying seedlings and increased insects Telli's quick to comfort them with the following.
"Da dung beetles is okee… long as dey don't multiply too muchs. Dey'll actuallies helps gets ridda da flies... since dey feeds on da dung. Da flies dough....deys a prollem. All dey brings is disease and pestilence... so... lets see ta dem firsts eh....Some a yuh run and gets Telli a few glass bottles and a flank a steak okee...
As fer da crops... we was bound ta loose somes... dig ups da tomatoes seeds and don't boder planting more a ems till we gits da lights figured outs down here. As fer da lettuce seeds... lettuce is da vegetables dat need like da leasts light a anytings ta grow asides mushrooms… Some a yuhs go gets da priests here ta bless somes stones wid light... and a stone or two wid sunlight... Da light stones....der fines... yuh gots artificial lights down here already. Da natural lights stones..."
Telli pauses looking around and taking one of the cones they have lying around.
"...If yuh kin stands naturals light... yuhs on da natural light gems... if yuh can'ts... stick ta da artifical'uns..."
As a few of the farmers come back with glass bottles and a flank of steak Telli sits down where she stands and motions them closer...
"Time ta learn sometings eh? Gader arounds... Need ta kill somes flies...ain'ts gots noffings buts a bottle, somes wata, and somes meat... yer good ta goes.....Yuh juss...."
Telli pulls a glass cutting device from her pack....
"...yuh juss cuts below da ring like....dis.....add....somes wata....and da meat.....den....put yuhs cut bottle upsides down...der yuh goes! A naturals fly trap and dey can't gets outs.... cause dey too dumbs ta fly ups da middle fer somes reasons..."
Telli smiles setting the jug near the mushroom area infested with flies and motions a few workers to go and get help making some more for the area.
When some of the farmers arrive with the gems blessed she has some of the workers scattered around the rows. Those that can handle the natural light gems without damaging their eyes are instructed to carefully use the cones to shine intense light beams onto the lettuce seedling area till the gems light fade.
"Lets see if we can'ts savededs somes a da crops eh…."
When next Justicar stops by Telli's quick to pull him aside for a brief discussion.
"Hey ders Miste- Justicar... we hits somes snags dis weeks... wid beetles and flies and somes seeds dyings... yuh gonna need ta decides... yuh wanna feed yuhs folks cruddy mushrooms and lettuce and tings likes dats dat nots need much lights....or... yuh wanna haves a real farm down here… and if dat da case... we gonna need ta figure outs a way ta section offs some a dese caves down here ta receives somes natural lights gems... but direct ems ta hits da crops and not point outs towards da city. Telli can draw up somes plans a some ways ta works dis out if yuh wants... buh widout its... don't tink moonlight spells and fake light gonna do it oder den fer da mushrooms and lettuce and a few oder tings..."
-
Telli's vegetable patch has been showing signs of suffering lately. The lack of natural sunlight and heat stunts the tomato and lettuce seedlings. Additionally, upon close inspection, observers will notice a burgeoning infestation of dung beetles in the soil, and swarms of manure flies around the mushrooms.
