New Whispers at the Fire

  • _It is said that shortly after the fiery dragon crash-landed, there were some strange sightings. A couple of penguins, one which seemed about five times the size of the other, a were-cat, two huge green hands clapping right out of the gate, that instead of sounding like clapping hands, sounded more like two boars head-butting each other…

Whoever spread those rumours must have surely been drunk..._

  • _As if the beetles weren't enough, rumour now has it that a group of drunken, belligerent bugbears decided to try their luck with an attack on Norwick. The loud warparty was spotted by a Norwick scout however, and the attack so successfully repelled that even the gates survived…

A different, perhaps merely speculative rumour may mention sightings of a swirling, brightly lit dragon-shape in the sky at night, descending on the south gate. No casualties are reported, however, nor is there any signs of dragonfire around. Weird..._

  • A massive two-prong attack on Norwick and the Silver Valley was launched by the goblin-beetle masses, seeing numerous guards lives lost in both settlements. A sizeable group of hard-pressed adventurers worked tirelessly to repel the crawling masses of invaders, eventually pushing them back into the woods or smashing them onto the blood-soaked ground. Danger over, but for how long?

  • An attack by huge bugs and goblins at South Gate was foiled by the Norwick Militia guards with the help of adventurers Nica, Silver, and Shesarai. While the guards continued to hold the gate, the adventurers rushed off to Silver Valley after hearing sounds of explosions there. They returned somewhat later with sad tales of more suffering in the hin community.

The adventurers rushed off to the south when sounds of explosions came from the Witch's Tower near the lake. Much later, a small group came trudging back, covered in blood and mud. They included the mages Maria and Salin, in addition to Nica and Shesarai. Unfortunately, the group were bearing the bodies of two fallen Legionaires: General Theaon Thorn and Private Silver Chalice. They were restored to life at the Temple of Chantea, but told a tale of extremely bitter fighting near the Goblin Hold against several dozen huge beetles and even more goblins. Despite their losses, the group claimed that the bugs and goblins got the worst of it, and they hoped that their sacrifice would spare Silver Valley from more attacks, at least for now.

  • While the slippery Wolf's unorthodox and unquestionably foolhardy methods may have granted new insight into the current goblin situation, they've also earned him a few days 'vacation'. Last seen carried unconscious into the Temple of Chauntea after days of near continuous fighting in defense of the Valley, Norwick and on the offensive in the south, the aging ranger takes the down time in stride spending an extra day within the Temple for observation before finally emerging to carry on about his business.

Meanwhile, with certain rumors floating about, the more easily riled and impressionable citizens may contemplate the tough decision between pitchfork or torch.

    @a0e505e534=Araighn:

Grobble can later be seen getting launched out of the Dwarven Hold

    "Har! Beat me own record!"

picks himself up and dusts himself off

I think that you are almost true! It depends on where you measure from … where my head lands or where my other body parts land. But POWERFUL that throw was!

mutters to himself Ugh …. moderate amount of pain do I feel.

  • Grobble can later be seen getting launched out of the Dwarven Hold

    "Har! Beat me own record!"

  • Legion

Folks with keen senses may have spotted Grobble hissing at the hin as they came into town. He scampers off to the Dwarven hold and is not seen in town again.

  • Legion

General Theaon, with a small Legion escort, bringing halfling refugees into Norwick.

  • General Theaon can be seen spending much of the last tenday around Norwick and the Silver Valley. While in Norwick he is usually seen at the Valley refugee camp at the Fairgrounds, talking to the hins and trying to keep their spirits up. He spent a lot of time talking with a young hin woman named Amelia who seemed determined to want to do something to help.

  • Word has it that the gruesome goblins and their beetles of doom have a new target, having attacked the Silver Valley twice in a row. As distraught refugees seek their way into Norwick, another, stranger rumour spreads. Rasuil, the watchful ranger, is one of ~them~… actually seen shifting into vicious fire beetle form! Burn the witch, burn him! Uh... wait, fire beetle...

  • With the outer gates still ravaged from the last press of suicide beetles, Rasuil warns the guards to be on alert, claiming goblins have once again been herding bugs outside their Hold, undoubtedly in preparation for another attack against the town.

  • A group of four, including Rasuil, return to the gates after a lengthy raid on the Goblin Hold. Apparantly no more mystical cauldrons were found, much to the ranger's disappointment…

  • Following another gate attack by goblins riding huge beetles, a group of adventurers formed at South Gate to deal with the threat. General Theoan of the Troff Legion led them, together with Alvaniel from that same organization. They were joined by the ranger Rasuil, Peltarch scouts Vick and Shesarai, and the mage Artemis.

