A legacy of betrayal

Amywyn crouched down low her breast almost rubbing against the rough rock as she scampered low across it. She knew if she stopped now she would not live another day, there was no going back for her ever now that everyone knew her legacy. Quietly she creep-ed to the edge of the ridge and cautiously leaned out, gazing down on the small gathering hunting party of wild elves pursuing her. Somehow she must get her clothes back, any clothes, and some weapons which without she knew she would not survive long.

Cautiously she leaned out from the ridge and climbed into a tall pine near the edge then shimmied quietly down just above the ground level. She could almost make out what they were saying, but she didn't really need to know, she already knew.. they were here to kill the betrayer descendents, they were going to kill her. Shortly the group broke up except for one young elf who stayed behind perhaps to guard their back or perhaps because they no longer felt they could trust him as well. Slowly she moved into position above the young elf, a handsome man little older then herself. She studied the man as she readied herself and once in position dropped herself from her perch and onto his back. His surprise was complete, his mind perhaps where it should not be in such a situation she thought, and though he struggled to loosen her from his back it was in vain. One hand over his mouth, the other around his forehead and her powerful legs wrapped around his torso; she locked her legs and pulled her arms in opposite directions and just like that the handsome young man was dead; no more then an hour ago she had made love for the first time ever with him…

    A year before:

Amywyn had learned one thing in life thus far for certain; she was a Galipe and to be a Galipe was a death sentence. She had seen her father ripped apart by a crowd of elven when she was only 30 years old once knowledge of who he was became known. She only survived to this day because her mothers skill and determination. They had spent the bulk of her youth constantly on the move, hiding from retribution for not her fathers crimes but her grandfathers. Her mother had died 10 years before, still running, still protecting her young daughter from the bow of the hunters. She had spent the last 10 years since then on the run, always moving never settling for more then a few weeks. Yet near Silvery Moon she had found a respite, a time for her to finally feel safe; to finally come to realize she was now a woman.

She had found the small tribe of wild elves in the deepest and darkest woods she had ever seen let alone ventured into. At first they were cautious, aggressive, but perhaps it was her harried look or maybe the desperation in her eyes but they took her in and mended her wounds. She had lived among them for most of a year when she decided perhaps her worship of Fenmarel may have been misplace. Young and naive despite her life expierences she hoped for a better life. Worst of all she found she was drawn to a young man. Neravan, she thought and was not alone in it, was the most handsome and most skilled hunter of all the young men of the tribe. It was only logical that she found him desirable, all the young women of the tribe did. What was strange was that he would also be drawn to her.

Amywyn had never thought of herself as beautiful, far from it in fact her self image was a reflection of her history. So it came as a great surprise to her when Neravan started paying an unmistakable attention to her. Soon they were spending days on end together, hunting, talking, sleeping close to each other beneath the stars yet never speaking aloud of their love. Until the day of her grandfathers betrayal. Each year she had gone off alone, with her mother when she was younger, and alone the last 10 years to think back on what had happened over 700 years ago. It was on that day that Neravan found her alone in the woods, alone with her rage and tears. It was there he had taken her in his arms and kissed away the tears, held her close as she vented her rage against his powerful chest; and in the end they merged as one.. they're motions witnessed by non bar the woods and the gods themselves. She cried in his arms afterward, for the first time since her mothers death. Later she would come to believe it was her arrogance in believing she deserved happiness that led Solonor's hawkeye's to her that night.

They returned to the tribe just as the moon crested in the sky. There was a great noise coming from the camp, shouts of anger and accusal broke the serenity of their newly proclaimed love. Slowly they creep-ed to the edge of the village to try and see what could cause such anger amongst the people; it was then that she saw the hawkeye's and begin to shake uncontrollably. Neravan tried to get her to return with him, but Amywyn knew she could not.. to be even seen by Solonor's servants would be a death sentence for her life had taught her that at least. She tried to tell him then, tried to explain what had happened but the words would not come; she to believed the crime was hers as well, yet she did want to live.. wanted to feel at least once more Neravan move above her as they joined in love.

Neravan went back to the camp alone while Amywyn watched from the woods, completely still, almost un-breathing. From her solitude she heard them, heard the accusations as Neravan returned, where was she? why was he protecting her? Neravan was bold at first and spoke with the arrogance of youth in his voice; they could not make him renounce his love for her.. and then they told him all. They told him of how her grandfather, a captain in ancient Myth Drannor, had betrayed his people. They told him how it was his key that opened the lower gates, how only he of all his watch escaped and of how he had finally confessed when left with no other option to him.. how he had tried to bargain his son and his wife, anything for his own survival. They then told him of the justice demanded by Solonor, the most avowed of the fallen ones enemy, the sentence he passed on the betrayer and on his family.

Amywyn's heart ached as she listened and watched.. she could see as it happened, see as Neravan turned from her; when his love became instead revulsion with her and himself for having touched her. She wept that time there and then for the second time..it was not long before pursuit began under Neravan's guidance.

    Now:

No stranger to pursuit was Amywyn, and before Neravan could reveal her hiding spot she was gone from it. Amywyn had hid from the Hawkeye's all her life, and quickly ran to the river where she tossed her clothes high into a tree then swam across the river and climbed up the rocky ridge beyond. From her hiding place above she could see the Hawkeyes and hunters of the tribe turn their anger on Neravan when they found her clothes, and then they left him behind..

Quickly she stiped his leathers from him and took his long blade, bow and quiver then headed back toward the river, angry with herself for her arrogance; never again could she turn her back on Fenmarel's teaching she told herself. Once at the river she pushed a log into the water and quietly laid across it as tightly as she could, in the dark she was all but indistinguishable from it. She rode the log downriver until she was a few miles from Silvery Moon again, there she left the river and headed west away from the elven city. Several days later she found a human caravan, no elves amongst them.. it's destination was Narfell..
