Lune of Silverymoon

  • Character: Lune of Silverymoon
    Player: Akhet

    –----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Born as the third child to a fairly successful trader in luxuries, Lune grew up the odd one out - in a family of brawny, brown-haired and brown-eyed people, she was petite with silver hair and blue-grey eyes, almost fey, even though no one knew of any elves perching in the family tree.

The older of her two brothers would one day inherit the family trading interests and was already being groomed for the position, the younger had shown a talent for the arcane early on and had a promising career at the college of magic ahead of him. Lune herself exhibited no specific talents - while she was a bright and curious child, she had a tendency to flit from interesting thing to shiny thing to another fancy, a free spirit and dreamer, with a particular fascination with unicorns, claiming that she saw them in dreams, and they were shiny and pretty and friendly. Naturally, this exasperated her parents - she was obviously of no use to the family business, there was no indication of particular talents that would open up a career for her, and if she had a religious vocation, it certainly wasn't for a respectable deity, like Waukeen or even the gods of magic. Better to not go there at all before she became an embarassment to the family ... still, they didn't know what to do with her.

Until her fifteenth birthday, at least - grown into a fairly attractive teenager, her father received an offer for her hand, and accepted gratefully, since it would solve several problems at once - the girl would be out of the house and someone else's responsibility, and the husband-to-be had several contacts that would beneficial to him.

Lune didn't take the news, delivered on that birthday, too well, however, and left home that very night, following on another dream of a unicorn - this one was still friendly and pretty and shiny, but it also was in a location she recognized by the silhouette of her city above the trees. Taking it for a sign, she headed there - she had no idea where to go anyway, except 'away' from the man she would describe as 'a vile, slimy humanoid toad' and the faithless father who had sold her to him.

Perhaps it was a sign - she didn't find any unicorns, but she did find a wandering priest of Lurue resting there for the night. After an awkward initial meeting ("Aw, you're not a unicorn!" - "I may be horny sometimes, but no, I'm not."), he managed to get the story out of her, and offered to let her accompany him, to her relief, for the thought of being alone on the road was not one she cherished.

In the following days and weeks and months, she came to trust and like the older man, and took an interest in his religion, to the point of eventually formally entering the priesthood herself at a great midsummer meet the following year, much to his amusement and joy. They travelled on together for a while, but eventually the time came for Lune, now an ordained priestess, to find and follow her own path.

This she did, again following dreams - occasionally she would get the unicorn dream again, with recognizable locations more or less near, eventually leading her to a little frontier town called Norwick, almost exactly three years after she left her home ...
