Western Battlefields

  • It is rumored that lying in the larger, bloodier fields of battle, particularly amongst those orcs felled with deep axe cuts, are found the occasional carved stone. They are palm sized, with a symbol of the Uthgardt Tribe of the Great Worm on one side, and "Rika" carved in Trade Speech on the other. They are well made, obviously the work of a stone mason. They are often placed on the chest of a particularly worthy foe.

  • The ogres had attacked the Defender outpost in terrifying numbers. Waves of them, assisted by their magi pressed forward against the barricades. A dozen adventurers led by Thorin Goldenaxe stood side by side with the city’s Defenders to repel them. From atop the hill, the ballista that Lieutenant Grimm had requested tore into the advancing waves.

The battle was chaotic and vicious, but in the end, corpses of ogres lay piled upon one another. The bedraggled and bloodied defenders had held. It had been a great battle, perhaps worthy of song or at least, numerous rounds of ale and story.

At the site of the battle, a small stone was left. Like the others, it bore the symbol of the Uthgardt Tribe of the Great Worm. Rika had said a prayer as she held it, thanking Uthgar and the Dwarven gods for their strength and victory over both her tribe’s and the dwarves hated enemies. With reverence, she put it on the ground marking the site of the battle.

  • Labur on one of his many patrols to ensure Clanggedin's dreaded enemy the giants are in check picks up a stone and studies the remains of the battle. He chuckles slightly, "Oi defender elpin, n yas leavin a stone like a trophy." He chuckles again. "Coward bein mur likin it." He tosses the stone back on the ground and continues his patrol.

  • Near the Peltarch outpost in the Giant Spires, a battle raged. Rika rounded the corner, and bore witness to the onslaught of the giants and manticore against the Defenders.

The winged Manticore flung its spikes from its lofty perch on the hill, and a Defender screamed tumbling from the cliff, crashing into the grass below. One of the giants reached across the barricade and struck one of the defenders, knocking him backwards. His comrades’ aim was true however, and several bolts, magically enhanced struck the giant toppling to his knees.

That left the other five. Rika screamed and charged forward.

With the help of the Defenders’ crossbows and Rika’s axe, the giant at the slope of the hill was dispatched quickly. The others milled about confused. Despite the numbers, Rika’s lack of reason and full on fury saw her charging into their midst.

Several rocks were thrown, and Rika stumbled at their impact. But the giants fell one by one by the Uthgardt woman’s attacks until one remained. Rika, badly wounded, called upon Uthgar’s strength and it was received.

As the giant swung, Rika stepped aside. The final blow of her axe struck with such fury, that the giant was beheaded. The spray of blood coated the grassy hillside.

(OOC – Thanks to the odd placement of creatures by the NWN game engine, the battle pretty much happened as described. When the defender was slain by the Manticore’s bolts, the corpse transitioned to the ground below the cliff. One or more Defenders were wounded, and bore witness to Rika avenging their comrade’s death. The stone marker was there IG when I left it)
