A Hins Tale about Julius Swample AKA Cap'N Jules

  • A Hins Tale about Captain Julius Swample the Second.

Julius grew up in a sea fairing Hin clan, in fact he was born on his fathers’ ship. The Happy Swordfish, a mighty War brig. His mother to was of a sailing folk, and so it was truly like a fish to water that he took to sailing. He could tie rope before he could run and could swim well before he could crawl.
All in all he was a naturally gifted sailor and glad of it. As the years past they beheld the hin grow from a young sailor to a slightly older sea captain of a small coastal cutter, the Oceans Star, and for three years all was well. (he sailed mostly around the sword Coast region, so these years where no land lubbers picnic).
Things however started to go to pieces when his Half brother Rex Swample came aboard. (His father was an infamous womaniser). He and Jules (as he was more commonly know) got along very well and shared many (but sadly not all) world views and judgements upon the fine things in life. One of these fine things just so happened to be Jules On again off again girl and first mate (bad idea, I know, but Jules couldn’t see it) Marina. She was a fine example of hin womanhood with raven black hair and eyes of emerald green. Jules in his own self centred way cared for her, which was unfortunate, because his slightly younger brother Rex was in love.
Now you say this might not be that bad, and you might not be wrong but for one thing, Marina fell in love with Rex in return. (Poor Jules he really didn’t see this coming). So it was after much talking behind Jules rather busy back (there’s a lot to do been a Captain of a small merchant vessel that sometimes happens to indulge in a little piracy from time to time), that a plan was made to Mutiny and take the ship. Poor Jules didn’t suspect this from friends and family, and neither did they, to be honest, but both Rex and Marina knew he would never stand down willingly.
What about the other sailors you say? Well fist of, Coastal cutters are not the biggest ships on the sea (they are only just on the sea after all) and only need a crew of twelve to sail. This combined with the fact that Jules had managed to drink an entire keg of fine dwarven ale he happened across with out the crew finding out till he tried to throw the empty vessel over the side did not help matters. In fact that nearly caused a mutiny then and there.
So it was with but a little talk that Rex and Marina (now well into the swing of things and setting them selves up as the role of underappreciated bastard and neglected love, respectively) got the others to help them.
And so it came to pass that after two weeks at sea on a make shift raft and with a very sore head ( they knocked him out when he was dead drunk and set him adrift with a few days rations and some fishing gear) that Jules washed up in Peltarch. Now Jules took to Peltarch about as well as a Savage orc does to soap. So it was with much haste and an earful of abuse (thanks to one unnamed, but not unknown elven noble woman, of magical persausion) that he moved to the Gypsy camp.
And so his quest for more wine, woman and song continues in the lovely land of Narfell.
Add in a healthy desire for revenge and the sort of mischief only a hin can bring to the situation and you have things as they stand for Jules right now.

    Yarhh!!!
