_As the captain enters the room, the adept rises from the altar, on which, Bruso's unconscious body is strewn. He approaches the captain and says, “Well it was a lengthy procedure and I wouldn’t say without difficulty…”

Before going further the captain interrupts, “I don’t need specifics. Did it work?”

    “Yes"

    “And his memories?”

    “All replaced.”

“What happens while it is active?”

“He will remember what he does but we’ve put safety enchantments in place to push those memories into a deep place. One which he will never recover them from while inactive. Even those that do arise, will do so as a blurred vision, like you would recall only vaguely from a dream. It will be improbable that he will make connections between or even any sense from them.”_

…Bruso awoke and thought to himself, “What an odd dream”

In fact, he’d been having these strange dreams very frequently, since he started working for the Brim and Brothers’ Adventuring Company. Perhaps it was the change in lifestyle. Before he had been very stationary in his life, not moving far from his family home. There’d always been reasons to tie him there. His parents were amiable. And when they grew to an old age, Bruso stayed to care for them, as they did for him in his youth. And after their passing, it was his wife and child.

But life is change, and so did his life change. One long cold winter, they were stretched for food. And travel to the nearest city spelled death in a variety of ways. They made the choice to risk the known cause: starvation.

Weeks past, they grew weaker. Bruso’s child passed. His wife, stricken with grief, did not live much longer. And, almost by unfortunate coincidence, the cold lifted shortly after her passing. Bruso could stay there no longer. What was once a place filled with fond memories, no longer was. He set off to the nearest town looking for work. And it was there that he landed the position of a cartographer with the Brim and Brothers’ Adventuring Company.

His first assignment was to explore the lands of Narfell. With the small stipend of 500 gold pieces award to him by the Adventuring Company, he hired two mercenaries to protect him on his travels to Peltarch. Although, upon his arrival, they disappeared before he could render them payment. He decided he would keep their wages on him for their return, and spend the rest of his stipend on a decent bow. Hopefully, he thought, a bow of finer quality will make up for my lack of skill.