The group made its way to the Goblin Borderlands west of the lake where they encountered dozens of huge beetles and their goblin handlers. After clearing the fields, they preceded into the Fuzzy Den, which had been taken over by the goblin beetle breeders. There the party fought many dozens of goblin archers and some shamen, before discovering a large cauldron in which potions were being made from bulls strength and death armors to buff up the beetles. The group destroyed the cauldron.

Many more dozens of beetles, including four huge specimens were found in the side rooms. Some of the beetles bore powder kegs, one of which exploded knocking out Artemis. Nevertheless, the party prevailed and Artemis was revived by Theaon. The team then returned to South Gate with a heavily singed and bandaged mage and a very wobbly Rasuil, who ingested some of the cauldron potion before it was destroyed. Hopefully, this has put an end to the goblin-beetle attacks, at least for now.

  • Halfway between the south gate and the Silver Valley, several goblin hides can be seen hung from trees. Several dead wolves can be seen lying below the gently waving skins

  • The Norwick red-cloaks would find a baf of potions dropped infront of their garrison with a note folded and addressed to Davos the only red cloak I kind of like

Within the note said the following.

_Hey Davos I found a large goblin hideout and two barrels of potions inside, they are in the bag if you hadn't looked, several death Armour and bull strength. I figured with the earlier confrontation you might want to know that they were in the den to the west full of goblins and several breeding bays for Beatles and what appeared to be shamans working at a cauldron.

At worst I have delayed their progress so you can put up a new gate or something as I have locked and jammed the doors holding their Beatles so hopefully they will all die or eat each other before the goblins can hope to get in. I advise you put together a little group to take care of the problem as I am not nearly skilled enough to take out everything guarding and inside the cave._

At the bottom of the not is a small map with the locations of goblins outside the den, and the platoon of archers and place of chanting shamans mid room as well as room labels with what type of beetle is inside the now locked and sealed doors.

    Signed
    ~Hen~

A copy of this note has been posted near the fire at the south gates warning would be travelers and miners to avoid the west forest.

  • Several people in the Grapevine witnessed a verbal confrontation between the dwarf paladin Silver and a mysterious stranger in a black cloak who had only been observed sitting by the fire reading. Silver accused the man of selling potions to goblins who were using them to make large beetles powerful and ferocious. The dwarf claimed he had the goods, including the barrel the stranger wheeled to South Gate. The stranger loudly proclaimed his innocence, but Silver told him if he didn't admit it now, he could tell it to the guards later.

Somewhat later, Shesarai told Davos Redcloak about this stranger and turned over three death armor potions found in the barrel that the man was seen wheeling to South Gate. She also said that she and Silver had killed a number of goblins and a large slicer beetle west of the Lake. The goblins were led by the same chieftain they encountered a few days earlier in the Wooded Pass west of Norwick. The chief ran away again after his minions and beetle handlers were killed. She added that the goblins herding the beetle wore the same tribal markings as those found on the borderlands of the Rawlingswood between the lake and the Hold.

  • _*When a well known forest witch learns of the goblins moving to the outer areas of the Rawlins, she finds that she has no immediate plans and decides to go cause some mischief in the goblin lands.

She probably didn't know if those goblins were the ones behind the attacks, or if her actions would do any good - and to be fair, it's not like she would stop to consider it, or would even care.

At least it seemed like she was having a good time as a merry tune echoed through the emptying halls of the Goblin Hold._

    @6e3deb4cdb:

Look into my eyes, try to see into my brain
a twisted little journey through the path of insane
a vivid wild explosion manifesting and protesting
all the petty little trifles taught by boring people condescending!

I'm digressing, I'm a complicated girl with very simple wishes,
a single spell that sends your people sleeping with the fishes
and when your settlement comes to desolation
one small step and I bring total extermination.

I'm not normal and I don't pretend so!
my approach is pretty much a boom crescendo.
Reality is false and it's so cause I say,
chaotic dereliction well that's just my forte.

Mischief is a fun way to pass the time though,
several little goblins scream in staccato.
The tale of my reign will live on in harmony
singing as they die in a dead gob's symphony

  • Reports of very large and strange beetles, and their goblin breeders and handlers, have come in. The ranger Shesarai spotted them near the Misty Pond and recruited General Theaon and Private Silver of the Troff Legion. According to a message given to the Norwick Militia, the three of them fought some really powerful beetles and over a dozen goblin handlers. They also came upon some powerful goblins, including archers, a shaman, and a chieftain in the Wooded Pass west of Norwick. All were killed except the chieftain, who fled to the north and laid a number of fire traps in the wooded path to cover his retreat. The Legionaires removed all those they found using the dwarven method since they didn't have a trapper with them.

  • Certain rangers of the south who seem to give little to no regard to the natural way of things would keep out of the occasional business of one ranger or demon or violent entity or another, based on pure principal.
