Whispers at the Fire

  • _Work progresses quickly on the construction of the walls. It appears that perhaps even a tower is under construction behind the walls, too early to tell.

The biggest change is that the number of Dwarves working on the stone and masonry sections of the walls has grown by two or three fold within the last several days. Rumor has it that the Chancellor went into the Hold with a big sack of gold and came out with just as many dwarves, ready to work.

Whatever he did, it worked, and the Dwarven-work-songs and drum beats can be heard as far off as the center of town as the walls continue to take shape._

  • Several days ago, a small group of battered and bloodied Iron Chain Clan horcs returned to the south gate from somewhere south. Seen arguing amongst themselves, they were tight lipped and as unfriendly as ever to any passerby before heading out north.

  • _The troops that were formerly on the Hill have been replaced and have taken up a position north of what's being referred to as "Sam's Folly" or the crater where the hill once stood.

Meanwhile, behind them men of the Realm along with possibly even some strong refugees have begun the task of rebuilding the walls that once protected Norwick's northern flank. Several red-cloaked guards supervise the activities, and a few of the Militia's high-ranking officers have set up a small tent and table to organize the location of the walls and other barriers that are slowly taking shape. A dwarf, often known as the 'The Foreman' also stops by regularly to help comment on the plans and the work as it progresses, and several dwarves from the Hold help to rebuild the defenses as well.

Carts full of lumber from the mills in the east valley go back and forth to supply the workers with the material they need, and carts of stone and masonry come from the Hold, led by Rothes (who are incidentally happy that the bright sun isnt shining in their eyes).

The Chancellor himself, along with his trusted advisers has camped out at Barak-Tor, the Northern Hold, to keep an eye on the construction and to help urge along the work at as fast as possible of a pace._

Day after day, night after night, groups of Iron Chain Clan half-orcs can be seen entering and leaving Norwick. These groups of half-orcs are seen patroling the woods around the lake and exterminating any gobling and its allies that are unlucky enough to cross their path. When the night ends and the day light start to show, another group of fresh halfers go in, to substitute the tired and battle weary group of Halfers

  • In what most folks consider "morning" (hard to tell when morning actually is unless travellers from outside can confirm where the Yellow-face was before they entered the realm) Redcloaks begin distributing food-stuffs to the refugees, while others take well-stocked horse drawn carts to residences and distribute some much-needed sustenance.

Rumor has it that there's plenty more where this came from, and the threats of starvation due to the "dark" and rotting plants are temporarily thwarted.

The supply of food is completely controlled by the Militia, and the location of the food is not immediately obvious or known. Several of the guards mention that they heard the food was allowed to travel south from Peltarch through the N'Jast blockades.

Groups of Iron Chain Clan halfers can be seen entering Norwick to replace others that are returning from a night of patrol in the woods.
The group beeing replaced can be seen entering norwick from the south gate, showing evidence of beeing involved in skirmishes with whatever lurks behind the trees and bushes at the cover of the dark night.
These barbarian warriors look weary and their armors and wepons are stained with the blood of whatever they´ve fought and slain during their patrols.
Day after day, night after night, waves of these brutish and vicious warriors can be seen heading to the woods right outside norwicks old south-gate. The clank of metal against metal and the squeals of pain and suffering of those wo have fallen before these vicious half-orcs are heard from far, far away. By the end of the night, when the sun starts to rise, these warrior return and new fresh one go in to take their place

  • Your friendly neighborhood crafter and farmer, Z, hasn't been seen too much around town, as of late. Instead, he's been spending a significant amount of time working in the workshop in his barn.

When asked about what he's working on, he simply shrugs and replies, "Nuthin'."

    Hmmm… :ninja:

  • Sela stood raptly as the Warriors of Tempus spoke with Lieutenant Desario. Being a recent disciple of Tempus, she was in awe as the soldiers quoted the dogma of Tempus to the Lieutenant. Her heart, which had been heavy with the news of so many enemies against Norwick, was now lifted. As she watched, another band of devotees, this group to Sulane, marched into town, but here attention was focused fully on the Tempus Warriors. "We may stand a chance now of winning" she thought as she headed off to the barracks for the night….

    PapaD

  • Rumor has it that an army of warriors from Damara, said to be followers of Tempus, marches all over Narfell.

Rumors of groups breaking off and joining other factions are amidst.

Several warriors have been spotted in Norwick, and were said to be seen being lead into the barracks by a Militia Lieutenant.

  • Among the many refugees from Jiyyd, travelers in Norwick would notice a rather pale elf spending much of his days with the refugees, handing out food and providing medical care as necessary. The elf bears no religious symbols, and seems to prefer to keep to himself.

