Tamora La'Thayet - Rebellious Debutante

  • _**The La'Thayets of Peltarch. A minor family of noble standing, they had little in the way of ancient wealth and influence that some of the older noble houses have. When the others had already established their respective fortunes and were vying for influence and power in the political landscape, the La'Thayets were nothing more than farmers. Chastain La'Thayet, however, was an adventurer and bounty hunter of some renown, and not only had he accumulated a sizable amount of money over the years, but the heart of a young Harper maiden from the Sword Coast. It was in Chastain's retirement years that the family rose to the ranks of nobility.

For over thirty years, Chastain catered to the land needs of the region. If ever someone needed an equitable piece of land, Chastain had mysteriously had the foresight to purchase it the month prior. Never did the La'Thayets develop the land themselves, but instead he would sell each lot for a sizeable profit. It was a lucrative enterprise. A little too lucrative for some. The Peltarch Senate formed a small committee, which hired several diviners to investigate these land dealings, along with a few spies. Nothing was uncovered though beyond a seemingly unrelated string of robberies of nearly every house and business in the city by a shadowy female figure. Attempts were made to link Chastain's land trades and the robberies together, but nothing was ever proven, and by the time of his death, the La'Thayets had gained enough money and equity to be the new social elite, effectively buying their position in the nobility, despite having relatively little in land or trade rights.

For the past 200 years, they have since been living it easy, content to maintain their reserves with steady unaggressive trade. Nothing particularly eventful has occurred in the family since in that time. In fact, there has not been a single adventurer in the family since Chastain. His great great great great great granddaughter is about change all that.**

The floorboards creaked, and candlelight flickered under the closed door. The light moved by quickly, and the footsteps faded soon after. Once the servant had passed down the hall, Tamora threw back the sheets and hopped out of her bed. She opened the large balcony window, and the cool night wind spilled into the room, sending the curtains and her thin white dress flying into the air. The brisk wind excited her. She desired nothing more at that moment than to jump out that window and become the wind itself. Since she couldn't, she went for the next best thing.

Tamora slipped the dress from her shoulders, and it cascaded down onto the floor. She pulled a trunk out from under the bed, and opened it revealing a pair of black leather boots and a black leather suit. She dressed quietly, careful not to make any noise. Afraid that the belt buckle might make too much noise if she tried to put it on, she placed it in a bag, along with a few more small items. She also pulled out a small segmented bow, hinged in the center and capable of being folded and hidden easily, and slid it into her left boot, the laces left loose near the top to accommodate it and did the same with a small wavy dagger and her right foot. The last things Tamora pulled were a small quiver of arrows and a coil of silk rope. The quiver would make too much noise if she put on now, so she placed it next to the bag.

The girl then tied the bag and the quiver to one end of the rope, and then made a wide loop at the other end. Gingerly, she picked all of it up and carried it to the balcony. There, after making sure no other windows were open, she waited to make sure none of the family guards were patrolling the below. One stubbornly remained not far from the window, though derelict in his duty. He presently had his leggings around his ankles and was relieving himself on one of the family's rose bushes. He was taking his sweet time about it too.

Feeling anxious and mischievous, Tamora pulled 3 darts out her bag. She tossed one 3 inches behind him, then ducked down. He looked around wildly, wetting his leggings in the process, pulled out his sword. The girl stifled a laugh as the man stood there with both his "large" sword and "small" sword waving in the breeze. When she was sure he wouldn't look up, she tossed the two remaining darts off to the left of him, a few seconds apart. The guard quickly pulled up his leggings, cursing at the wetness, along with a few colorful phrases about the goddess Tymora's sexual practices, and went off in search of the noise. Tamora giggled lightly to herself.

Gently, she lowered the bag and the quiver down the side of the house, then placed the loop around a post on the railing and climbed over. It was easy enough to slide down, and she took her time only to avoid burning her hands on the rope. Once Tamora reached the bottom, she jiggled the rope till it slipped of the rail and fell to the ground. Then, she gathered her belongings and slinked off into the night._
