_Early one day, supposedly after Lyte's return, Dietrick make preparation for an invasion in the valley. More guards are stationed at the main gates, with more scouts positioned on the hills overlooking the gates, with other scouts also being positioned ahead in the farmland hills between jiyyd and the valley. The dragoons are instructed to prepare for an attack stimulated "as if jiyyd would fall".
Asides from standard fortification procedures, Dietrick spends much more time training the men himself, spending alternate mornings to drill along with them as well as lead physical training exercises._