  • _Dwin and several of his elite bodyguards and some other dwarves spend some time looking at the site of an unfinished temple in the eastern Valley, on a hill that overlooks the mills and in the distance, the Graveyard.

One of the dwarves, commonly known as simply "the Foreman" makes some notes in a small book as he paces off distances in several directions.

When they come back to the fire and disperse, Dwin asks around if anyone knows any clerics of Lathander._

  • Rumor has it that Grag and the town Herald got into a shouting match at the fire over Dwin, Norwick, and N'Jast.

  • *A rather dreadful rumor circulates that General Lyte, in her role as elected First Seat of Safety of what was Jiyyd, signed an agreement with the traitor Kara, who leads the N'Jast army, that would keep the remaining population of Jiyyd neutral, and have Jiyyd rebuilt by N'Jast.

A serious and rather raucious Jiyyd town meeting occured in Norwick thereafter. Lyte was seen earnestly requesting that she and Grag be released from their town council positions by town vote, and that the Legion as a whole, be booted from citizenry therein.

There was grumbling and hissing and cries of taking Kara's head with hand sythes and garden shears, but eventually, witnesses claim, they listened to the charismatic councilperson, and grudgingly voted her, and Grag, and the legion, out of what once was their village, ending a prosperous, often noisy and clanky, farting era.

Then, in the first act of the new era for the citizens of Jiyyd, Watchperson Smasha spoke up.

"All goes in favor of accepting the peace offer from the bitch of N'Jast to the FREE TOWN OF JIYYD?"

Silence is said to have surrounded at the little camp, as Jiyyd citizens spoke for themselves unanimously.

Cheers erupted for the Legion, a woman of noted ferocity is said to have shed elven tears, and things would never be quite the same for any involved, ever again.*

  • Anyone with an inclination to visit the glen, or into the Rawlinswood that may encounter one of the druids or glen residents may overhear that a certain Elder of the Circle, Jerrick, was heard from. He has not been seen in some time around Norwick OR the woods.

Nothing else decisive was really said, though N'jast was mentioned more than once.

What on Toril does N'Jast have to do with Jerrick?

  • The Halfling Defence League

Following Jiyyd's fall, Gears stays close to Ginger and their tent at Z's farm, apparently spending some quality time with the wife. Little is seen of him around Norwick, this time as an unintended consequence.

//gone this weekend, see ya guys when I get back!

  • _The sun just starts to peek over the horizon, the bustling activity of Norwick begins slowly, the slight food shortage being noticed by everyone. Refugees from Jiyyd wander the town looking for work, trying to scrap enough together for a meal for their families.

As some wait quietly by the gates waiting for word of their home, the gates suddenly open to a rumbling sound, but instead of a group of soldiers or messengers bringing word from the soon to be war zone to the east, a caravan of six wagons moves into town, at their head is a woman in Seafarer garb, the caravans themselves guarded by Seafarer Pikemen and Norwick Militia.

The woman stands up on top of the first wagon as the caravans come to a stop near the fire, she looks around motioning for silence from the crowd who have gathered to see what the caravans are about, she suddenly yells out clearly, for all to hear._

On behalf of the Seafarers of Peltarch, I greet you fine citizens of Jiyyd and Norwick. You may have noticed our members coming to and from town and may I say that it has not been for nothing! Your Chancellor, the proud and noble Lord Dolvak has worked with me to secure a trade agreement with Lord Vaster Ashald that will bring food back to your town. On behalf of Lord Dolvak and myself, I am here to produce the first of these shipments with a gift attached. Five wagons are the beginning shipment, but with a bit of scraping of our own, Lord Dolvak and I managed to get a sixth, not for selling, but as a gift to you all for your courage and your loyalty in these trying times!

_As she says that, the Pikeman form a ring around the first wagon while the other five are taken off towards the Great Hall. A group of men and women, all in Seafarer colors come from up the road and all climb up into the wagon and begin tossing food to each and every person in the crowd. A few of the women take the time to toss an extra loaf of bread, pack of salted meat or an apple to the children who run close to the wagon.

As the last of the food is tossed out, the woman once again begins to talk._

I only ask one thing from you fine people, that when times are hard, you remember that your Lord and his new friends will do whatever they can to make sure you -all- are taken care of, commoner or noble, all suffer during times of war and we are here to supply. There shall be regular shipments of food coming into this town as of this day, no one will need go hungry again!

She then holds her hands in the air and begins to yell out.

For your Lord Dolvak! For the Seafarers!

The cheers of Norwickians and refugee alike are heard, drowning out almost any other sound as the fears and concerns of this war have been forgotten, even for just a moment.

  • Several people note that the old ruins seem cloaked in a vile, cold, dark mist these days…
