There are no resurrections or raise deads (commonly referred to as a Rez) given by DMs for AFK, bugs, lag, transition problems, or any mistakes made to threaten the safety of your PC.
DMs may offer a free resurrection or an alternative cost to a resurrection from deaths that occur during a DM driven event but this should not be expected and could result in a cost greater than traditional resurrections depending on the circumstance.
Occasionally, DMs will issue a free resurrection if they made a mistake it resulted in the death of a PC. For example, your PC was sitting in town and the DM accidentally created a high level spawn.
A character reduced to 0 hit points will be disabled and incapable of any action until healed to 1 hit point or greater. The player is in no immediate danger of bleeding, and will recover in 2d6-1 rounds. The greatest threat is hostile NPCs near the player, that may decide to 'finish' the job.
Characters knocked to 0 or less will have a loot bag made that carries their heal kits, if any. This is so that their allies can use those heal kits to save them if they don’t have other means of doing so at their disposal. If the character dies all of their items are placed in that same loot bag.
Characters at 0 hitpoints are rendered unconscious. When dropped to -1 hp or less a character is considered to be ‘bleeding out’ and will lose 1 hit point every 4 rounds.
If the player is healed to 1 hit point or greater, the bleeding will immediately stop.
Players that are bleeding will make a shout for help every 4 rounds that nearby players may hear (listen check).
As a precaution against exploitation, and player that logs off the server while bleeding, will be marked as dead when they log back in.
At -20 your character dies. There is a small chance that their god will step in and bring them back to life, ‘divine intervention’ or "DI" but ordinarily you will be transported to the fugue plane and their corpse will appear where they died. Their companions can carry the corpse and gather their things. Dead characters will drop all their gold and any small diamonds they were carrying so that their companions can use it to pay for or cast a raise dead.
Characters have a 5% + .25% per hit dice chance of being saved by their god, if they have one. Note that this means if your PC's Deity is blank, you have no chance of being raised by your god.
After 12 seconds of being dead the PC sent to an area called Fugue, a sort of waiting place for lost souls. The fugue is an In Character area. It’s entirely up to you if you want your character to remember the fugue or the circumstances leading up to their death.
At the location of the players death a corpse is left for living characters to interact with. Alongside this corpse will be all the possessions of the player in a bag.
*If characters try to trade a corpse it will respawn at the place of death. Instead, have one character drop the corpse on the ground and the second pick it up from there. * If the player logs out the corpse will respawn at the place of death when they log back in. * If the player logs out then doesn't log in until after a reset a DM will be required to create a new corpse.
Death is not permanent. There are multiple ways for a player to be raised from the dead, some better than others.
A cleric of 9th level or higher may cast “Raise Dead” or “Resurrection” on the corpse. Casting either spell requires a material component. The death penalty is 10% of their total 3rd edition XP.
Party members can take the character’s corpse to the appropriate NPCs in major temples and pay a fee to have the character raised. Mechanically, whoever has the corpse in their inventory should right click ’use’ it on the NPC. Alignment restrictions may apply. The death penalty is 10% of their total 3rd edition XP.
If a True Resurrection is required, a large payment can be made to bring the character back to life with no XP loss. Usually only high level characters can justify this expense. From in game, you can type !tr
into the chat to find the cost of a True Resurrection.
An NPC called Cassius can be found in the fugue. He will respawn your character in Norwick at a cost of 20% of their total 3rd edition xp.
Logging out to avoid death is against the rules of Narfell and subject to severe punishment. It’s also been coded against; someone who attempts to do this will find their character in the fugue when they log back in.
When you don’t have time to wait for a Raise As soon as your PC is logged out their corpse will vanish whether on ground or in someone's inventory. When you log in again it will spawn where you died. If there has been a reset before you next log in the corpse will disappear. To have Raise Dead cast on it will therefore require DM assistance.
