The Tale Of Khara
-
the Beginning
The spring had come to Vaasa. Just the time when the ice on the great glacier starts to melt. In the North, the tension between the clan of Kor and the clan of Korinder had come to the point that the smallest of incidents could very likely ignite an open conflict between them both. It was in these times Khara, a daughter of Kor had found herself ripped away from her old life and thrown into a new one with brutal force.
It all started, when the bridges belonging to the Korinders were smashed into pieces by the strong currents of the spring river. Not able to get across to fertile soil, Kahr, the chief of Korinder gathered his closest men and travelled upstreams to the village where Thengel, chief of Kor had his residence and demanded that they should be allowed to use their bridges until they had built themself new ones. Thengel, happy to hear about his enemies misfortune laughed Kahr in his face and spitted on the ground. Hard words and threats were then delivered but not taken seriously. Finally, Kahr went back home with much anger and hatred in his heart.
Two nights later Thengels village were attacked by a large force led by Kahr himself. When the alarm bells sounded the defence had already been overrun and the houses nearest the gate was already set in flames. Thorgil, father of Khara and head of the guard, managed in the end to raise a small group of defenders But it was too late.
The civilians tried to run or beg for their lives but were beeing laughtered without exception. An hour later, only a small part of the village was still close to intact. Thengel and a small group of defenders still stood their ground. But it was a lost cause. Near dawn when the heat from the fires still reached up high in the sky, the last line of defence started to crack. And when finally Thengel took an arrow in his throat and went down, people abandoned their positions ran for their lives.Khara who had taken a spear in her chest found herself beeing dragged away from the battle. The last thing she saw before everything went black was her father, standing alone over the body of his dead chief, waiting for that last wave to come.
As the small group of survivors travelled east along the great glacier. Khara, weak of the loss of blood and now burning with fever, floated in and out of consciousness while the only thing her travel companions could do was to watch and pray.
After a week they changed course and went south. They followed the coast of Icelace Lake and was just starting to see the tops of Giantspire mountains when they met some merchants. During that conversation they learned there was a small town only a days ride to the east, Norwick. And since the condition of Khara had now become so critical that no one doubted she would die within days without proper care, Elias, a good friend of Khara's father agreed to take her there and care for her until she got better. They would then meet up with the rest of the group at the goal, the coast town Uthmere, by the Sea of Fallen Stars.
Along with hope, came a new fresh start
For this woman so young, still pure in heart
The friends and adventures, the knowledge to win
behold, here's where the tale of Khara begin
